What is a Federal Grant? A grant is a monetary award given by a Federal Agency to a nonprofit organization, business, or government entity. How much grant money is available through the Federal Government? There is approximately $1 trillion dollars available annually for Federal grants. Probably the largest amount – over $700 billion – goes to state and local governments.

What is the Grant Lifecycle? The Federal grant lifecycle process typically has three phases: Pre-award phase: announcement of funding opportunity; receipt of applications; and review of applications Award phase: award decisions and notifications Post-award: implementation of grant, reporting, and closeout
