How Do I develop a Winning Grant Proposal? Step 4: Develop a strategic plan to create a winning grant proposal • Identify specific programs and deadlines • Identify key Federal people to contact • Visit the Federal Agency to meet with the key people to learn more about the program • Follow up with a brief White Paper describing what you intend to do and request a critique • Based on the critique, determine whether your idea for a grant proposal is likely to be effective

How Do I develop a Winning Grant Proposal? Step 5: Develop the grant proposal • Create a calendar of milestones, deliverables and key dates from conceptualization to delivery of the grant proposal that adheres to the Agency grants guidelines • If you have not done so, register in Grants.Gov. Most submissions are electronic through this web site. • Put together a detailed outline of the entire application: forms, proposal, appendices, etc. • Identify your proposal team and allocate responsibilities. There needs to be a Proposal Manager who is responsible for this entire effort. • Hold a kick-off meeting to discuss all aspects of the grant proposal, especially the content. • Get started and adhere to your calendar!
