Fall always brings SHOP HOP! We are excited to announce our 16th Annual Desert Quilt Shop Hop coming this November. We will again be sharing the road with our friends in St. George, Utah and adding a new shop to the route. There will be three shops for you to enjoy here in Las Vegas - Quiltique, Christmas Goose and Sew Yeah; three in St. George – Quilted Works, Scrap Apple and Hurst. Plus let’s not forget your stop in Mesquite, NV for a lovely visit to Simply Quilts. St. George is about 120 miles from Las Vegas, making it an easy day trip for you and your quilting friends. Visit all 7 stores and turn in your completed passports to be entered to win one of 15 prizes including: a Koala Cub Plus Sewing Cabinet, 1 of 7 gift baskets full of quilt and sewing goodies, or a $100 gift card from 1 of the 7 shops! Block of the Month LUMINA FEATHERED STAR Block of the Month 96” x 96”
Judy Niemeyer’s Lumina quilt has been re-colored with her Seasonal Portraits fabric collection and shines and sparkles in blue and yellow. Foundation paper piecing is used to assemble the units, then traditional piecing and curved piecing techniques finish the assembly. During this 6-month Block of the Month program, you will receive the pattern, all paper piecing papers, and all fabrics needed to make the Lumina quilt top, including binding. There is a $20 non-refundable registration fee, then $80 per month for 6 months with the class or $65 per month without classes. Shipping is available. Monthly classes with Cathy Lamont are scheduled for the second Monday of each month from 10am – 1pm beginning September 12th.

Block of the Month 86” x 103” This stunning quilt from Jason Yenter of In the Beginning Fabrics is just as its name implies… a dream! Available in either beautiful blues or a striking purple and teal option, it is going to be a tough decision. With many different piecing techniques such as applique and paper piecing, this quilt will keep you interested and challenged all along the way. If you feel it may be too much of a challenge we are offering classes to walk you through each step of the way. Although this quilt is not a true block of the month quilt, we have broken it up into a 6-month program to fit it into your schedule and budget. Twenty-five yards of fabric are included in the monthly cost as well as the pattern and binding. There is a $20 non-refundable registration fee, then $60 per month without classes or $75 per month with classes. Shipping is available. About Carmen …
Carmen was raised in a big family of 17 kids - “ten sisters” and 7 boys. From an early age she was taught to quilt by her mother and sisters. She has had a children’s clothing business in Seattle, was a freelance educator for Viking and Pfaff for 15 years, and is an award-winning longarm quilter. She has taught at many quilt shows around the country. She was named HMQS Teacher of the Year 2013. Something she often says in class is, “If it looks HARD, but is actually really EASY then that is my style!” Her classes focus on quilting techniques, skill building and confidence building. She loves the traditional quilt patterns of days past, but loves new, easy techniques to make the process fun, faster, and successful. These classes are open to any BERNINA Sewing Machine owner. Registration is necessary as class size is limited. Cancellation calls are appreciated as this allows another student to fill that space.
