Like many modern quilters, Angela started out as a traditionalist, but as her career as a machine quilter grew, so did her love of modern quilts in all their forms. Happy New Year!! Don’t you love a brand new start? This is Quiltique’s 30th issue of The Stash and with the New Year we thought it was time for a new look as well. What do you think? I hope you like its clean look and streamlined layout. A big shout out to our former Quiltique team member, Andrea, who made it all come together so nicely! Whether you have not been in the shop lately or you are here regularly, I am sure you are going to find something new and exciting this spring to sew. As usual we have an extensive new class lineup; lots of special events or maybe you choose to join one of our National Teachers, like Angela Walters, for some dynamic machine quilting lessons; any way you choose, you are sure to have a blast! I would also like to personally invite you to join us for a very special day in March as we Walk for Wishes to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. I encourage you to join our “Stitches for Wishes” team so we can show Las Vegas that we makers can make a difference, not just with our sewing but with our legs and hearts, too. Many of the Quiltique staff and teachers will be walking that day at Town Square and we really want you guys to join us. Lots of fun will be in-store that day, also, to celebrate our walk and our accomplishment. Make sure to get the details on page 3. A few new clubs and block-of-the-month quilts are on the horizon as well, and are sure to tickle your sewing fancy. Would you believe that Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts will be here to kick off her “Quilter’s Patch” BOM with us? Well you aren’t dreaming! A special day not to be missed! Saturday, March 11th Town Square Las Vegas – 8AM This spring, Quiltique is teaming up with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to do some good for children in our community! Our team "Stitches for Wishes" needs your help to bring a few smiles and hope to children facing the unthinkable. We have signed up to walk and fundraise for this year’s event because wishes have the power to give children hope, strength and joy when they need it most. We as "makers" know what it means to do good for others with our hands and how showing that you care means so much to those that are suffering. Now we need not your hands, but your legs to show others how much we care. Please join our family and staff as we walk together for an easy one mile walk at Town Square Las Vegas. She will also explain her method of embroidery appliqué and how she uses the Silhouette Cameo to cut all the pieces out for her projects faster and more accurately than with scissors. Quilting intricate designs can be as easy as connecting the dots! Learn how to use points on the quilt as a guide for your quilting with minimal marking and lots of fun. You will learn how to recognize the “dots” on your quilt, different designs and how you can adapt them for you. Panera box lunch is available for $13.

Deciding on quilting designs for your quilt borders and backgrounds doesn’t need to be stressful or overwhelming. This informative class will show you several different designs to use in your background and borders. Angela will also show you easy ways to tackle those borders and how to tweak the designs to create different effects. From wavy lines that create interesting texture, to interesting feather fillers, you will leave with plenty of ideas. Bring your questions and a go-for-it attitude! Join Vanessa to have some fun with the alphabet! In class we will create a “WORD” with her Elemenopea machine embroidery alphabet designs for “My Big Bag”, by Kenzie Mac. Use the word “SEW” that is already combined in the pattern or choose your own 3 or 4 big, bold letters from her CD. Vanessa will start the class by demonstrating how to use a Silhouette Cameo machine to cut the fabric appliqué pieces out for your chosen word (or any appliqué shapes) faster and more accurately than with scissors. After the pieces are cut, she will show you how to set up your chosen “WORD” and get your machine stitching on the embroidery appliqué letters. Come prepared to play with color and have fun. FREE-MOTION MACHINE QUILTING
Piecemaking Basics, Intro to Machine Quilting and Bindings are NECESSARY for learning basic quilting skills and it is recommended that you take them, in order, before continuing to any other quilting class. Welcome to the Quilter’s Patch where you grow your quilt garden block by block! Join us and designer Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts as we help you plan and grow a beautiful quilt garden. With each step, you will grow, refresh your quilting skills and become more precise. Edyta hopes you will challenge yourself by trying something you have not done before and enjoy learning new techniques such as machine appliqué, English Paper Piecing, Y-seams, Flying Geese, 60-degree triangles, templates, curved piecing, Dresden Plates and more! If you are new to many of these quilt techniques, we have an optional class with Vicky so that you don’t have to go at it alone. Classes will be the 1st Saturday of every month starting in May. There are also helpful but optional tools to make things easier for you. Acrylic templates, laser cut shapes for appliqué, matching Aurifil thread and triangle paper are all available if you desire.
