Letter from the Editor Ready…set…here we go…AGAIN! It is Back to School time and that has a lot of different meanings for us and I am sure for all of you as well. For one, my oldest child is starting high school this year. EEEEEEEK! I was hoping summer would not just fly by like it always does, but sure enough it’s almost September. For us here at the shop, the fall season means hustle and bustle, which is just the way we like it! We have a schedule packed with fun and educational events, new projects and many new adventures in stitching. Fall also means Quilt Market in Houston, Texas which always brings inspiration for the following year (which by the way, we start planning right when we have finished this newsletter). Summer was not a total blur. Kara, Paige, Glenda and I got to visit Chicago for BERNINA University 2018 and celebrate their 125th Anniversary. It was a great time as always. We are so excited about what BERNINA has planned this Fall and into 2019 for all of you. I hope you have been following along with them on their blog and social media accounts to keep up on all the excitement, giveaways, freebies and flashbacks they have been sharing with us. It has been really awesome! There are just so many great things coming up that I don’t want you to miss, even though it can be a busy season for many of you. You are supposed to sew something with them. A quilt, bag, wall hanging, table runner, tree skirt, rug and more! The versatile pre-cut is a favorite of beginning to advanced quilters to collect and admire but this day was born to get you sewing those lovelies! Join us for a fun all day sew in our classroom as we make all things strippy. Do you have an unfinished strip project, a new quilt you have been meaning to sew up, or maybe you have a pretty roll that you just cant seem to figure out what to do with? Then, this day is for you! We will have plenty of patterns on hand for you to choose from to get you started and, of course, if you just don’t have enough…Jelly Rolls too! b yA n n i e We are joining forces with the ever-popular pattern designer, byAnnie, to bring you a monthly class series based on the theme, Let’s Get Organized! Not only will you have useful projects to organize your home, work space and car but you’ll learn useful skills and techniques to increase your sewing skill repertoire. Chris Meeks will lead you on a bag sewing journey and teach you how to make your own bias binding, quilt your own fabrics, create and sew zippers of any length by adding zipper pulls to zipper tape, cover strapping with fabric to coordinate with your projects, sew with vinyl, make mesh pockets, and so much more! Classes are usually scheduled for the fourth Thursday of each month beginning in September. You may sign up for the classes individually as listed on page 14 or the entire 12-month series and save over $150. Those that choose the series sign-up will receive the monthly pattern included and 20% off all supplies listed on the supply list for class each month. Total class fee for the 12-month series is $299 (regular price with patterns is valued at over $450) due at sign up. We will have a trunk show in the shop so that you can see all these wonderful projects made up in beautiful assortments of fabrics. This fun and productive ombre dyeing class involves no bending and dipping! After learning the basics of the method, we will explore both value gradations (light shades into deep shades) and then color gradations (for example, yellow into blue) on 18” x 44” half yard cuts of fabric. A L L N E W w e s ta l e E C L A S S & D E M O D AY - N o v e m b e r 3 r d QUILT AS YOU GO WITH WESTALEE Kick Off Class and Series – 10am – 1pm
This seven-part series is designed to get you comfortable with rulers and how to design your own quilting blocks. Mary Hyatt will kick off this series giving you all the proper and necessary information for rulerwork success. You will gradually improve and practice rulerwork quilting skills in small parts, eventually creating your own 60” x 72” quilted project with the skills you have learned. Each class is a two-hour, video-based lecture series where you will watch and learn proper quilting techniques via screen. Then Melissa will work with you for the hands-on part of class, practicing on a few small quilt sandwiches before taking your new skills to your quilt top at home. The class fee of $125 includes 15 hours of class time in a hands-on lecture demo format with the first 3-hour Kick-off session taught by Mary on Saturday, November 3rd at 10am. The class will continue the second Monday in November followed by five additional months. Westalee ruler foot (or BERNINA #72 foot), Westalee acrylic template sets and other supplies are required and recommended for class. Please see page 7 for class dates and times.

PAPER PIECING 101
Piecemaking Basics, Intro to Machine Quilting and Bindings are NECESSARY for learning basic quilting skills and it is recommended that you take them in order, before continuing to any other quilting class. Please be aware that cutting, quilting and binding skills will not be covered in any quilting classes beyond these basics.
PIECEMAKING BASICS Pre-requisite for all other quilting classes if you have never quilted before. We will start you on your journey into the joys of quilting! You will learn everything about sewing a quilt top from A to Z including: choosing the best quilting tools and fabrics, rotary cutting with accuracy, piecing techniques for your blocks, and finishing with straight borders all to make your first quilting experience a success. BREAKFAST CLUB 2019 The 1920’s Farmers Wife Sampler Yes, it is already that time again…and boy, we can’t wait! We have been talking about this project around the shop for quite some time but just never knew exactly what we wanted to do with it and in what fabrics. Well, that problem was solved for us very quickly when we saw The 1920’s Farmers Wife sampler quilt in this beautiful and bold color version. Thanks to Laurie Aaron Hird, the original author of The Farmers Wife and Paper Pieces, they have re-imagined this project in English Paper Piecing! The one hundred and eleven, 6” blocks are coming to you in a whole new way! Now don’t fret, we will still be offering this project to you with a machine pieced option, but what a tough decision to make. Either way, the gorgeous Art Gallery Fabrics used to make this stunning version will be available for your project. You will also have the option of a lap, twin, queen or king-sized quilt already beautifully laid out for you by Laurie. While we are not ready to release the specifics just yet, just know that this beauty is in your future this Spring. We are taking reservations now; just $25 will get you on the list so that we can prepare our fabric orders and make sure you have what you need when the fun begins!
