It’s Fall Y’all! Kids are back to school, football is on TV, PSL is (almost) back at Starbucks and it is still HOT here in Vegas. We hope you all had a wonderful summer and got some relaxation time for yourself. Myself, well I didn’t get a family vacation this summer, but I did get to visit Jacksonville, Florida for the annual Bernina conference and will be on my way to St. Louis next week for my very first Baby Lock Tech. Exciting! There are some amazing new machines from both companies that you will want to make sure to stop in and see. For what is to come, well you can always count on a ton of happenings here in the shop to keep you busy sewing. First and foremost, it is our 10th Back to School Carnival! Time sure does fly. We have had caricature artist, a clown on stilts, ducks, balloons, darts, a juggler and this year the Ice cream Truck returns! But it isn’t all about the food and entertainment. It is about the fall class lineup! We have another great selection of classes so that you can not only learn a new technique or two, but also meet a new friend…or two. Other events this fall include the return of BERNINA Academy III, a new Baby Lock Kitchen Commotion event, a Spooky Soirée, Jelly Roll Day, Winter Wonderland and more! Yes, more. We don’t rest around here until you are sewing and smiling! Before I go, I wanted to send a very special congratulations to my parents, Bob and Jan Tibesar, on their 50th year of marriage this month. We all love you so very much, and are in awe of your love and dedication to each other for all these years. We wish you all the love and happiness for many years to come. A LOCAL “QUILT”STAR… Vicki of Orchid Owl Quilts is now an Author! It’s a BIG deal and we are so very excited for a great friend of the shop, Vicki Rubel. Her first book entitled “Machine Quilting Idea Book - 61 Designs to Finish Classic Patchwork” will be out this December from a major publisher, That Patchwork Place. (I bet you have a few of their titles in your sewing library!) To celebrate, Vicki will have a lecture, trunk-show and book signing at Quiltique on December 13th at 2pm. I am sure Vicki has quilted a few of your quilts if you are from the Las Vegas area and we would love to have you come out and show Vicki some love. We will be raffling off a few free books and holiday refreshments and goodies will be served.

ALL NEW BLOCK OF THE MONTH!
POINSETTIA WINTER QUILT by Jason Yenter Jason Yenter has a knack for dynamic and beautiful fabric and quilts. This new Winter themed quilt featuring A Poinsettia Winter fabric will surely be a cherished quilt for years to come. Traditional red and green stand out in gorgeous poinsettia boughs. There are just four different blocks in this quilt and this printed mitered border sets off the piecing perfectly. This block of the month is a short four-month program so that you can get done in time for this Christmas! This pattern is printed as a full color 8 1/2” x 11” book and includes directions on how to make all 4 blocks and assemble the 74” x 74” quilt. Karen will be teaching four classes for this quilt to make sure you finish by Christmas. Therefore, there are three options for this project. One, you take classes and pay $65 on each day there is class (every two weeks). Two, you don’t take class and we will bill you $50 each month for four months like a standard BOM. Three, you can purchase the full kit and pay all upfront for $195, receiving all your fabric at one time. Your kit will include the pattern book, all fabrics and binding. Backing is sold separately. Sign-ups begin now and your first month blocks will be available beginning September 15th. This BOM is also available for our far away friends by mail. *We must have at least 4 students to run this 4-class session. If we do not have that many, you may cancel or take one of the other two options.

Join us for a delightful and relaxing day behind your sewing machine (before all the trick or treating begins!) Use lots of fabrics from your stash or a Jelly Roll to make these pleated fabric log cabin style blocks. No quilting necessary! Once you have made the blocks you’re done. Simple to sew and fun to make, these blocks are a great stash buster. We invite you to bring in your unused scraps or 2 ½” strips and swap with others. If you want to coordinate yours, that’s okay too, but if you love that scrappy look, then trade away! A 38” square quilt takes about 80 strips so you will need lots, especially if you want to make your project larger. Quiltique has “starter” kits if you would like a jump on things and we will also supply some of our own scraps for you to adopt into your project. Soup and salad will be served for lunch to keep your energy up. Just bring your scraps, your machine and your sewing bestie to clock some sewing time before the sun goes down. Witches hat optional!

National Sew A Jelly Roll day was started a few years back to encourage collectors to tear open a Moda Jelly Roll and make something for themselves, as a gift or for charity! It can be a quilt or a tote bag, a pillowcase or something to wear, it doesn’t matter so long as we seize the day and celebrate the joy of being a maker. Join us for a fun, all day sew in our classroom as we make all things strippy. Unfinished strip project, a new quilt you have been meaning to sew up, or maybe you have a pretty roll that you just can’t seem to figure out what to do with? This day is for you! We will have plenty of free patterns on hand for you to choose from to get you started and of course, if you just don’t have enough…Jelly Rolls too! Lunch will be served as well as fun games and fabulous discounts on all things round. We will have lots of backgrounds to compliment most any strip set you can bring so not to worry that you won’t be prepared for any pattern. Admission only $15! Can’t sew all day? These classes include a project class that is hands on; a machine embroidery lecture/demo featuring all the amazing embroidery features the machines have; and a lecture/demo technique class that will rotate with presser feet, free-motion quilting and overlocker lessons. Classes will mostly be held on the first Fridays of the month. Stay all day or just for the subjects that interest you! Pricing for these studio classes is set up for quarterly payments per subject (project, embroidery or technique) or sign up for all 3 subjects per quarter and save money! Easily set up and edit designs right in the embroidery machine. By using the on-board editing tools, you can combine designs and make changes, group and ungroup designs, and delete part of the design and then arrange in the desired stitch order. Learn how to set the overlocker for a beautiful rolled hem. This hem finish is great for delicate fabrics but can also be used to create a decorative lettuce edge hem finish on knits. See how adjusting differential feed and adding fishing line can create sculptural effect for your next project.

Would you like to add something special to your projects that will make them stand out? Piping can add design shape and unique details to any project. MEET ED! Bringing in an all new sewing machine brand to the shop has had a list of challenges. Ed Spengler is a retiree here in Las Vegas from Colorado. While he is enjoying his retirement here, he also enjoys helping us and you with your Baby Lock needs, especially in the service department. He was an engineer for IBM for 30 years, based in Boulder, Colorado and Tucson, Arizona. He and his wife, Joan owned a Baby Lock dealership and fabric store for 20 years in Colorado. Baby Lock Serger Club Baby Lock Solaris What’s Your IQ? Attention all Solaris owners!
