Letter from the Editor
Today is December 21st. We are 10 days away from saying goodbye to a year that has been so difficult (to put it mildly) for so many. And although the new year is bound to bring us new hope and a promise for a new beginning, it is easy to be skeptical. It is easy to doubt that a new year will bring any changes to the struggles we have seen and continue to face every day. As I write this, I am reminded of one of my favorite songs, “The Climb”, performed by Miley Cyrus. The beautiful lyrics describe life as a difficult but rewarding journey. The daily challenges we have all been facing are all part of our journey. Whether it be health issues, financial struggles, loss of a loved one or loss of a job. Personally, making sure that things run smoothly here at Quiltique has been a tremendous struggle this year. As a small business there have been countless detours and bumps in the road. And sometimes the best we can do, just does not seem like enough. Yet all these challenges and struggles, will in the end, make us better. Make us stronger. Make us appreciate and count our blessings. I want you all to know that you are one of those blessings. Our customers are one of those lights in our daily life that keeps us going. Just being able to be open and be available for you, feels like a gift. So, thank you for being there for us. For showing up, whether it be in the shop or online or by phone. Thank you for spreading joy through sewing to others and to yourselves. And thank you for letting us be a part of that. So Welcome 2021! We are happy you are here. QUILT LAS VEGAS 2021 PEARLS OF THE DESERT A VIRTUAL SHOW OPENING APRIL 9, 2021 “Pearls of The Desert” will be the 30th show hosted by Desert Quilters of Nevada, a 400+ member guild in Las Vegas, Nevada. Members of DQN are accomplished quilters, and many have won prizes in national shows. The annual live quilt show usually has approximately 250 judged entries and about 1500 attendees over two days. Although a virtual show is not the ideal way to see all the beautiful quilts that will be presented, we hope that you will take time to support this important effort to keep quilters quilting during these difficult times. Quiltique will have a Virtual Booth at the show with great offerings and deals for you. We will also be sponsoring the Best In Show award at the event and we wish the best of luck to all the participants. The person who wins our sponsored award at the show will also receive a $100 Quiltique Gift Card as a bonus prize.

My Favorite Color Is Moda Sew Along Block of the Month
Which color will you choose? With six beautiful arrangements, it is a hard decision! The My Favorite Color is Moda project finishes at 81”x 99”, with 31 blocks ranging in size from 9” to 36” square. Each quilt features ten different Bella Solids. This Sew-along Block of the Month project will go all year, January to December of 2021, which covers January as a month of preparation and 11 months of sewing. We will get to sewing along on February 2nd and all thru the year working with these beautiful Bellas. The cost for this event is $20 per month for 11 months. There is a $10 color reservation fee so that we can prepare your choice. You will be given the pattern in the first month and then fabrics, as you need them, month by month. Moda will be posting and sharing tips and tricks throughout the year on the first and last Tuesdays of the month on their blog. There will be an introduction post on January 19th to get things started. Remember to use hashtag #myfavoritecolorismoda during your social shares with us and your friends. We can’t wait!

Sewing means community here at Quiltique and BERNINA machine owners are part of a special BERNINA community. For 2021, we are bringing you the BERNINA Community Studio; educational lessons that showcase the best of BERNINA products, features, and benefits through fun and inspiring projects. These classes include topics in machine embroidery, sewing, quilting and software categories. All classes are in a lecture/ demo format. We will first watch a video from a BERNINA educator on the topic and then we will show you an in-person demo where you can see all the features live. You will be given files for class handouts, project instructions and any designs if applicable on a USB stick that you bring to class and then have fun stitching at home. Classes will mostly be held on the first Fridays of the month. Each class is $15 and you will just enroll in the classes that interest you.

Create a textured background design using Endless Embroidery and sewing stitches, then use Group and Rearrange tools to place the applique stitches on top of the textured background design. Beginner: I have little or no experience with quilt making or sewing. I haven’t used or have little experience using a sewing machine. Advanced Beginner: I have experience with a rotary cutter and piecing and/or have basic sewing skills and knowledge. I have completed at least two or three projects using a sewing machine. Intermediate: I am comfortable with interpreting patterns and designs and have made several quilts or garments. I have good working knowledge of using a sewing machine. Advanced: I am comfortable with all levels of designing, sewing and creating quilts or garments. I have excellent working knowledge of using a sewing machine.

…Well let’s fix that! Who wants a “blank” surface? Not Kimberbell fans. Get ready for an all new and exciting Kimberbell adventure! Fill in The Blank is an exclusive program where you receive a monthly Kimberbell “blank” (i.e., an apron, tote, zipper pouch, etc.) and an exclusive machine embroidery or machine applique design to embellish your “blank” with. This design is not available anywhere else except with your enrollment in this program. They are unique designs created just for members of this fun club. Cost is just $15 per month! January’s project is a “Sparkle Like You Mean It” denim tote bag. Followed by a “Let Them Eat Cake” towel and a “Bunny Tales” basket in March. The design and blank are yours to make at home or do anything you like with it. So, if a certain project is not your cup of tea, then just use it on anything else you choose! A quilt, towel, tablerunner…anything! First, we want to thank E V E R Y O N E who supported our shop in 2020. It was a challenging year for most all of us in many ways. We understand that it was a bit more difficult to achieve Star Club status due to COVID-19 shopping restrictions and safety concerns last spring. Therefore, we are reducing the thresholds for 2020. We will be calculating Star Club status based on either $2000 or more in purchases in 2020 or, 15 visits and $850 dollars minimum spend in 2020. Also, as always if you purchased a sewing machine over $1000 in 2020, you are automatically a member for 2021. Although we have high hopes of improvement for 2021, we will still have certain COVID restrictions in place that will prevent us from having our annual Star Club Party in early February. Please rest assured that we will be patiently waiting to celebrate our 2021 Star Club members with a grand party. We are hopeful that come April we will be ready to set a date, but since our party involves catering and entertainment, we must know for sure when we can gather again together in a very large group setting.

Class Discount Day Saturday, January 9 th
Class Discount Day is a special day at Quiltique! Full of inspiration and fun, this day gives you the first glimpse at our new class projects and events for the next four months. It is also an opportunity to save with up to 25% off on class patterns, class supplies and class kits. Due to COVID restrictions, we are continuing to reduce class sizes and provide you with a safe and clean classroom for learning. We have also eliminated night classes from the schedule due to security and safety concerns. Please note that no regular class sign-ups will be accepted prior to this date, however, you may sign up for any Special Event classes, BOM or Mastery classes starting now. 2020 Star Club Members can view projects and sign up a day early on Friday, January 8th. Fabric kits will be discounted at 15%. All classes subject to availability. Classes cancelled by student will be refunded to a future class credit only. No supply discounts for Special Event, BOM or Mastery classes. Online and phone sign-ups will not be accepted until 1/11/21 and are excluded from discounts.
