Letter from the Editor

Anyone feel like this lately? I am raising my hand. Stress and anxiety are really turning up the dial in my world.

Yet at the same time, I feel that these challenges are also pushing me in the right direction. They are pushing me to find answers on coping, learning to let go, relaxation techniques, better health, and better appreciation. Luckily, I am not one to give up easily. While it would be easy to keep stepping back, letting this pandemic drive and determine our path both here at Quiltique and at home, we will keep stepping forward. We will keep doing what we do, staying open, offering you classes, both in person and virtually and keeping you connected to our amazing sewing community.

While we have seen some restrictions lifted here in Las Vegas, we have also had to retreat a bit. As I write this, masks have returned in our shop due to another local mask mandate. However, we have been able to bring back some in person events, which is great news for us all. Carnival will return this year, which I am very excited about.

It will feel different because we need to avoid the large indoor crowd, but it will none-the-less, be a great time.

Games and prizes will go on all day instead of just a few hours at night, giving everyone a little extra space to enjoy the festivities.

Another great event coming very soon…The Nevada Komen More Than Pink Walk on September 18th. Please join us as we walk one and a half miles to Cornerstone Park that morning and help us “fun”raise to our goal of $5000 for this great cause. I know this seems a bit lofty but there are thousands of you wonderful and giving customers out there. Quiltique will be “fun”raising with you donating proceeds from sales on walk day and raffling off our “Together” Quilt sample, and more! You don’t have to be a local to participate, as anyone can join us. See page 4 for all things pink!

Our favorite Las Vegas Local Quilter…Camille Roskelley, will join us for a special engagement in November. Showcasing projects, fabrics, and patterns from her popular book The Bonnie & Camille Quilt Bee, Camille will share her beautiful quilts and projects from the book as well as stories on how quilts have shaped her past and present. Hear how Camille makes quilting an occasion to be shared with family, friends and the global quilting community.

This is a sidewalk sale to find new homes for some of our fabulous display pieces and décor items we have used here in the shop. After 18 years of wonderful in-store displays and a bit of a flea market addiction, we have collected some things!

We will also share the quilt tops of some of our block of the month participants in the Shine On Sampler from the book. We will be raffling off a few great Thimble Blossoms patterns too. Light refreshments and a complimentary gift will be shared. Don’t miss this unique opportunity.

Join us at the shop on October 16th from 9am to 3pm for some great finds. It may look like junk to some, but if you are anything like us, this is some awesome junk. Vintage and old, these items are true treasures. Garden chairs, peeling paint windows, old rusty metal whatever’s, florals, maybe even an old quilt sample or two. If it is on the sidewalk, it is for sale. We hope you will come by to see what part of Quiltique you can take home!

QUILTIQUE’S SEW A JELLY ROLL DAY IS SEPTEMBER 11TH National Sew A Jelly Roll day was started a few years back to encourage collectors to tear open a Moda Jelly Roll and make something for themselves, as a gift or for charity! It can be a quilt or a tote bag, a pillowcase or something to wear, it doesn’t matter so long as we seize the day and celebrate the joy of being a maker. While the “official” day this year is September 18th, we are just celebrating a bit early. (Since you all will be joining us for the Komen More Thank Pink Walk on the 18th).

Join us for a fun, all day sew in our classroom as we make all things strippy. Unfinished strip project, a new quilt you have been meaning to sew up, or maybe you have a pretty roll that you just can’t seem to figure out what to do with? This day is for you! We will have plenty of free patterns on hand for you to choose from to get you started and of course, if you just don’t have enough…Jelly Rolls too!

Event time is 10am to 4pm. Lunch will be served as well as fun games and fabulous discounts on all things round. We will have lots of backgrounds to compliment most any strip set you can bring so not to worry that you won’t be prepared for any pattern. Admission only $20!

Saturday, September 18th 9am Will you walk with us? Join Team Quiltique for the Komen More Than Pink Walk 2021 to help raise awareness and funds for breast cancer. This year the annual walk is a bit different (as everything has been lately) and is going to happen all over Nevada on September 18th. Everyone is invited to walk either with us, starting here from the shop at 9am, or just in your own neighborhood, or wherever you may want to walk from. No matter where you live, you can still walk for the cure!

Plan to meet here at 9am so we can walk as a group. We will walk together to Cornerstone Park, approximately a mile and a half walk, for the live event held there that begins at 10am.

If you personally raise more than $100, you will be able to get a commemorative T-shirt from the walk, there at the park. If our team raises more than $5,000, we earn VIP status and will receive free food and drinks at the event. There will also be free live entertainment, games to win prizes and food trucks too. STITCH PINK 2021 “TOGETHER” Designed by Sherri McConnell, this year's Stitch Pink quilt is Together, and it is made with the Sincerely Yours collection by Sherri & Chelsi. As it was last year, a portion of Moda's proceeds will be donated to the National Breast Cancer Organization.

Beginning Friday, October 1, Moda will be quilting-along with Sherri as she makes this heartfelt quilt, sharing tips and methods in five videos that will be shared free on her YouTube channel, and through Moda's Inspiration+Resources blog.

Quilting Basics

HOW DO I RATE MY SKILL LEVEL? Beginner: I have little or no experience with quilt making or sewing. I haven’t used or have little experience using a sewing machine.

BEGINNING QUILTING Pre-requisite for all other quilting classes if you have never quilted before.

This beginning quilting program is designed to take you from your first cut to your last stitch and enjoy the process each step of the way. You will learn everything about making a quilt including choosing the best quilting tools and fabrics, rotary cutting with accuracy, block assembly, attaching your borders, quilting the quilt on your machine and binding. You will finish this 7-week course with a complete and finished quilt – made by you! Basic sewing knowledge is required and there is sewing homework between classes. Vol. 2 - Simply Scanning

Learn more about the powerful software already in your Baby Lock Embroidery Machine, IQ Designer (certain models only). Your class will contain an IQ designer video lesson, six PDF projects and embroidery files all on a USB. Learn how to combine editing and create new objects using built-in IQ designer shapes. Michelle will also teach you more about stitch types and fills and combining those fancy fills with weave patterns.
