Letter from the Editor

Welcome 2022! I have been waiting for you. I have been waiting to put another year of uncertainty, struggle, and strife behind us. 2021 was supposed to be a better year or at least I was hopeful for that. And while we have made progress, this year just brought all new challenges and struggles. Today, December 14th, the news said it has been one year ago that the first vaccine was administered to a nurse from Long Island, NY. That was a celebratory day for many, but unfortunately not all. I have had to learn a few lessons in that regard. Life lessons about learning to let go and that I can’t control what I can’t control. That is hard for me. It is hard to think that after one whole year of having a vaccine for COVID 19 that we are still wearing masks and being warned about spending the holidays with our loved ones. In so many ways 2021 has been more difficult than 2020, both in business and with my personal life and I am ready for a fresh start. So welcome 2022. Let’s try again.

I hope you will find some renewed interest in sewing and creating this year. We have some fun and interesting new classes that we hope will spark some excitement and curiosity with your sewing. Our Blocks and Bagels club is a new twist on our previous Breakfast Club and I know you will expand your quilting knowledge by joining this fun mystery block group.

And because of the popularity of our last few Jelly Roll Day events, we have created the Simon Says Sew! Days which will include all the favorite things you enjoyed with Jelly Roll Day, like free patterns, open sewing time and of course fun games and prizes. I would sign up early for this one!

This upcoming year also brings our 19th Anniversary since we opened our doors in 2003. My daughter who will graduate high school this May, and whom you may have met here working at the shop, was just a twinkle in my eye. So many amazing things have happened over all these years. You are all one of those things. Thank you for being the support that a shop like this needs to survive and thrive. And for those of you who ask about my Mom, she is hanging in there, and feels the love you are all sending her way. Thank you and bless all of you for your prayers and support.

Well, Happy New Year everyone! Let’s be there for each other, whatever this year will bring and make 2022 a year to be proud of.

BLOCKS AND BAGELS CLUB

Ready for a new adventure in piecing? We’ve got it!

Join Maria every first Friday of the Month in the morning for a new quilting club. WE are going to be building blocks one piece at a time, one block at a time, until we have a whole box of blocks at the end of the year.

Using the book The Splendid Sampler from Pat Sloan and Jane Davidson as our guide, we will present you with four to five different blocks each class. You will not know which blocks you will be working on…it’s a surprise. There are lots of different techniques included in piecing these blocks…some you might be familiar with and some you may not. Patchwork, appliqued, embroidered, and foundation-pieced blocks are part of the experience. This club is for all skill levels; besides, anyone can handle piecing one block at a time, and you just might learn a thing or two!

Color selection is up to you. Choose our preselected and coordinated colors for your sampler blocks, or you can choose to go scrappy and choose your own along the way. Each person will receive 4 fat quarters for their blocks each class. If you choose to pick your own, you will get to choose any 4 fat quarters in the shop you like. Instructions will not be provided on where to put your fabrics in your blocks as this is your choice. However, we WILL celebrate your creativity and individuality in this club!

This club is not a “get in and get out” type meeting. This is a club where you get time for yourself to sit and sew with us. This means that space is limited to the seats in our classroom. Maria will be guiding you as you build on your skills right in class. And of course, we will provide bagels and coffee for everyone each morning (since it is called the Blocks & Bagels Club) so you can stitch at your leisure and enjoy the process. And the process is what quilting and creating is all about.

Cost for the Blocks and Bagels Club is $30 per month for 11 months, billed the day of class (whether you show up or not). You can also choose to pay upfront and receive a $25 Quiltique Gift Card for your early payment. Price includes the Splendid Sampler book, which you will not receive until after the club commences (don’t worry you will get the block patterns each month), your class instruction from Maria and your 4 fat quarters each month.

MY HAPPY PLACE This perfectly stitchy quilt entitled “My Happy Place” features Lori’s fabric line from Riley Blake called “Stitch”. Lori has a love affair with anything stitching related whether it's sewing applique, embroidering or cross stitching. Several prints in her latest collection take a curtsey to all types of stitching related items that Lori loves as well as to her endearing love of vintage prints. The My Happy Place Quilt follows that same theme. It is both pieced and appliqued.

You may remember we had offered this as a BOM back in the summer but due to manufacturing delays, we were not able to begin the quilt with the online stitchalong as planned and did not have a beautiful sample to show you. Fast forward to now…our sample is at the quilter, and we are ready to bring you this fun, and irresistible quilt. AURIFIL’S COLOR BUILDERS

Introducing Flora, the 2022 Aurifil Color Builders, offered as our brand-new no-fuss subscription service. Twelve mini collections featuring 12 irresistible hues broken out into 36 delightful spools of Aurifil thread– we deliver inspiration to your doorstep every month for a whole year!

The colors for the 2022 program were drawn from 12 breathtaking rainforest plants, from the Amazon Water Lily and the Bird of Paradise to the Jade Vine and the Spider Lily. These plants are a representation of our earth’s most threatened tropical forests, largely affected by deforestation and climate change. For 2022, Aurifil will be donating to Rainforest Trust, an organization dedicated to the long-term protection of these forests.

Flora is a celebration of Aurifil’s variegated thread. Aurifil produces 36 variegated thread colors; threads that contain multiple colors or multiple shades of one color.

Twenty-four of these shades are represented in the 2022 program. Each set contains 3 large spools of 50wt — 2 variegated and 1 complementary solid. If you are new to Aurifil or to our variegated thread, this subscription is an excellent introduction!

In addition to the thread, subscription holders will receive monthly newsletters with color inspiration, thread education, and an exclusive appliqué pattern designed and developed by Aurifil’s own Kate Brennan in partnership with graphic designer Christina Weisbard. Patterns are centered around flora-themed appliqué, allowing each featured monthly plant to take center stage.

Class Discount Day Saturday, January 8th Class Discount Day is a special day at Quiltique! Full of inspiration and fun, this day gives you the first glimpse at our new class projects and events for the next four months. It is also an opportunity to save with up to 25% off on class patterns, class supplies and class kits. Spring classes are popular so be sure to mark your calendars and join us to preview all our fresh offerings.

Please note that you can sign up for any Special Event classes, BOM or Mastery classes at any time but no regular class sign-ups will be accepted prior to Class Discount Day on the 8th. 2021 Star Club Members can view projects and sign up a day early on Friday, January 7th.
