Hello loyal readers and customers! Thank you for taking time to pick up this latest edition of The Stash and browse the pages. We always appreciate your support, even when we can’t see it.
This last month, after the loss of my Grandma, everything got put into perspective. The loss of a loved one can really shake things up and make you count your blessings. My family and I want you to know that you, our loyal customers are at the top of that list. It is a great blessing to get to do what we do every day and we thank you for that! As we come upon our 12th Birthday here at Quiltique (We like to call it a birthday because it sounds more fun!), we realize it has taken a lot of blessings along the way to get us here, including those blessings in disguise. As you read these pages hopefully you will find many fun, exciting opportunities and small blessings that make your creative self complete. Things like Kaffe Fassett visiting us in October, Natalia Bonner and Annie Unrein teaching in our classroom, are all really exciting things to us in the shop and hopefully to you as well. How about joining us this month to sew pillowcases for children hospitalized with cancer? Talk about counting your blessings! This is the perfect opportunity to show your care and concern for our community and those who can really use our support. Summer is upon us…it’s time to enjoy a little time off and hopefully a little time with your sewing machine! Quiltique will provide the fabric for all the pillowcases plus movies, snacks and birthday party fun. You just bring your sewing machine (or serger) and basic sewing supplies. We’ll sew night and day making pillowcases for children who are hospitalized with cancer. ConKerr Cancer provides bed-bound kids with bright and cheery pillowcases to help liven up the room that they are stuck in for days, weeks, or longer. All the pillowcases will be donated to this great cause and will also be counted toward the 1 Million Pillowcase Challenge by American Patchwork and Quilting. So put on your PJ’s, wear your bunny slippers and give us a call to sign up for this fun and worthy event in conjunction with our birthday celebration! Sign up for either day or both. Have you heard the buzz? Have you already collected some rows and license plates last year in other states? Do you have no idea what I am talking about? The Row by Row Experience is a national “Shop Hop” of sorts that runs all summer. It started with an idea from one shop owner in New York and is now the hottest thing across quilt shops in all 50 states. This will be the first year for Nevada and Quiltique and boy are we excited! There are no passports to stamp, no fees, you get all summer to travel and discover new shops and the patterns for the rows are absolutely FREE! Visit participating shops, while you travel this summer, from June 21st through September 8th to collect your rows. Kits will be available at many shops to make it easy for you to get sewing. The theme this year is H2O so all the different rows will be designed around this theme. To win, collect rows from at least 8 different shops and the first one to bring in a complete quilt to their local shop will win a Fat Quarter tower with 25 Fat Quarters! Yippee! If you bring us your quilt and you have our row in it, there is an awesome bonus prize from Quiltique. There are also collectable state license plates that you can collect from different shops. We have two to choose: Sew Unique (Our shop slogan) or Sew Lucky. These license plates are fun to incorporate into your row quilt or anything you choose.

Week-long Sew & Quilt Camp for Kids July 6-10…9am-12:30pm • Camp fee $369* Our popular summer camp for young sewists is back and all new for 2015! Camp Sew What is a creative opportunity for your kids aged 10-16 to learn sewing and quilting on their very own sewing machine! They will learn their way around a sewing machine, learn and practice basic techniques, and make several finished projects including their first quilt. Our kid-friendly staff will lead students through a series of projects from the book “Sewing School 2”, giving them an opportunity to learn basic sewing skills and practice what they’ve learned. In addition to skillbuilding projects, students will make a basic backpack, a zippered pouch, and finish their week by piecing a simple strip quilt and tying the top. The $369 cost includes:

Bobbinwork Lecture and Demonstration Skill Level: All Levels Monday, July 13th 6:00pm Lecture Fee: $20 Learn how exciting it is to work with thick threads! There are a lot of interesting threads which are too thick for the upper tension of the machine and the needle, but wound onto the bobbin you can use them to great effect. Bobbin work can be used to embellish garments, accessories or home décor. You will learn how to set up your machine for this eye-catching machine embroidery technique as well as talk about suitable threads, how to choose and create your own pattern and how to sew it either by using straight-line or free-motion stitching. Gisela will also demonstrate how to use scraps from your stash to make multi-layered rich fabrics as a basis for the embroidery. A lot of samples will be shown at this inspirational and educational lecture.
Sewing Case with Surface Design
1-Day Hands-On Workshop Skill Level: Advanced Beginner Tuesday, July 14th 10:00am – 4:30pm Class Fee: $60 In this workshop you will have the opportunity to create your own material in order to make a sewing case. The base of the material is a fusible batting covered with strips of fabric, which is then covered with a layer of organza and thereafter heavily embellished with programmed decorative machine stitching using a variety of threads. The highlight is then created with bobbin drawing using thick, special effect threads which have been wound onto the bobbin. Various designs for the bobbin drawing will be available in class. As additional time is needed for completion of the case, class participants will receive detailed instructions on how to do this independently. A Panera box lunch is available for $12.
