Dear Parents, Grandparents, Faculty, Alumni, Alumni Parents, Board of Trustees and Friends,
It is my honor to welcome you to Austin Prep’s 6oth Anniversary Gala. Tonight, we reflect on the accomplishments of yesterday, embrace the opportunities of today, and imagine the future with enormous pride, confidence, and optimism. Austin Prep at 6o serves as a model of innovative leadership, endowed with a community of students, teachers, parents, and alumni always valuing what it means to exemplify the Augustinian values of veritas, unitas, and caritas
As we look back on the last 60 years, I cannot help but think of our legacy of achievement. Austin Prep’s founding Friars began with an idea shared by dreamers and futurists who looked beyond the horizon and imagined a school that would serve us all and shape our faith and our future.
It is truly inspiring to consider the depth and our reach of Austin Prep’s impact. The last decade has witnessed enormous growth and expansion. Austin Prep alumni are contributing every day in the world beyond our campus. Parents are delighted with the return on their investment of shaping people of character who enter the world with Augustinian hearts.

Austin Prep’s mission has served as a guiding light – an unwavering compass – over the years, and it has grown from a solitary idea to a beacon of knowledge and a solid foundation that steadies the relentless aspirations of our students and graduates. The faculty, coaches and staff have shared that mission with the students they teach and mentor, and thousands of students, spanning the last 60 years, have embraced that mission and made it their own. Through their determination and pursuit of the truth, they labor every day in the Lord’s Vineyard.
As we look to our next decade, we will stubbornly embrace the characteristics of an Augustinian education as a catalyst to advance veritas, unitas, and caritas. Our mission inspires us to do everything within our influence to develop a community of people who work together to make the world a better place for current and future generations. We equip students with the requisite skills, competencies, and mindsets to make a tangible difference in a global world.
It is exciting to imagine the endless possibilities of what Austin Prep will become in the next decade through our ongoing work together. Tonight, as we celebrate our achievement, we are also taking our next steps in the Journey ahead to enrich our Augustinian heritage. As St. Augustine reminds us: “The heavenly city—that is the City of God—is on a pilgrimage in this world. Even so, we possess a degree of peace in this life because of our faith. By virtue of that faith, we strive with God’s grace to live lives of righteousness, knowing that each little victory of justice and love, each good action performed in relation to God and our neighbor, provides a glimpse of heavenly peace. For our life here on earth, as well as our eventual life in heaven is inevitably a social life.”
God bless you all!
Sincerely,

James Hickey, Ph.D. P’22,’23,’24,’27
