Meet a Motivated Mompreneur What steps did you take to get things going in the beginning? I worked for many years in the entertainment industry, working my way up from a “lowly Production Assistant” all the way up to Producer/Director. I was inspired by a friend to start a blog which became a book. I just followed my heart and passion and took the time to learn my craft, hone my skills and kept at it.
Are there any books that you would recomend to help mompreneurswith their business? There are probably tons – You could read mine! Tipping Sacred Cows, it’s fun and interesting..I enjoy reading books, but not usually ones that give me tips on how to be more productive or balanced…. I think most of us already know what we need, we just need to do it….
What has been the most effective way of raising awareness of your business and getting new customers?
What advice would you give to other mompreneurs who are just starting their business?
Word of mouth. Referrals and I’m am blessed to have a large audience because of projects I have created in the past have been well received.
Be passionate and Pragmatic. One can be both and succeed. Set realistic Goals, know what you can and cannot do. Do your research, create a business plan (I can’t tell you how many women I have worked with who started a business and didn’t have a plan) Planning, research, planning action…
What challenges have you faced and how did you overcome them? I am lucky to be disciplined in the art of getting things done. I can multi task and I am good at organizing my days. I work with the concept of doing several small tasks first (ie: answering emails, posting on social, etc and then I tackle 1 medium task and then one large task. I assign a time limit to each task and a level (ie: 5 minutes – small) For large projects I create a calendar of goals and I make sure each day has the right amount of tasks assigned so I don’t feel overwhelmed, I am making progress and I set realistic goals.
Any other thoughts that you would like to share with other motivated mompreneurs? Have fun, remember it’s all going to be ok..
How do you balance taking care of your children and running your business? My kids are older and in school, so I work around their school schedule. And they have become accustomed to going with me, and self- entertaining when I need to work. 12 Motivated Mompreneurs

Living my
Dreams by Betsy Chasse
I was a Momprenuer before Momprenuer was a thing. I’ve been a working mom since the day my daughter was born in 2004 while I was in the midst of birthing another child: the international hit indie film What The Bleep Do We Know?! My son was born a few years later while I was still promoting What the Bleep?! and gearing up for the release of another film. Both my kids know what it’s like to be on set and crawl up the aisle of a room full of 1000 people watching me speak. My daughter has been known to steal the show on many an evening as I held her in my arms, trying to keep the mic out of her hands. To this day she has a lot to say! I want to be there for my kids and have the career that fulfills my heart. This was a conscious choice I made when I decided to become a mother and, I have to tell you, it hasn’t been easy. My “office” is wherever I am, and I include my kids deeply in my life, working around their lives and schedules. Sometimes I miss parties and important events. But I wouldn’t have it any other way. When I got divorced, it became more challenging. Luckily, I wasn’t afraid to ask for help. My mom pitched in, my friends helped, and then, thankfully, both kids started school! Asking for help and support was probably the best decision I ever made. I think many moms end up in the role of overworked martyr because we’ve been told we can have it all and do it all. And I’m here to tell you, you can’t. And that’s not a bad thing. 14 Motivated Mompreneurs
Having a good sense of when to say “yes” and when to say “no” has saved me a lot of stress and anxiety. My kids come first. It starts there. With determination, creativity, an awareness of what I can and can’t do and with support of my family, friends, and now a loving partner, I have managed to create a business I love and a family life that fulfills me and supports them. But this didn’t happen overnight. Creating my life this way took a lot of time, effort, and sacrifice. First, I had to get clear on what I wanted my life to look like. There are a lot of articles that talk about balance and self-care and “me time”… which I feel are unrealistic. I let go of the notion that life is ever in balance. It isn’t. Life is what it is and does what it does. How you respond to what shows up is what matters. I am in control of how much stress I carry. Even when I can’t control what’s happening in my kids’ lives, their school, my partner’s life, or what’s happening with my projects, I have total control over how I deal with it. Learning to stop, breath and trust that it’s all going to work out, (it always does!), listen to my gut and go with it has made a world of difference. I don’t always get it right. I fail. Sometimes I lose it with my kids. Sometimes I lose it with my partner. Sometimes the electric bill gets paid late. And that’s ok. That’s life. What matters is my family and I have a lot of love, communicate well, and are living a consciously designed life based in personal choice. www.MotivatedMompreneurs.com
Creating my momprenuer life, I had to let go of some things I loved. I had to stop skipping off to exotic places to film, traveling non-stop. I took fewer risks because I had to make sure I had a consistent income (my kids can’t live on Top Ramen and Coke like I did in my 20’s). And I drove an SUV instead of a BMW.
my personal interests. It was scary at first. My biggest fears were, “What if I can’t get funding? What if they fail?” These are reasonable fears in the film industry. I just had to dig deep into my reservoir of trust and faith. I knew I had the “know how.” I just needed to trust myself. When you’re a single mom with two kids to support, I think that’s the hardest leap to make. But here’s the thing: I didn’t make risky choices. I bet on myself. I took my life’s experience, the wisdom I knew I had and turned it into a business that supports us financially and supports my soul. Next year I have three books and a docuseries coming out. “Ready-Set-Date” reflects my curiosity around finding lasting love. (Seriously we all need to learn how to be better daters!) I’m also expanding the publishing company into the spiritual romance genre (Yes, you read that right!) with my publishing partner Cate Montana and her book Apollo & Me. We’re also creating Co-Parenting with Your Polar Opposite—a compilation book and docu-series exploring the stressful world of co-parenting with someone who seems to disagree with you on everything. We’re looking for parenting and relationship coaching contributors now!
Having kids forced me to get creative. I love sharing stories. I love inspiring others. I love spreading interesting tools and tips on how to live a (mostly!) happy and healthy life. Instead of jet-setting to random cities on a moment’s notice to speak, I found a way to bring the stories to me. In 2015 I began a publishing company, and, as of 2019, I will have published five best-selling books! (The Coaching Code, It Came Out Of My Vagina, Now What?, Dancing In The Unknown, Shamanism in The New Millennium, and Ready-Set Date) Instead of making other people’s films, I now make my own. Each project reflects www.MotivatedMompreneurs.com
Bottom line, I keep changing and growing, even when it scares me. Especially when it scares me. Because I know in my heart that living my dreams is one of the best examples I will ever set for those two precious beings who mean more to me than anything else in the world. For me, that’s what being a momprenuer is all about.

Building Your
Dream
by Kalanit Lagbas
One of the most important parts of business is.. well, business. Along with the extraordinary journey of ‘mom-preneurship” we are all expected to wear a multitude of hats. Every aspect of our lives requiring a certain mindset. In essence, we find ourselves in a juggling act, partially given to us by society and ourselves by pressure and ambition. Often these mindsets can be in opposition of each other, making ourselves our own worst enemy. We all have different reasons for starting our businesses; financial freedom, hobby, wanting to help others, work from home, etc. As moms we all have one thing in common. We work from home and work against the stigma and expectations that are unspokenly put upon us. Most of us feel a need to be ‘superwoman’. It’s a delicate balance trying to decide what gets more attention, and of course, it looks different for each of us.
Latham. Orangetheory didn’t start out as Orangetheory. It began when Ellen had lost her job at a spa in Miami, FL, alone with a son in 1996. With nothing else to lose she turned her spare room into a pilates studio and held one on one classes. As it grew she was able to open a studio outside of her home. Years after, she wanted more than just one aspect of a workout and developed her own system. In 2010, she rebranded as Orangetheory and as we all know, it took off. She’s now listed at the top of the 50 fastest-growing womenowned businesses, released by the Women Presidents Organization, a New York-based advocacy and education group for women entrepreneurs. From start up to rebranding in 2010, it took 14 years for her business to take off and make millions.
Are we all capable of reaching such success? Heck yeah we are. But first things first. Don’t force it and try building too fast. A house If there’s one thing I have learned going of cards built with nervous hands will always into our second year of business, it is this; fall. So what are some resources we can use Small setbacks are surmountable as long to build a reliable business? as you are working towards growth. We all started from somewhere. Take for example I’ve culled together a small list of ideas to the CEO of Orangetheory Fitness, Ellen help. 16 Motivated Mompreneurs
1
Network Most of us own an online business and work from the confines of our homes. Get out of your comfort zone and find some local network groups (there’s a ton for mompreneurs). Yes it can be nerve wracking, but every woman there has been in your shoes. Make new friends with women who get it; Who understand the sacrifices that being a mompreneur come with. Spreading word about your business is great, just don’t make it the only thing you’re doing. Be authentic.
2
Establish Partnerships Finding others close to your industry or even in it, can be beneficial to you both. Maybe you haven’t found your niche, but know that there’s that one thing you hate doing. You might find someone else that specializes in it. Partner up with them and refer clients to one another.
3
Build A Referral Network This is something that will happen naturally as you network and form relationships. It takes time and consistency. As relationships form and people become familiar with you and your brand, they will think of you when speaking with others. Thus begins the ripple effect.
4
Start A Referral/Affiliate Program If you are not already familiar with what an affiliate program is, it’s where a company will pay you either a percentage or a flat fee for referring their service or product. Starting your own is easy. Just decide how much your budget can allow and whether or not you want to pay out a percentage or flat fee with each referral. For instance, we pay out $25 for each referral that signs on as a new client.
Building your dream business is possible. It takes hard work, dedication and sacrifice, but as your mompreneurs we are here to empower one another to be better than we were yesterday. Keep hustling momma.

The 7 Principles of a Woman of Brilliance are: 1. A Woman of Brilliance activates her power by placing herself at the center of her universe unapologetically! In order to support others, your first step is to focus your attention on you! Making yourself a priority, filling yourself up by nurturing you, allows you to feed others from your overflow. That’s why they ask that you put your own oxygen mask on first on the airplane, allowing you to help save others.
2. A Woman of Brilliance knows herself intimately. When you know yourself at a level where you know your values, your beliefs, your purpose and what you are passionate about and you live a life being fully aware of your God given talents, you are supporting yourself in being fully aligned with who you are. This allows you to become the creator of your own experiences and life a life where you are free.
3. A Woman of Brilliance speaks to herself as the Goddess that she is. The stories you tell yourself, your loved ones and others are so powerful. So rather than saying, “I can’t”, I won’t”, replace these with “I am” and “I will.” If you find non-positive thoughts creeping in, thank your unconscious mind for sharing, bless those thoughts and move forward with even more positive self-talk. These conversations that you have with yourself will become even more powerful as you fill yourself with lots of self-love for yourself and all your positivity will filter out to those in your inner circle.
4. A Woman of Brilliance understands that there is a lesson to receive in all experiences. Living from a mindset of learning lessons from all experiences, allows you to increase your power and reinvent yourself and your business as a result of the lessons that you learn. Next time you have an experience which is less positive, ask yourself what lessons can I learn for the future? Allow them to support your growth.

5. A Woman of Brilliance has an undeniable self-belief. Believing in yourself and your own abilities is one of the best gifts you can honor yourself with. When you believe in yourself, you can achieve anything you set out to accomplish. Having an undeniable self-belief where you know that you can achieve anything, allows you to be successful in all your efforts. When you have any doubt in yourself, get a notepad and pen and start to identify all the facts that disprove this. You will end up with a list of all the things that prove just how brilliant you truly are.
6. A Woman of Brilliance has clarity of vision and focus Having clarity of exactly what it is you desire (your vision) and always having that vision at the forefront of your mind (your focus) will help you to keep you on track and remain with your eyes on your ultimate desire. Document all your goals for 2019, ensuring that they are SMART – Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time bound) and using various strategies including a vision board and visualization to support you in making your desires a reality.
7. A Woman of Brilliance surrounds herself with her own Brilliance Team. Surrounding yourself with your own Brilliance Team who are there to support you, cheer you on, hold your vision when you are not able to and even lift you up when needed. These are the people in your inner circle who know your desired vision for yourself and your business and have your back in a supportive way. These 7 Principles will support you in taking your leap into 2019 in the most powerful way. Allowing you to full embrace all that is authentic about who you are and doing what you are passionate about. You have all the tools required to make this year your best yet. My intention for you is that your heart is supported by the words shared within these pages, supporting you to fully embody a Brilliance Mindset that propels you into the year and supports you in achieving all the desires in your business and your personal life this year. You are a brilliant being who has an inner brilliance that I see shining brightly and I want you to see what I see in you. The potential to soar higher than you have ever flown before. A Simple Meditation to Reclaim Your True Self 24 Motivated Mompreneurs
www.MotivatedMompreneurs.com
As Momprenuers, we’re busy creating big things in our lives, caring for our families, our communities, working hard to build a better world for our children’s future. We’ve got lists upon lists of things to get done and technology to “help” us. As a result, we spend a lot of time in our heads. Which means it’s all too easy to start disconnecting from our hearts, disconnecting from each other and from life itself. Decades ago, the books that really propelled us into evolving and thinking differently, such as Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich, were all about the passion and the heart you put into something you create. Today, we’re creating at lightspeed, but the question is, “What are we creating? Are we happy in our creations? Have we lost part of ourselves trying to have everything?”
All of our hearts have been through so much. So many traumas since birth; so many disappointments; so many betrayals. But none of those things need to stop us from expanding and living in the truth of our heart. It is your birth right to have a beautiful fulfilling heart filled life. So, how do we do this? It seems like it should be simple, but many times it’s hard to find our hearts, isn’t it? Then we say, “Gosh, I just don’t feel anything. I feel flat lined. Life doesn’t have the same meaning it used to have.” When this happens, we become depressed and anxious. I remember as a single mom when I was building my business and caring for my two kids on my own, I often felt exhausted and overwhelmed. Even as success came, I still felt unfulfilled.
Then early one morning as I was waking up a Presence of Light showed me a meditation. This Presence said to me, “You are disconnected from the light of your heart. This is why you feel dis heartened. Follow my guidance and you will rediscover the joy of life.” So I began to reconnect my heart with the light. My deeper spiritual self emerged and my depression and anxiety was lifted. I now take 5 to 10 minutes everyday to connect with the light of my heart. And To have this kind of satisfactory human it has been miraculous. I taught this to my experience, we must stay connected to our friends and they all came back reporting heart. A Simple Meditation of the Heart Look into your heart and imagine there is the most beautiful rose, an incredible flower of light. And in the middle of this rose there are many gemstones of light. These gemstones of light are dancing and spinning like sparklers, emitting light. You will begin to feel a warm sensation in your heart. Now I want you to think of someone you love, someone you love so much that when you think of them your heart just melts. Do you feel it? Now, I’d like you to take that feeling of love in your heart for that person, or that place, or that thing that makes you just melt, and place the love you’re feeling into the spinning gems of light in your heart rose. And now with every breath imagine expanding this feeling of love, until the light and love fill your entire body. Now, take this feeling of love and in your imagination I want you to consciously connect it to someone you don’t feel love for—someone that’s really giving you a problem, either now or in the past. It doesn’t matter who it is, but I want you to take that feeling of love, that light, and give it to this other person … give it to them in your mind. Feel the love expand until it includes you both. How do you feel inside of your body now? This loving state will support you. Open your eyes. Go out into the world. I guarantee you, you’re going to greet life with more happiness and experience greater opportunity and synchronicity. You’re going to have a powerful, satisfying experience of being a Momprenuer. Four Things Mompreneurs Thinking About
Homeschooling Should Consider
by Tia Forlizzi
Whether you are a momprenuer thinking of homeschooling or never even thought of the idea I encourage you take a look into how busy, passion driven mompreneurs like yourself ended up becoming mompreneurs that homeschool and how they balance all that comes with motherhood, entrepreneurship, and homeschooling. I always tossed the idea of homeschooling my children around, but everyone I knew was certain that once I had my own kids I would change my mind and would be ready to send them out of the nest. When I got pregnant though, that idea became a true passion for me to fulfill with my child. Initially I went the traditional route and enrolled my daughter into preschool, but everyday I yearned to explore the world with her and to learn right

along side her. After a year and a half of private preschool I pulled my daughter out of traditional school and decided to follow my heart and homeschool her. Though I have done research on homeschooling over the last few years and I have been running my business for six years I am relatively new to the life as a mompreneur that home schools so I enlisted a few other mompreneurs that home school or have home schooled in the past to share their journey, experiences, and advice in addition to my own. Here are four pieces of advice all of us mompreneurs who homeschool or have home schooled before could agree upon.
1. Time management is the key to success for most things, but most especially when it comes to being a mompreneur that home schools. Balancing all the hats of running a business, being a mother, and home schooling our children is not easy. There is always something that needs to get done or someone who needs tending to. Without a consistent schedule and the ability to focus our energy and manage our time we found that it is nearly impossible to complete everything on the to do list. After much trial and error I was able to identify when things just worked out better for me and my children and designed our daily schedule around those times. I know I do my best work before I interact with others and get distracted by the excitement of a new day so first thing every morning I do the most important tasks regarding my business and then homeschool my kids. While other mompreneurs said they homeschool for a few hours in the morning and work on their business in the afternoon. Whatever schedule works for you and your family is the right schedule for you. After sticking with the schedule it will become routine and once it is routine daily life seems a whole lot less chaotic.
3. The world is a classroom. Sometimes as a mompreneur things happen and pull us in the opposite direction than we originally expected. As homeschooling mompreneurs with tight schedules this can cause some stress. In these situations, we have found that including our children in real life situations or our business in some capacity allows for learning, growth, and development. These situations where things do not go according to plan allow you to introduce your children to an array of information regarding entrepreneurship and being positive and participating citizens. In addition these experiences help create another dimension to the parent/child relationship. My children have even developed a new sense of pride since participating in smaller operational tasks in my business.
4. Have realistic expectations. Homeschooling as a momprenuer is no easy feat. There are many other options for schooling that call for less time and energy from us as parents. However, if you do choose to homeschool remember that this will be a dynamic change for your entire family. Take time to help your children adjust to your family’s new schedule, seek a support 2. Find what works for you and your family group for yourself, attend a conference, and and do that. There are many different remember Rome was not built in day. approaches to homeschooling. Do your research, find out what aligns best with your family’s values and lifestyle. Then get organized and get it done. Some mompreneurs use online programs and curriculums. I’ve chosen a more Montessori inspired approach for my homeschooling. A quick internet search will help kick start your research to figure out what will work for you.
