Markus Alnqvist with his drone - a heavy flying piece. ’It weighs about 11 kg’, he says.
He made his hobby into buisness A couple of years ago Markus Alnqvist bought himself a little cheap radio-controlled aeroplane. The planes soon became a big-big-BIG interest and a hobby which today is not neither small nor cheap. Flying is his biggest interest and he has hours and hours of flight time. After a while he started to combining the radio-controlled aeroplanes with another hobby of
his, photography andmaking videos. – After a while people heard about my camera-drone and started to engage me for various types of jobs. I also have a heat-sensitive camera and it has been useful for controlling things from above, ice formations on windmills for example. Recently he started his own buisness, a one man-firm called ’Macke’s Drone Cams &
Service’.

tittle tattle An unusual burglery The other night the Police in Luleå were called out to an unusual burglary. The burglar turned out to be the owner of the apartment, a drug addict who had broken into his own apartment.
An opening party They have done a fantastic job and processed 35,000 square meters of snow. On Saturday, the 16th of January, IGLOOTEL has its Opening Party. A evening when they will show inveted guests their great snow facility.
An important cog A key cog in the automotive testing industry is the transportation of test cars all around the world. Large trucks carrying prototypes and test cars to and from the area. On icy roads, in the cold, and in the snow and wind. Let’s find out what they think about their job. Let's meet Marius and Bernd, two truck drivers who works for the company Auto-Siegel.
They spend much of their awakening hours on roads throughout Europe, and they sleep in their trucks between 280 and 300 nights a year. How do they kill time? - When we are drivning we listen to the radio, to audio books or talk to each other on the communication radio. In the evenings and during our breaks we watch satellite TV, movies or surf on our laptops. How does it feel to work in a business with high security requirements? - In the beginning when everything was new, it was very exciting with all the cars, but today it’s our everyday life, they say. They think it's easier to drive in Sweden than in Germany. - The rhythm of the traffic is much slower and calmer. It is important to be calm and in good spirits when you start driving, if not, it is better to do another transport to another place, says Bernd. - The traffic flows in a better way and you don't have to constantly accelerate or break to adjust your speed, says Marius. Their trucks are large and heavy, do they worry about drivning them in bad Weather? - No, because their heavy weight gives a better and more secure handling. The tires become warm when we drive, and a kind of "tape effect" occurs between the tires and the roadway. After the interview they got into their trucks, and roared off to Germany, to load another cargo.

A reindeer in their bathroom There have been a couple of very cold days in January which can be tough for a weak and sick reindeer calf. But fortunately, the calf Fia- Lisa, lives with the reindeer hurders, The Unnes family in Arjeplog . They simply let the calf move into the family house. During the days she stays outside with the other reindeers and during the nights she sleeps in the bathroom, in the family’s bathtub together with the family pets which are accustomed to both reindeer and reindeer calves hence are all laid-back about the newcomer.
A movie festival in Arjeplog It is only one month left, until the 12th to the 14th of February which is the weekend for this years ’Arjeplogs Filmfestival 2016’ - The Arjeplog movie festival. Seven Swedish films are to be shown and the guest list is completed. There are many locals looking forward to this movie weekend, which is the eleventh since the beginning.
About the climate hall Pether Wallin, AstaZero about the Activity week 8, on the ice of lake Ullak. – We already have a promise from the European Investment Bank but still need funding from elsewhere. We also need international commitment and that’s why the Activity Week 8 in February is so important for the project, says Pether Wallin, AstaZero.

Thomas Westermeier, 44 Technical manager BMW Group
The Hot Seat Family: Married - to Monika
Present car: I’ve got a BMW 3-series Touring.
Home: 40 km north of Munich
Your philosophy on life: To find a balance between work and sparetime. Work is important but it is equally important to have time to relax and practice your hobbies.
Company: BMW Group Occupation: I’m a Technical Manager, responsible for the cars in the vehicle workshop. In Munich I lead a team of eleven mechanics and elektrics. What about your job? I started my career as a trainee at BMW. I like my current job but as a Manager I spend a lot of my time in front of the computer and in meetings. This is of course important but sometimes I wish that I had more time for the ’normal’ work, i.e the interesting handson job that is done in the workshop. Favourite food: A nice steak and Italian food. If you could choose a super power, what would that be? The ability to heal illness and to make myself and others healthier.
What is important in life: Family and health. To do things that I enjoy, talking to friends and my wife. Spare time activities: I like sports, e.g walking in the mountains and cross skiing. I also enjoy gardening, it is nice and relaxing. The larch tree is my favorite plant - it has beautiful colours that changes during the seasons. What is good in Arjeplog: I like that the BMW facility is well equippet, has a good layout and that we have plenty of space. I also like this area, it is really nice in the winter. I love the ’crunching’ sound of the snow when you walk or drive on it. What could be improved in Arjeplog: It isn’t a big town, so the range of restaurants and entertainment is limited, But on the other hand we are here to do a job and therefore it is not anything that I really miss.
Do you prefer staying at hotels or renting peoples houses? I have never rented a private house but I think that I prefer a room at a hotel. A hotel provides accommodation and services, there is a set table when dining and everything is prepared. I also feel more anonymous at a hotel, which can be both an avantage and a disavantage. The one place that you enjoy the most? To sit and relax on the terrace at my house, watching the sun go down. Someone you admire? Sportsmen/sportswomen - for their discipline. I wish I had the discipline to train that hard myself. Do you have a dream? There are always things that you could wish for - more money, a bigger or new house, new car and so on but to be honest, I am quite satisfied with my life the way it is. The only thing I desire is to take part in more sports activities. What’s the best thing that you learned from your parents? Honesty!
Your dream car: BMW M4

He made his hobby into buisness continued from page 1
Photographer Andreas Mau.
– I like my work as a caretaker at Kraja and Silverhatten and will only work parttime in my company, he says. Markus think it’s nice to have managed to have made his hobby into a business and is hoping for a lot of interesting engagements in the future.
A genuine Interest for cars made him a car spy There’s a few dozen in the world but in Sweden there is only one professional car spy, and that is photographer Andreas Mau. For the past thirty years Mau has travelled around the world, taking pictures of cars. During the winter test season from December to March, he spends his time in Arjeplog, Arvidsjaur and Slagnäs searching for new and interesting vehicles. The way car spies are seen by the auto industry and its response to them and their work have fundamentally changed during the years. – Back then there was a hostile atmosphere and car spies were often exposed to harassment and violence. On the other hand, there was not as much secrecy and the prototypes were shown more openly. They were often parked outside restaurants and hotels. Which of course made my work easier, Mau says. Today, the situation is different. Car spies are seen as a part of the car testing industry and there is a mutual respect and understanding. The spies have a lot of friends in the business and if they meet at a restaurant or hotel they greet and talk to each other. – We both understand we are equaly useful for the industry and of great importance for both manufacturers and their consumers, he says.

The development of internet has also changed his working terms. On the world wide web pictures circulate so quickly and are therefore not as newsworthy as they used to be, the life of the images becomes shorter and shorter. – Everyone has cameras on their phones, which means amateurs can take images they basically give away for the fun of being published. When asked in the end if this is a future profession he laughs. – Oh no, we are probably the last generation. But I still love my job and hope I can keep doing this until I retire. It’s as fun as it used to be and I really appreciate to meet everyone each new season. The cartesters, the guards, the managers, everyone I know in the business.
Andreas Mau has worked around the world for the past thirty years, taking pictures of cars. Photo: Robert A Sandseth.
A lot of technique and electronics.
Aerial photo is a special field that is surrounded by a heavy and strictly regulated framework. Markus has been grappling tenaciously with the swedish authorities and after a lot of paperwork and many it’s and but’s he got all the authorisations and insurances he needed.

Agneta Carlman, 61
Store manager
Systembolaget
This week’s local Family: Three children, six granddchildren and two bonus granddchildren. Home: Kolmis - 7 km from Arjeplog. I love my home and the place where my house is situated. It is surrounded by beautiful nature, on one side there is a lake, in another a bog where cloudberries grow, and in the third there’s a forest. Occupation: I am a Store Manager at Systembolaget in Arjeplog. What about your job? I really enjoy my work and the contact with our customers, that’s the reason why I’ve been working there for 30 years. I work for a good employer, the way they organize the work and their values. We also do a lot of work to prevent the misuse of alcohol and to inform about the harmful effects caused by it. Favourite food: Potato Dumplings (palt) and fried, thinly sliced reindeer meet (renskav). I guess those who know me would also say sausage sandwich and hot chocolate.

If you could choose a super power, what would that be? Strength and energy to climb all ten mountains in the ’Top of Arjeplog’ challenge. Last summer I didn’t manage to climb them all, some were too tough for me.
Your dream car: An off-road vehicle of any kind. It would be a perfect car to own when living in this municipality, e.g when driving around narrow roads to get to a mountain that I can climb or just to look at the beautiful scenery in hope of spotting some wild animals. Present car: I got a Hyundai Sonata - a car that I am very happy with. Spare time activities: I spend a lot of time with my grandchildren. I sing in a choir, Mariakören, and I also spend a lot of my time at the Sports centre, as I am engaged in the floor ball Association of Arjeplog, Argentum 91. What is good in Arjeplog: The people and the fact that they are so open minded. The one place that you enjoy the most? Kolmis and Merkenäs - where I have my caravan. Merkenäs is located along the Silver
road, near the Norwegian border. Someone you admire? People who make efforts to help others, people affected by crisis, like Médecins Sans Frontiers (Läkare Utan Gränser). Do you have a dream? To help others, to join an organization such as the Red Cross, where I can be able to make a difference. I have planned to retire at the age of 63, which will give me the opportunity to realise my dream. What have you lerned from your parents? Three things 1) To do your duty, no one else should have to do my job. 2) To meet new people, but not to judge them by their appearence - you can’t judge a book by its cover. 3) To work in an organised and methodical way, no one has taught me so much about cleaning as my mom. What have you learned your children? To always do their duty. Being open and welcoming to people. Your philosophy of life: More heart than brains which is my essential nature that has influenced my life - for better or for worse. What is important in life: Family and health.
