Markus Schnuer, BMW Group, manager for the BMW facility in Arjeplog and doctor Angelika KnöllDietz, specialist of occupational medicine and surgery,, BMW Group. ’If an accident should happen, the first moments are critical, so the long distances and reduced resources in health care really worry us’, says Angelika Knöll-Dietz.
A safe and efficient healthcare Since the county council decided to cut down on health-care services in Arjeplog, the vehicle test industry has been worried and has tried to improve the situation. Last year in March they had a first meeting to discuss the situation, there it was decided that another meeting, with key participants in both health care and vehicle test business was needed. That meeting was held this week, on Tuesday. With the purpose to show the resources and expertise there is at the health centers in Arjeplog and arvidsjaur. – It also gave us an opportunity to talk about how primary and emergency care in rural areas work.
In order to meet and secure vehicle testing industry, but also to create a dialogue so all parties had the opportunity to give their opinion and thoughts, says Anna Kaltenegger, chief administrator of the healthcare facilities in Arjeplog and Arvidsjaur. For nurses that work in our health care facilities, where doctors are available but not always on the spot, it is important to be able to make their own thorough and systematic assessment – Yes, it is important to enable faster and safer priorities and that is one of the areas
of expertise that we will prioritize in the future, says Kaltenegger.

Josef Fransson and Simon Robertsson warming themselves by the fire.
Sorsele winter tracks is the name of a new company that recently started. As the name says it is a company that will be active in Sorsele. It is Josef Fransson that have started a new business, to complement the activities he already has - a tow truck, haulage contractor business, construction company, workshop and a car dismantling. – I’ve seen that preparing ice tracks in the beginning of the winter can be both hard and dangerous because of the weather. My corporate idea is to offer ice tracks on land instead. In that way I can do my tracks regardless of the whether and if it has been cold enough. Ice tracks on land also gives me opportunitys to offer a significantly extended test season, Josef says. He has also rented the road and the cabin at the top of the mountain Nalovardo, in
order to use for event activities. – It is an amazing view on top of the mountain and I can offer a lot of different event activities, based on what the customers want. Hikes, fishing tours, snowmobile rental, northern lights tours, moose safaris, and so on, the possibilities are endless, says the young entrepreneur. At the moment Josef has a couple of demo tracks, a handling course, 1,7 km long, a cirkular track - 150 meters in diameter, and a
straight track - 800 meters long. – My idea is also to be flexible which means that any time during the season I can easily change the tracks if the customers want another type or size. He is looking forward to this winter season. – I belive in my location, it’s close to both Arvidsjaur and Lycksele airport and you also have the Inlandsbanan close by, and it feels really exciting to get to know new customers.

tittle tattle In Arjeplog there are plenty of guest beds, at hotels, campsites and guesthouses. If all of the inhabitants in Arjeplog would get the idea to sleep in a hotel, at the same night - 95 % of them would get a bed.
There are 51 Sami villages in Sweden, in Arjeplog there is six. Arjeplog has a long tradition of entrepreneurship. Statistic shows that as much as 14.4 % of the population in Arjeplog have their own business. The average in Sweden is 10.4%.
...fascinating facts about Arjeplog, found on Facebook: www.facebook. com/arjeplogskommun
Arjeplog is known for its beautiful nature, therefore perhaps not surprising that we has one national park and twenty eight nature reserves in the municipality. Moreover, one of the reserves is the largest in Sweden.
The record for cold weather in Sweden was exceeded 2 of February 1966, in the small village Vuoggatjålme in Arjeplog: minus fifty-two point six degrees. The high school in Arjeplog, Hornavanskolan, has since the beginning in 1993, had students from all of Sweden’s 21 counties.
When people from Arjeplog talks about ’eating out’ they do not mean that they should go to a restaurant - in Arjeplog that means eating outdoors.

er
This week’s local Age: 52 Family: Three sons, three grandchildren and two dogs. Home: I live in Arjeplog. Originally I’m from Bodö in Norway but moved here 15 years ago. What is good in Arjeplog: I moved here because of love, and I didn’t intend to stay longer than a year. I am a typical city girl and living in a small town didn’t attract me at all. But Arjeplog grew on me, and when the relationship ended I stayed. Today I wouldn’t like to live anywhere else and I appreciate the nice and friendly people here a lot. What about your job: I am responsible for all lodge booking at Silver Resort. I do a lot of other things aswell, and my job is to ensure that all our guests are as satisfied as possible and make sure they have everything they need. I really enjoy my work, it is very unpredictable and therefore I never know what will happen, not one day is like the other. If you could choose a super power, what would that be: I’ve been a massive animal lover since birth,
particularly dogs and horses. Therefore I would choose the ability to get humanity to be kind to animals, to always treat them well. Spare time activities: I spend all my spare time with my family and dogs. The one place that you enjoy the most: Åsarna, a place a couple of km from Arjeplog, on the way to Galtis. It is a peaceful place where I meditate and get in deeper contact with myself. There I can sense souls that have lived before. Tell us something about yourself that you don’t think people know: I am an overprotective mother. I am very occupied with my children, and sometimes I care too much. And that I am psychic, which means I have the ability to link to different sensory worlds and convey communication and messages between the different worlds. A gift that has passed down for several generations. Do you have a dream: Honestly, hand on heart - I don’t. There isn’t anything specific I’d like to do that I haven’t already done, and I feel in peace with myself and my life, my childern and grandchildren. I am exactly where I’m supposed to be and I am most 4
grateful for all the good in my life. What have you learned from your parents: From my father I’ve learned to work hard and be proud of my efforts and my mother taught me care and love for the family. What have you learned your children: To be honest and to keep your promises. I have also tried to show them that I love them for who the are - not what they do. What is important in life: Live in the present. Life is not infinite, so enjoy it. Be grateful for every day in your life, and be grateful for the good things you have in it. Do you have someone you admire: Yes, Tina Turner. For everything she has been through and yet she managed so well, and she seems to be a strong and satisfied person. Your favorite moment in the last three months: My son’s 30’th birtday. Nowadays it’s unusual that we gather with the whole family. But this day we were and we had the most amazing day. All my three sons and their families. We socialized, ate good food and went to the lake Uddjaur with Laponie Ice driving. A fantastic weekend.
ICE TRACKS ON LAND EXTENDS YOUR SEASON We provide all types of ice tracks on land for a variety of vehicles during the wintertest season. Not depending on the conditions of the lakes gives us the posibillity to extend the season, if needed. We can serve your company in all kinds of matters, on demand.

The amazing Iglootel They had their opening party and now Iglootel has officially opened. It is the second year that the hotel is built, in cooperation with the Silver resort. This stunning creation made of 35000 cubic meters of snow that majestically stands on the campsite Kraja in Arjeplog. It is impossible not to feel humbled when thinking of all the work and effort that so many people during so many weeks have accomplished to build it. The cold combined with art covering the walls in the igloos together with fascinating lightening helps to create a very special atmosphere. All art and decorations in the iglootel are based on the theme ’the arctic people and the 21st century’. There is also a clear link to the sami culture. At the entrance you’ll find a special detail, a sami shoe lace frozen into an ice block that reaches up to the ceiling.

Michel Fender, Flycar, Daniel Knab, Iglootel and Johan Sund, Silver Resort.
A large number of reindeers are killed in traffic every year.
How to avoid wildlife collisions Reducing speed is the best way to avoid wildlife collisions. The reindeer herders in the area are concerned about the large number of reindeers killed in traffic every year. The sami community feel they have a good cooperation with the vehicle testing industry and say that most test drivers behave in an exemplary manner.
This week there was a wedding in the Iglootel, unfortunately the couple from Belgium didnt have all their papers in order but they wanted to get married anyway. So the bride conquered the cold and entered the ice hotel in bridal dress and high heeled shoes - and got her prince.
Despite this the fact that the traffic significantly increases during the test season cannot be ignored. Anders Erling Fjällås, chairman of the Semisjaur Njarg Sami community, can give some information about the situation of reindeers in traffic and ways to avoid collisions: • Number one is to decrease your speed and to pay attention. Reindeers are herd animals, so if there is one there will most probably be more in the same area. • Reindeers often abruptly throw aside when stressed in traffic, so dont try to out run them. Pass them slowly and calmly instead of getting passed them as fast as possible. • If you see black plastic bags along the way, decrease your speed. Its a warning sign from the herders to tell motorists that there’s reindeers in the area. • If you by accident happen to collide with a reindeer, you have to call the Police. The police will then call the Sami village to tell them about the accident so that they can find the dead or hurt reindeer, to get it from the road- to avoid more accidents - or if necessary kill it to avoid suffering. • If you collide with a reindeer, mark the reindeer and the place - then it will be much easier to find the dead or hurt reindeer. – Last year a car tester killed a reindeer and before he left the site he called the police and marked the reindeer with a reflective vest he had in his car. That is exactly what you should do, concludes Anders Erling Fjällås. 7
The Hot Seat
Gábor Oláh, 32 Vehicle engineer, Knorr-Bremse Spare time activities: I like to swim and other sport activities because I think it’s important to stay healthy. I also like to go to places were I can feel close to nature, or eat at nice restaurants.
Family: My girlfriend, Kata. Home: Budapest, Hungary.
What is good in Arjeplog: The nature and the beautiful landscape and I appreciate the opportunities of seeing wildlife along the roads. I also like to walk at the Vaukaselet - I just wish it was possible to do something so it would be easier to walk there during wintertime.
Company: Knorr-Bremse What about your job: I am a vehicle engineer and work with stability control systems for heavy trailers at the vehicle test department. Every time we do tests we measure vehicle dynamics in different ways, which makes my job so exciting.
The one place you most enjoy being: To be at the lake Balaton, the largest lake in Hungary, one hour car trip from Budapest. You can swim and relax there, and it is really beautiful. I’ve been there my whole life from time to time, both with family and friends.
Favourite food: Goulash soup - the Hungarian national dish.
A trip that you would like to do: Visiting Iceland. Seems to be a fascinating country with their geysers and volcanoes.
If you could choose a super power, what would that be: The ability to keep my youth. It would be nice to stay young as long as possible, never to lose the strength and health in both body and mind. I am a bit afraid of getting old.
What’s the best thing you learned from your parents: Endurance - that you sometimes have to work hard to reach your goal.
Present car and your dream car: I have a Skoda SuperB V6 TDI but I would like a more comfortable, silent and powerful car like a Mercedes-Benz, S-class
Tell us something about yourself that you don’t think people know: I always try to be perfect, which can be a little bit annoying sometimes. I’m afraid of mistakes, always try to do my best and check everything twice. I try to relax and not worry to much about it, but it can be hard to shake off that feeling .
What’s important in life: To enjoy what you are doing - sometimes you have to try harder (he says laughing) and find a balance between work and sparetime.

Pike fishing
-an extraordinary experience! If you have the slightest interest in fishing - you have to come to Arjeplog in summer. You can come for the experience of great perch fishing in the lake of Uddjaur. But if you want an extraordinary fishing experience - you must try the exciting pike fishing. It is a fun fish to try and catch, it is strong and doesn’t give up easily. According to Göran Kullbrandt, at GK ’s fishing shop in Arjeplog, pike fishing is the biggest thing that happened in sport fishing in a long time. – More and more fishing enthusiasts start to see the value of the pike and the municipality of Arjeplog isn’t only ranked as one of Sweden’s best fishing areas, it is also ranked as one of Sweden’s best pike areas. If you don’t want to, you don’t even have to leave the centre of Arjeplog to catch the big ones. In the area of Kraja and the currents around it’s not unusual to catch pikes over a meter long and with a weight of around ten kilo. The possibilities of fishing in the municipality of Arjeplog are almost endless. It depends on what fish you want and the type of nature you want to experience. For more information about fishing - ask a local, visit GK’s fishing store, located at Storgatan in Arjeplog, Granns Hardware shop or the Tourist Office or contact one of the youths in Arjeplog, known to be catching the really big pikes who is even Swedish champion in pike fishing, Niklas Hallnor at Nicklas_hallnor@hotmail.com - to get some fishing tips. 9

After the meeting the participants seemed pleased to have had the opportunity to meet and discuss these issues. Sture Lestander, SPGA, one of the initiators, summarized the day. – We have had constructive discussions and I think everyone has gained more understanding of rural health care and in special the conditions nurses are dealing with in these areas. They are skilled and experienced beyond the ordinary, which is reassuring to know, he says. The last word is not yet said, and the health care in Arjeplog will certainly continue to

– My heart lies in Arjeplog, and as a local it feels good that the test industry and the locals can work together for a common goal -
