A portable micro filling station for hydrogen
The race to develop the car of the future, a green car, has intensified and the days of the combustion engine appear to be numbered. As a result, hydrogen and fuel cells have long been a matter of prime interest for Metacon AB and its owner Kurt Dahlberg. He has succeeded in producing a micro filling station for hydrogen, intended to be used locally for test operations in cold climates, in cooperation with Alf Sundström and Cartest AB.
The station is based on a model used on the Japanese market and many of the parts are sourced there. The most important part is the so called dispenser which fills the car. It was originally designed for rescue vehicles on highways. - This is the first outside Japan, I have assumed their prototype and then made my own solutions to get it together, says Kurt Dahlberg. He has spent the last couple of years trying to convince Alf Sundström that hydrogen is the future and worthy of investment. Alf says he was skeptical at first but was open to new ideas and new thinking. – Recognizing the need and business potential, changing my mind was not difficult, he says.
Hydrogen stations are available in stationary form in three other places in Sweden, Malmö, Göteborg and Stockholm. Dahlberg and Sundström have in a short time managed to build a hydrogen filling station which

is small, mobile and easily placed on a trailer for quick relocation. This is quite an achievement for our local entrepeneurs. – If someone had said to me that we would have a complete and functional mini refuelling station within six months, I would not have believed them. A mixture of perseverance, determination and pig-headedness have led to our success. I now eagerly anticipate where our team will take us in the future, says Sundström. Their goal for the foreseeable future is to develop a permanent hydrogen refuelling station, which will be powered by methane gas. Arjeplogs Shire has said they are willing to assist in the venture by supplying fuel (sewage) to the biogas plant. - I have no answers but I strongly believe in this. Fuel cells are the future. The hydrogen is refueled in a few minutes and five kg of gas takes the car 505-700 km and the only emission produced is water vapor, says Kurt.

This week’s local Family: My four sons, 15, 20, 24, 25 and their partners and two grandchildren.
my old car but would certainly take people by surprise.
Home: I live in Arjeplog. I like it here, I feel safe, I know people and I have my relatives and friends here.
The one place that you enjoy the most: Galtisjaur, where I have my cottage. It’s the village where my father grew up. I’ve been there a lot since I was a child spending time with my grandparents. My grandfather taught me a lot, for example how to net fish and how to row a boat. Knowledge that I have passed down to my sons. I feel at home and relaxed in Galtisjaur.
What about your job: I am a bus driver. When I was young and took my bus license I didn’t do it because I wanted to be a bus driver. It was just kind of handy to have. But now, when I am, I like it and I rather drive the bus than a truck. I get the chance to meet a lot of people, both through the business and all the passengers. It’s the social part of the job I like. Favourite food: Undoubtedly meat soap. I’ve loved it since I was a little boy. I have a five liter pot, in which I make it in two steps. The first day I boil the meat, a lot of meat, and the second day I boil it with the vegetables and the dumplings. Spare time activities: Engines have always been a large part of my life, cross motor cycles, cars and snow mobiles. Present car and your dream car: I have an old Volvo 740 from 1988. I have no particular dream car but I’ve always told my youngest son that if I won the lottery I would put a T5 Volvo engine in my old Volvo. It’s a straight five cylinder turbo charged petrol engine with 8-900 hk. It would still look like
Do you have a dream: Yes, I have always dreamed of flying helicopters, it would have been great to be able to do so. But it’s a dream that was meant to be just that, a dream. If I had really wanted to, I could have realized it. But I’m happy to tell you that my second youngest son is training to be a helicopter mechanic with the goal of becoming a pilot. He is a determined young man so he will most probably fulfill his own and my old dream. What have you learned from your parents: My father always let us spend time with him, my two brothers and me - it was a way of learning. Sometimes we watched him doing things and other times he let us try, showing us how it was supposed to be done. Both ways helped us learn. I have tried to do the same with my sons and hope they will also do so with their children.
2
What is important in life: The most important for me right now are my boys and my grandchildren. That they are fine and have a good life. Do you have a special skill: I’m practical, good at building, repearing things. I know a little of everything and have had a lot of different jobs during my life. It’s nice to see that all my sons have inherited my practical ability. Do you have a philosophy of life: I am a positive person and hope that problems will work themselves out in the end, even though the gut feeling may say otherwise at the time. Being positive makes life easier.
Ove is a Yamaha fanatic and has been faithful to the brand over the years. He tells us that when he grew up there were always snow mobile competitions amoungst the youngsters. It was Yamaha vs SkiDoo. The boys on his street all had Yamahas and so it became like a religion for him to always drive a Yamaha.

! g o l p je r A t is l t e k Buc Boat and chopper tour Do you want to experience something really different this summer?! Then you must take the boat and chopper tour with the ‘Fjällflygarna’, a company which operates out of a little village called Adolfström. The trip begins with a helicopter ride to a mountain called Tjäksa. From there you have stunning views of the surrounding mountains and the magnificent Laisdalen Valley. A pleasant six km downhill hike then takes you through magnificent wilderness to a little inn in Bäverholmen. Eat local delicacies such as fish, moose and reindeer, as part of your moderately priced
all inclusive package. The trip concludes with a boat trip back to your car over the lake Yraft. It is an approximately four hour long round trip and is highly recommended. You must book in advance. A camera is a must and a snack isn’t such a bad idea. It’s never wrong to ’sit a spell’ to enjoy the surroundings. The peace and quiet is deafening. 3

They work with two different scenarios a) That it’s a person who has traveled to northern Sweden to live in the nature, b) That the man is a confused perpetrator. The local police wants to stop the vandalism and insecurity he created and tries to find him and get him out of the country. They hope that he has left the area or that he will emerge when the spring season starts and more people move around in the mountains.
Arjeplog this summer. The Swedish Harley Davidson Club have chosen Kraja Camping Grounds for their yearly international meeting.
Car testers that don’t live in hotels often rent a house instead. These houses are mostly privately owned by local families, who only rent out their homes during the winter season. It is therefore important that the houses are cared for and respected as other peoples homes. Due to the extreme cold during winter it is important not to leave windows or doors open. Many houses have water filled radiators and pipes which may freeze. We also ask you not to adjust the main settings on the heating system at your rented house, except on the radiators. If there is a problem with the heating, please contact the house owner or the company through which you have rented the house. Neither change the settings on the TV if the channels are not working, contact the agency or the house owner. If you use the landline telephone of the house, please reimberse the house owner by placing money by the telephone, observing the rate for your home country calls. Please remember that all houses and apartments are designated as ’no smoking’. Smoking inside will incur substantial fines. A good thing to know is that we have some of the best quality drinking water in the world, straight from the tap. The quality is comparable to or better than many of the bottled waters found in supermarkets. But finally and most importantly inspite of all the rules, please remember that we are glad to welcome you and you companies into our homes. The test industry is important for this small inland community, and we sincerely wish you welcome.
• Arjeplog hosted this years film festival last
weekend. It’s quite famous in Sweden while relatively small. A large cross section of our community get involved and contribute to the weekends unique experiences. Activities on offer for the film star guests include such things as outdoor hot tubs and snowmobiling. The discussions after the films are also unique. The public get the opportunity to meet and greet the actors, with ample time for reflection as well as question time. Both invited guests and visitors seem pleased with this years festival and are already looking forward to next years production. For those of you who weren’t present for the inauguration but would like to see a little of the stunning show, please scan the qr code with your smartphone.
• A mysterious mountain offender has
eluded the police in Arjeplog during fall and winter. Around fifteen cottages off the beaten track in the mountains have been broken into and vandalised. Interpol is engaged in the case and some tracks are secured as well as DNA. Based on this, the local police suspects it to be a person from Holland who came to the area in September. 4
What’s this? It’s a digital information display, that stands on the side of both roads that enter the town of Arjeplog. A sign with the purpose to inform about what is going on in our local shops, sport events, theaters, lectures, meetings and so on.
• In one of the corridors of the Health care
center in Arjeplog you can find this plaque. It’s a collection of all the fishing lures that the doctors through out the years have removed from unfortunate fishermen’s bodies - from their ears, noses, heads, fingers or where else. (Well...not all.... really good lures are often taken with by the fishermen when they leave the hospital)
Full scaled Arctic Arc prototype is ready for testing Next week is week eight and finally time for the new climate hall to be deployed. The full scale demo model called ‘The Arctic Arc’ will be positioned on the ice on Lake Ullak from week 8 until week 11. ATM is responsible for the demonstration and all associated activities, and are rearing to get the project under way. – Placing signs and the final dimension of the track parts inside the building are what remains to be completed, but everything should be in order to begin testing on Thursday, promises Lars Holmgren, ATM.
The feedback gathered from these tests will be of great help in the design and layout of the final Arc.

inary count for ’guest night 2015’. Arjeplog hosted 7% more guests than previously, equivalent to the national average. Not bad for such a small community. – It’s all thanks to our talented entrepeneurs. We have sufficient accomodation, infrastructure and willing home-stay hosts to recieve even more guests, says our local tourism development ambassador Anna-Lena Le Gascogne, in a press release. More and more people are discovering that the cold and snow arrive early in the season and remain longer. The increase in people is evident in the increased patronage of our ski slopes and mountain facilities. Arjeplog attracts people who love to fish and wander in our beautiful mountain landscape. – We have a wonderful destination and we will continue to invest in tourism, says Anna-Lena.

Family: My girlfriend. Home: I live in Munchen, a wonderful, huge city. I like living there. The city is nice and the people who live there are sociable. It isn’t far from the mountains in the south and there are lakes close by, making it a lovely place to be in summer. And I like to hang out with friends at one of the many Biergartens - where i usually drink an Augustiner, my favorite beer.
Spare time activities: Working on my cars, repairing and restoring them. Barbecuing. Playing music with my band, ’Bandit’. We play covers, rock and oldies mostly from the 70’s. I am also part of a theatre group which is great fun. Our last play was a story about three men whose wives went away for the weekend. What is important in life: To be happy! My hobbies make me happy.
Occupation: I am a vehicle engineer. Every part of the bus is my responsibility. In Arjeplog we test everything, for example if the doors work as they should when it’s cold, how the bus respond to cold starts and so on.
A trip that you would like to take: I would like to go to Sweden and experience Arjeplog in the summer. I want to see this area during another season, with its many lakes and the mountains.
What about your job: I am a car enthusiast but it was a long journey before getting into buses. I have always found it interesting working for vehicle manufacturers. Considering future environmental issues, I thought that the bus industry may be a little more secure but equally interesting.
What is good about Arjeplog: The people are nice, and nothing is ever too much trouble. And I am overwhelmed that everyone speaks such good english. At home you are happy and satisfied if everyone can speak German.
Favourite food: I really like to barbecue doing it year round, but of course mostly during the summer. Pulled pork or ribs are my favourite. This weekend I grilled reindeer meat and it was also delicious. Present car: I have several cars. As I said, I am a car enthusiast. But I like old cars and my favorite amoung the oldies is my arcadian blue Ford Mustang, V8 from 1966. I dont really think I have a dream car but I saw an orange Volvo 142 in Arvidsjaur a couple of days ago. It was a lovely car and I want one, he says with a laugh. 7
What is the best thing you learned from your parents: To be honest! Do you have a dream: To get more cars, more oldtimers! American cars from the 50’s. I like the smell, the look and the sound of the V8 engine. They are anything but boring. My dad has a ranch but no animals, so there is plenty of room for my oldies. The one place that you enjoy the most: My garage. Reparing my cars. Hanging out with friends and watching movies or playing music. I feel at home and relaxed in my garage.
