i “On February 16th, 2011 the government of Curaçao established the “Policy Note Regulation Electricity Provision Curaçao 2011-2015”. This policy document contains the vision and management proposals concerning the electricity provision on our island. With the new electricity policy, the government focuses amongst otherthings on reducing households’ energy usage. A reduction in the usage of electricity creates a financial advantage in the monthly budget of the household. Lesser usage of electricity results in lesser usage of fossil fuels, which are expensive and scarce, for the production of energy. The last mentioned is also advantageous for the environment. As of the month of October thru the month of November, Iya Energia has been giving the community of Curaçao lots of tips and information on how to make use of electricity in a more conscious and effective manner. This will be the jumpstart for the process that will not only enhance people’s awareness, but should on long term also influence their electricity usage and production attitudes. These changes are taking place worldwide. And even though we are a small island, we still form part of the big world. So, we should be working together to conserve the resources which are scarce along with the whole earth for generations to come. Taking this into consideration, the second phase of this publicity campaign, covering sustainable energy, will kick off early in the spring of 2012 and will culminate in an innovative implementation focused conference. At that point much more information will be given concerning sustainable energy, the new regulations on this subject and its benefits for the whole community. In the meanwhile, remember: Sea konsiente; usa ménos koriente!” Iya Energia
