Business Tip Want to Make More Money? Have you ever heard this before. “I sure wish I could make more money.” The fact is that only those who work for the United States Mint actually make money. All the rest of us EARN money by being of value to those we HELP. We EARN money by HELPING other people get what they want. The more we help, the more we earn. The more value we bring to those we help, the more we EARN. This is a huge concept if you are goal setting. If you were to state, “I want to make $10,000 more dollars by December 31st 2014”, what you are saying is that you want to get a job at the US Mint. Hmm—Interesting... My Mom I played hooky and went skiing with my mom. We went on the last Friday Mission Ridge was open for the season. It was sooo much fun. The wind was howling in Ellensburg, a sure sign it is spring, so we were pretty apprehensive about heading up. I am glad we did, it was beautiful, all sun, just a light breeze to keep it cool and perfect spring skiing on corn snow. Mom is a great skier, never making me wait too long for her to catch up no matter how fast I go. Pretty good for someone who was able to vote in the second Eisenhower Presidential election!! This was our second ski trip this year and I consider myself very lucky to have the opportunity to enjoy her company while doing something we both enjoy so much. There is nothing like the conversations that take place on a chair lift. From social commentary on the people on the slopes to reflections on life from the perspective of screwing off on a Friday! I mentioned to her that I had a deeper appreciation of what she and dad must have gone through with us kids as we graduated from college and headed off into the real world now that my daughter Jordan is graduating from WSU this year. She replied that she really didn’t think about us at all, as she was too busy. Huh - well there you go. Just one more thing I learned that day… With Mother’s Day coming up this month, if you are lucky enough to have mom around, don’t just give her a gift or brunch. How about giving her some of your time and attention. Our moms are a precious resource that too often get taken for granted. Go find your own “chair lift” to share with her. Mom’s have a great way of putting things into perspective and no matter how busy you are, isn't this what life is suppose to be about? P.S. Goal Setting Continued

Building on this scale is new to us and we are learning

I have had so many comments regarding the article in January on achieving goals by changing your habits that I have decided to continue the discussion. I am honored to hear that it is being used in your businesses and personal lives. The late Zig Ziglar used to refer to two types of goals, “Give up Goals” and “Get Ahead Goals”. Losing weight would be a give a “Give Up Goal”, increasing your income is an example of a “Get Ahead Goal”. He suggested you tell others all about your give up goals. It psychologically makes them more real to you when you tell others, plus you have the reinforcement of having committed to others what you are going to do. Much harder to wiggle out of something if everyone around you knows of your goal! That is what I did by using my own weight loss as an example in the January Newsletter. Kind of hard to not follow through after telling a few thousand people what you are doing. And for me it worked. I hit my 195 number 15 days later than the goal, but 23 pounds lighter I did it. Zig mentioned to be careful about your “Get Ahead Goals”. You don’t want to seem greedy or pretentious by tell people you have a goal of earning more money, affording a large home or car. These types of goals are best kept to yourself. We will continue or discussion next month by discussing failure. You’ve created your SMART goal with a specific timed end point, and that comes and goes—but the goal isn’t accomplished….. You can read past issues of our newsletter at www.jerrols.com\newsletters. The January issue is where the goal discussion started, with a follow up in the April edition.

Elmview Ellensburg ______________________________

Elmview, a private non-profit organization, was started in 1965 by parents and community members concerned about people with developmental disabilities. Families whose children had grown up in the community banded together to provide organized activities built on the skills learned in school. Churches donated materials and space and soon Elmview was in operation. From those beginnings, in a church basement, Elmview has grown to serve over 325 people in the Kittitas, Yakima, and Chelan/Douglas counties. Vocational, Residential, Crisis, Respite, and in-school services are provided. With support from Elmview staff, people can graduate from high school, live independently, and find and keep jobs. Continued on page 3

Elmview - Continued from page 2 At the core of each service Elmview provides are the organziation’s values. People will be served with respect for individual differences. Services will support people to experience: Individual worth and development Personal power and choice The benefits of relationships with friends, family, and the community Integration of community participation Not only is Elmview one of our Business Clients but our involvement with them goes much further. 1. They have helped us employ many differentlyabled people over the years including one of our most loved and current Team members Mark Richey. While creating meaningful employment opportunities for the Elmview Clients, we have benefited as a business from their perspectives and attitudes that they bring to work. Our Team here at Jerrol’s created one of our seven “Core Values” to demonstrate our commitment to these individuals. It reads ”We believe that all people in our community have something to teach us and contribute to our business.” You can find all seven of Jerrol’s core values at www.Jerrols.CoreValues 2. Elmview helps us collate and process the very newsletter you are reading as well as your monthly statement.

3. Elmview works with the Kittitas School District to provide my son Gerik’s transition training and has provided him with a job training opportunity at their paper recycling center here in Ellensburg. 4. They have provided us with bags and instruction for sorting our waste paper for recycling and pick it up weekly. They have lots of ways you can participate with their mission—from helping with employment to using their existing services like collating projects for mailings.
