Since this is the time of year everyone talks about setting goals and making New Years resolutions, the following has become my annual reprinting of the article I wrote back in 2012 on the subject. I hope you find it useful______________________________________________________
One secret most people don’t want to talk about when it comes to achieving their goals is the fact that most goals are accomplished by creating the right habits. As Vince Zirpoli, a Management Consultant at www.MegaMarketing.com likes to say“Successful people have the discipline to create the habits that allow them to achieve their goals”. After you have created a written SMART goal (more on that on page 3) and start to take the steps to achieve it, you quickly come to realize that what you really need to do is create new and different HABITS. Think about the goal of saving $5,000 in a new savings account to be used on Friday, January 14th, 2015 to invest in a ROTH IRA for your retirement. To accomplish this goal you will need to open a savings account, and put $416.66 in it each month. How are you going to come up with the $416.66? – the only legal ways I know of are to spend less or make more. You can take on extra work by changing your HABITS and investing your time differently, less Facebook, TV, emails ect.. and invest that time into a part time job or extra responsibilities at your current job. You can create the Habit of spending less. A great way to do this is to take a set amount from each paycheck and immediately put it in the new savings account.
Zentangles 102 - Let’s Tangle Saturday, Feb 27th, 10 - 1:30pm $30 per person, two for $50
Habits take DISCIPLINE, DETERMINATION, and PERSISTANCE to accomplish. But like everything in life, if you want a different outcome, you are going to need to do something different. That takes WORK. But you can do it if you take the responsibility to create the Habits that will allow you to achieve your goals.
The Art of Sumi Painting May 2016 Early Enrollment$109 per person, two for $189
Even the process of setting goals is nothing more than creating the habit of thinking it through, getting it in writing and taking the steps to achieve it!!!

S M A R T Goals A common strategy in setting goals is to use the SMART goal framework. Having the right structure in your goal setting makes a huge difference in achieving them. A possible goal would be to lose some weight starting tomorrow. Lets take that goal and look at it using SMART goal structure.
So let’s look at the simple goal to lose some weight starting tomorrow that we started with. It sounds like something you might say on New Years Eve! What if you changed it toI, Rolf Williams, will lose 10 pounds and weigh 185 pounds by Friday, March 20th 2016 so that I can enjoy more spring skiing without having to work so hard hiking up the darn hill.
SMART stands forSpecific– Answer the 4 Why questions: Who, What, Where and When. The more specific and detailed you are the less likely you will fail due to ambiguity. Measurable– Make it something you can measure. Without it being specific, you can’t measure your progress toward it, or know if you have achieved it! See if you can’t give it a number. Make it an objective goal and not a subjective one. So exactly, specifically how much weight? Attainable- Your goal needs to be something you can accomplish. Setting wildly optimistic goals or ones that you are not willing to do the work to accomplish is a recipe for disappointment. If you have never been able to lose weight before, make it 5 pounds in two months. Little steps lead to huge leaps.
The first goal is so vague so you could never tell if you accomplished it or not, and if you think about it, tomorrow never comes so there isn't even a starting point for it. Now an advanced tip - Write it down on paper in your own handwriting and put is somewhere you will see it each day. I like them on my truck visor, but a bathroom mirror would work just as well. Ok... it is up to you. Make sure you create goals for yourself and not others. You can NOT set goals for other people. You CAN help them set their own with your help. Be SMART out there. -Rolf

Winter Art Sale January 5th - 12th
Relevant- Is this really a goal that makes sense for you: Is it worthwhile? Is now the right time? Does it fit to your overall situation? Time Bound- Set an exact date and time that you will accomplish your goal by. There is a lot of power in really thinking this through. Try to close your eyes and visualize the moment you will accomplish your goal. Write down where you are and what you are doing. The more specific and detailed you can be the better your results.

Corrie’s Craft of the Month Get Organized! We had such a wonderful holiday, (I hope you all did too) full of family and fun! But now that it's over I am in the mood to organize. Plus my house could use a bit of a purge in order to fit everything from xmas into place. So I've made these great storage containers. All you need is some cardboard magazine holders, (found at Jerrols) some paint and a sharpie... and the fun begins. After covering the boxes with your favorite color and design they are perfect for holding stuff. The options are endless, from curling irons to ziplock bags to yarn balls. Add a label if you want and enjoy your newly organized space. Happy new year! Corrie Ihrke

A Few Comments From Our Clients “Jerrol's went out of the way to make sure I was able to get what I needed and even set it aside so it would be ready when I came in. This is what hometown service is all about. ” - Cindy Rickey - Rewards Member
“I enjoyed the author signing so much! It was a high light of my weekend! ” - Marianne Gordon - Rewards Member
“During every visit I see your staff greet every customer. When asking for an item, rather than just point to where it is, they take the time to walk the customer to the item. Both of those behaviors demonstrate great customer service.” - Rachel Ketter - Rewards Member
