Since this is the time of year everyone talks about setting goals and making New Years resolutions, the following has become my annual reprinting of the article I wrote back in 2012 on the subject. I hope you find it useful______________________________________________________

One secret most people don’t want to talk about when it comes to achieving their goals is the fact that most goals are accomplished by creating the right habits. As Vince Zirpoli, a Management Consultant at www.MegaMarketing.com likes to say“Successful people have the discipline to create the habits that allow them to achieve their goals”. After you have created a written SMART goal (more on that on page 3) and start to take the steps to achieve it, you quickly come to realize that what you really need to do is create new and different HABITS. Think about the goal of saving $5,000 in a new savings account to be used on Friday, January 14th, 2015 to invest in a ROTH IRA for your retirement. To accomplish this goal you will need to open a savings account, and put $416.66 in it each month. How are you going to come up with the $416.66? – the only legal ways I know of are to spend less or make more. You can take on extra work by changing your HABITS and investing your time differently, less Facebook, TV, emails ect.. and invest that time into a part time job or extra responsibilities at your current job. You can create the Habit of spending less. A great way to do this is to take a set amount from each paycheck and immediately put it in the new savings account. Habits take DISCIPLINE, DETERMINATION, and PERSISTANCE to accomplish. But like everything in life, if you want a different outcome, you are going to need to do something different. That takes WORK. But you can do it if you take the responsibility to create the Habits that will allow you to achieve your goals. Even the process of setting goals is nothing more than creating the habit of thinking it through, getting it in writing and taking the steps to achieve it!!!

S M A R T Goals A common strategy in setting goals is to use the SMART goal framework. Having the right structure in your goal setting makes a huge difference in achieving them. A possible goal would be to lose some weight starting tomorrow. Lets take that goal and look at it using SMART goal structure. SMART stands forSpecific– Answer the 4 Why questions: Who, What, Where and When. The more specific and detailed you are the less likely you will fail due to ambiguity. Measurable– Make it something you can measure. Without it being specific, you can’t measure your progress toward it, or know if you have achieved it! See if you can’t give it a number. Make it an objective goal and not a subjective one. So exactly, specifically how much weight? Attainable- Your goal needs to be something you can accomplish. Setting wildly optimistic goals or ones that you are not willing to do the work to accomplish is a recipe for disappointment. If you have never been able to lose weight before, make it 5 pounds in two months. Little steps lead to huge leaps.

starting tomorrow that we started with. It sounds like something you might say on New Years Eve! What if you changed it toI, Rolf Williams, will lose 10 pounds and weigh 187 pounds by Tuesday, February 28th 2017 so that I can enjoy more spring skiing without having to work so hard hiking up the darn hill. The first goal is so vague so you could never tell if you accomplished it or not, and if you think about it, tomorrow never comes so there isn't even a starting point for it. Now an advanced tip - Write it down on paper in your own handwriting and put is somewhere you will see it each day. I like them on my truck visor, but a bathroom mirror would work just as well. Ok... it is up to you. Make sure you create goals for yourself and not others. You can NOT set goals for other people. You CAN help them set their own with your help. Be SMART out there. -Rolf The previous articles on goal setting are the most commented on I have published to date. We republished them every January.

Relevant- Is this really a goal that makes sense for you:  Is it worthwhile?  Is now the right time?  Does it fit to your overall situation? Time Bound- Set an exact date and time that you will accomplish your goal by. There is a lot of power in really thinking this through. Try to close your eyes and visualize the moment you will accomplish your goal. Write down where you are and what you are doing. The more specific and detailed you can be the better your results. So when do you jump on a scale? Monday mornings after a shower? Then use that as your end time. So let’s look at the simple goal to lose some weight

December Customer Service Champion Announced

Corrie’s Craft of the Month Post It Note Menu Planner

RJ Woods, from Woods Ace Hardware, has been selected as the Customer Service Champion for the month of December. You can read the post about RJ at the website below or on the Kittitas County Customer Service Facebook page.

Come January I am all crafted out. So instead of a "craft" I thought I'd show you a simple way to organize your dinner menu. I know "there's an app for that" but of all the apps I've tried this way is my favorite. Plus my kids can get involved with the planning as well, cuz it's stuck on the fridge and accessible to all. Here's what you'll need: Post It Note Template (I found one online and I will put copies on the craft table) Clip board Post It Notes (I used a couple colors, but you don't have to) Poster Board Washi Tape

RJ received gift cards to both Jerrol’s & Winegar’s as well as a certificate to recognize his accomplishment. This was the sixth month the award was given and we encourage you to submit your nominations and stories about amazing customer service you have received at www.KCCustomerService.com for the next Champion of Customer Service award.

Submit Your Nominations Online at www.KCCustomerService.com

1. Put your template on your clipboard. Label each square with a day of the week, excluding Sunday. (I only plan 6 meals a week and leave Sunday as a freebie for leftovers or going out) Add any meals that you have every week. (I.e. We have breakfast on Mondays and pizza on Fridays) 2. Using Washi Tape attach four more templates to your poster board. 3. Write out your dinners: one per Post It. Try to come up with your most used and favorite go to meals. My goal was to fill up all 36 squares on my poster board. I also listed the main ingredients on each post It. (This helps grocery shopping.) 4. Hang up your poster board and clipboard in the kitchen.

Follow Nominations on the Facebook Page at-

Kittitas County Customer Service

5. Each week grab enough meals from your poster board to fill up your clipboard.

We need you to post stories about great service you receive here in Kittitas County and beyond.

And there you have it. Gone are the days of being stuck in a dinner rut cuz I can't think of anything to have for dinner. Your poster board is equipped with 1 months worth of meals to choose from. I find that to be plenty for our family... you could always add more if you wanted.

Every May, there will be the Best in Customer Service Award Banquet, where the best of the monthly Customer Service Champions from the past year will be recognized and the posts from the past year will be made into a book.

You can also color code your meals with the different post it colors. (Say, yellow is for meals with chicken and pink is for beef.) So many choices, but keep it simple for starters and see if it works for you. Hope you have a wonderful new year.
