Back To School is Just Around the Corner Jerrol’s has always been a strong supporter of our local Schools, Students and Teachers. Lots of stores do “Back To School” once a year. At Jerrol’s we do it 365 days a year!

Expansion UpdateIn July we formally filed our plans with the City of Ellensburg for a building permit. They came back to us with a few requests for clarification and some minor changes.

Those have since been addressed and we are waiting for the final OK and the issuing of our building permit.

We now hope to break ground in August or September.

We will remain open during construction.

Winegars plans to open sometime in January 2015, the Jerrol’s portion of the building, including the new 1000 sq foot meeting room will be put in to service before then.

Our Team has been talking about how we could create our own version of a “Box Tops for Schools” program that would allow you to get the items you need, while supporting your school.

This year when you make your Back to School purchases you will be able to donate 10% of your purchase back to your school.

You will still rely on us to have every schools’ list of supplies and those hard to find items on those lists that you can’t seem to find anywhere else. And now, as a Jerrol’s Rewards Member, you will be able to donate 10% of your purchase total to the Kittitas County school of your choice.

This will be available for any purchase made in the store between August 1st and September 12th. It is good for purchases of school related items including teacher products, backpacks, binders, spirals and such.

Book Reviews At Night We Walk In Circles $27.95 Daniel Alarcon Nelson's father died,his brother Francisco moved to the United States, his girlfriend Ixta is sleeping with another man named Mindo and the only family he has is his mother Monica. Nelson gave up his dream of being a playwright to take care of his mother. Until one day he met the famous playwright of the play The Idiot President Henry Nunez and his friend Patalarga. The pair including Nelson create the Diciembre theater group.

Diciembre traveled around Europe showing their play The Idiot President and the didn't have any contact with any of their family or friends the whole time. While they are on the road they start to pick up pieces of Henry's past including an old dead prison cellmate and lover but with uncovering Henry's past it puts Nelson and Patalarga in danger. Will Nelson come home to his mother safely? Will Henry stay out of jail unlike last time when he made this trip last? Read the book to find out.

The Serpent of Venice $26.99 Christopher Moore I first came across Christopher Moore a few years back while perusing library shelves. The book was Lamb, a book too few people know about. Why, you may ask. The truth of it is that Lamb is the single funniest book I have ever read. Nothing has ever come close to the true laugh out loud, gut wrenching hilarity that that novel engendered. That is, until The Serpent of Venice landed on my desk

one day. I have read or listened to five or six of Moore’s books and while I’ve enjoyed them all immensely and they all had shining moments of comedic brilliance none quite lived up to Lamb. That is, until The Serpent of Venice landed on my desk one day.

The Serpent of Venice is actually a sequel to Fool, and earlier work based on King Lear which introduced the eponymous Pocket, court jester for King Lear. The good news is you can either skip straight to The Serpent of Venice or pick up Fool in paperback.

While Fool was a highly enjoyable read all the major plot points are covered in the sequel so there isn’t any sense of “Why did they do that”. The Serpent of Venice is what happens when you take a great character and great story idea and expand upon it. This time around Pocket inhabits two of Shakespeare’s plays: The Merchant of Venice and Othello. I’m ashamed to admit I have read neither play so I may have missed some references but it didn’t detract from my enjoyment of it at all.

If you are looking for a great read and don’t mind creative language do yourself a favor and pick this one up. I haven’t laughed this hard or consistently throughout an entire novel in many years. Fans of the Bard will appreciate the clever wordplay and readers who like a little fun in their fiction will delight in the prose. This is one of those books that true readers will finish and immediately hand their copy to another reader and simply say, “Just read it”.
