Expansion UpdateAAAAAAAARRRGH!!!!! I would love to tell you the city has signed off on our plans but, I have just returned from a meeting with the building department with a list of minor issues we need to take back to our engineer/architect to revise the drawings (yet again) and clean up some minor typos. The city engineers have also brought up a new concern about a driveway conflict, and a redesign of the of the sidewalk (again). And so it goes on…...again. Our hope at this point is still to be able to complete the project this year, but asphalt becomes a problem after October 15th and we are required to replace both our sidewalks and most of the curbs, which requires asphalt. Don’t get me wring, the city has been good to work with; it all just takes SOOOOO long. Thanks for your support – we need it!
Daughter Jordan called the first Saturday morning in August to let her mom and I know she was engaged. You might recall this is the kid who graduated in 3 years from WSU with a degree in Journalism and zero debt this summer. After finishing her last classes, she continued to work at Northwest Public Radio through the end of July. Her job was to help NPR host Thom Kokenge with the show All Things Considered.
Thom Kokange and Jordan hard at work at Northwest Public Radio on her last day.
Jordan and fiancé After that she Israel showing proof packed up her of their engagement meager college belongs and brought them to a 6 x 6 spot in our garage that her mom and I graciously allowed her to use. Temporarily of course.
Shortly thereafter she traveled on to the oil fields of Williston, North Dakota to visit her long time boy friend Israel Lopez. So... she arrived there sometime after midnight on Friday, August 1st, and was calling us less then 36 hours later to gives us the good news. So I have been telling people that if they know any girls that are looking to get married, tell them to abandon all their possessions and head off to North Dakota!! It worked great for my daughter….. ☺ Now, if she can just find a job in journalism!! -Rolf P.S. Road Rash MARK HUNTLEY PARSONS A teenage drummer finds out what life is really like on tour with a rock band in this funny and bittersweet YA novel. For anyone who loved Almost Famous or This Is Spinal Tap. After being dropped from one band, sixteen-year-old drummer Zach gets a chance to go on tour with a much better band. It feels like sweet redemption, but this is one rocky road trip—filled with jealousy, rivalries, and on-stage meltdowns. Mark Parsons has written a fast-paced, feel-good novel about a boy finding his place in the world, in a band, and in the music. Zach is a character teens will stand up and cheer for as he lands the perfect gig and the perfect girl.
Whistleblower / Superfund ‘99
October 6th 6 - 7:30pm WENDELIN VAN DRAANEN MARK HUNTLEY PARSONS & RONALD SLATER Wendelin Van Draanen is the author of the Sammy Keyes series, the Shrederman books and the novels Flipped and Swear to Howdy. She and her husband Mark Huntley Parsons will be in Ellensburg
RONALD SLATER Saving the river, but losing his job. Keeping the law, but ending his career. This is a true story about my life as a boy stuck between hunger, neglect and abuse. It's also about my career as an operating engineer, helicopter pilot and superintendent for heavy equipment and excavation. But mostly, this story is about screaming a warning so loud that all Americans everywhere, especially in Seattle, hear and heed the truth about hazardous waste Superfund sites and specifically Terminal 18, Harbor Island. It's also about becoming a "whistleblower" and the effects it may have on one's career, health, and income.
