The Verdict
LATEST EVENTS
Welcome to a new year and a new brochure. I can’t start to tell you what a wonderful selection of events we have planned for you. I am delighted that the Opera House will be welcoming Sir Ian McKellen back in May – after 30 years! During his 80th birthday year he will be taking his solo show, Ian McKellen on Stage, to 80 theatres across the country so we are privileged indeed that he chose to include Jersey in this very special tour along with Tolkien, Shakespeare, others… and you! As an extra bonus, Sir Ian will be donating all profits from the show towards the much-needed renovation of our dressing rooms and green room so a very big thank you indeed. The Olivier-nominated duo, Ian Ashpitel and Jonty Stephens, will be taking many of us back to our childhoods with their hugely celebrated West End hit Eric & Little Ern. During

the 1970s families would gather around TVs across the country to enjoy the comedy of this infamous duo. As Ben Elton put it, “I never thought I’d see Morecambe and Wise live – I think I just have!” For something a little different, open your mind to Intuition with Luke Jermay where the mysteries of the mind, divination, telepathy and magic come together. A unique experience that is funny, entertaining, emotional, controversial, uplifting and insightful that you will never forget! No mystery to any amateur sleuth is the draw of a live theatre production to bring the power and engagement of a thriller to the stage. “Outstanding”, “Thrilling”, “Best performance” are just some of the reviews to date for The Verdict, starring Ian Kelsey (Blue Murder, Emmerdale, Doctors, Coronation Street). A stunning courtroom thriller made famous by the

His incredible story of the Little Prince has been retold by Luca Silvestrini, one of the sharpest of comic choreographers, using his company Protein’s award-winning mix
of dance, humour and spoken word. Reconnect with the child within... Vampires Rock, or so I’ve been told! X-factor winner Sam Bailey takes on the role of the Vampire Queen alongside Steve Steinman in this hit musical concert. A spellbinding cast, guitar gods and sexy vampettes take you on a ride through some of the greatest classic rock anthems including Queen, AC/DC, Meat Loaf, Guns n Roses and many more. Don’t miss this revival of Sir Richard Eyre’s dynamic production. Mezzo-soprano Clémentine Margaine plays opera’s ultimate seductress whilst Roberto Alagna returns to the role of Don José, the good-hearted soldier in whom she unleashes an uncontrollable passion. Don José breaks the law, goes to prison, deserts the army and loses everything to be with Carmen. But the capricious gypsy soon tires of him and instead takes up with the bullfighter Escamillo—bass Alexander Vinogradov. AMBASSADOR THEATRE GROUP PRESENTS
IAN MCKELLEN ON STAGE
MAY
FRI 3 - SAT 4
WITH TOLKIEN, SHAKESPEARE, OTHERS…AND YOU! A message from Ian McKellen: I’m celebrating my 80th birthday by touring a new solo show to theatres I know well and a few that I don’t. The show starts with Gandalf and will probably end with an invitation to act with me on stage. In-between there will be anecdotes and acting. I open at my local arts centre in January and end up by August in Orkney. Live theatre has always been thrilling to me, as an actor and in the audience. Growing up in Lancashire, I was grateful to those companies who toured beyond London and I’ve always enjoyed repaying that debt by touring up and down the country myself, with the RSC, the National Theatre, Prospect Theatre, the Actors’ Company, as well as with commercial productions. I was last at the Opera House with “Acting Shakespeare” 30 years ago I’m delighted to be back. All profits
will contribute to the renovation of the dressing rooms and green room. See you there, I hope! Ambassador Theatre Group’s Executive Producer Adam Speers says:
“
...this special show is a rare and excellent opportunity to celebrate what’s best in our industry while at the same time celebrating one of its greatest actors and raising vital funds to keep the lifeblood of theatre in this country flowing

DRAMA CLASSES
SAT 12 JAN - SAT 30 MAR
OH! DRAMA
Exciting news! The children’s drama classes have undertaken a revamp in their sixth year and are now called OH! DRAMA. Still run by the lovely Sarah and Louise the course now comes under the banner of Jersey Opera House with an ‘end of year’ production taking place on the main stage – yay! This means that the focus can be on building up the children’s dramatic technique so they get the most out of their experience of performing in this beautiful theatre. Sarah and Louise will continue to work with all children in a fully inclusive environment and embrace diversity and difference whilst
focussing on what makes each child shine uniquely. Drama helps children to use their imagination and creativity whilst building important social skills.
