WITH TOLKIEN, SHAKESPEARE, OTHERS…AND YOU! A message from Ian McKellen: I’m celebrating my 80th birthday by touring a new solo show to theatres I know well and a few that I don’t. I open at my local arts centre in January and end up by August in Orkney.

Live theatre has always been thrilling to me, as an actor and in the audience. Growing up in Lancashire, I was grateful to those companies who toured beyond London and I’ve always enjoyed repaying that debt by touring up and down the country myself, with the RSC, the National Theatre, Prospect Theatre, the Actors’ Company, as well as with commercial productions. I was last at the Opera House with “Acting Shakespeare” 30 years ago I’m delighted to be back. All profits will contribute to the renovation of the dressing rooms and green room. This academic talk, citing statistics, research and brain scans, will go beyond the basics and will expand the audience’s knowledge and understanding of the condition. What’s the difference between a Sociopath and a Psychopath? Can psychopaths cheat lie detectors? Is it true they cannot be treated? It’s believed that psychopaths make up 1% of the general population, yet they account for up to 25% of the US male prison population (Hare, 2003). Consequently, the majority of this talk will focus on the link between the condition and criminal behaviour. However, 30

Jennifer will discuss and address the hotly-debated concept of the ‘Good Psychopath’. Do they exist? Can you guess which professions have a high prevalence for psychopaths? Jennifer will discuss fascinating facts about the condition which have not made it into mainstream media, as well as giving an in-depth look at the neuroscience of the disorder. The talk will also explore the phenomenon in relation to ‘psychopathic’ children: how early do the signs emerge?

A new dark comedy by Neil Salvage, with live music. A party celebrates Johannes Brahms’ Violin Concerto’s first performance. His friends are all there – loyal Herzogenberg, embittered Clara Schumann, waspish critic Hanslick. The evening unfolds in a series of passionate recriminations and farcical misunderstandings until its moving climax. Laughing through our tears we ask – what is the cost of art? 32

One time I bought a lasagne from the supermarket, heated it up in the oven and ate a bit of it and it wasn’t very nice so I put it in the fridge because it felt wrong to dump a whole lasagne in the bin and then later on I ate a spoonful of the cold lasagne because I was drunk and it was absolutely delicious. It was 4am. I then changed the name of a WhatsApp I was a part of to COLD LASAGNE HATE MYSELF 1999 because I had been thinking a lot
about how 1999 was the best year of my life and also about how much I hate myself sometimes. The next day I was asked to name my new show. Come along. Age restriction 14+
