THE PSYCHOLOGY OF SERIAL KILLERS
Learn about serial killers you’ve never heard of before as Jennifer Rees explores one of forensic psychology’s most troubling topics. This is an academic talk which will draw on brain scans, medical records, journal papers, statistics and case studies to provide even the most avid true crime or forensic psychology fan with deeper understanding of the phenomenon. During this talk, you will discover how serial killers are classified. What are the differences between Lust killers like the BTK (Bind, Torture, Kill) Killer, and Visionary killers such as David Berkowitz (Son of Sam)? Jennifer will also debunk common serial killer myths – you may be surprised by what you learn! Jennifer will use statistical profiling to explore the truth behind the commonly-cited profile of a serial killer as being a white male in his mid-to-late twenties. How common are homicidal fantasies? Have you ever fantasised about killing someone? You may be surprised by the results of the research!
JANUARY
FRI 24
Why do women fall in love with known serial killers? Jennifer will discuss the clinical knowledge surrounding why serial killers gain admirers, fan mail, and even spouses in light of their atrocious crimes. You will also investigate the phenomenon of killer couples such as Fred and Rose West and The Moors Murderers Ian Brady and Myra Hindley, as well exploring the Folie à deux syndrome, a.k.a ‘shared psychosis’. Jennifer will also explain to you why you’re so fascinated by serial killers! Talk not appropriate for under 18’s.

THE IT
BY VIVIENNE FRANZMANN THE IT is a play about a teenage girl who has something growing inside her. She doesn’t know what it is, but she knows it’s not a baby. It has claws. She feels them. Does it have teeth, skin, and hair as well, or is that feathers, or spikes she can feel, butting up against her organs? What is it? It makes a noise, like a lizard or a snake. No one must know about it. She has to keep its presence, its possession of her, concealed. She pulls away from her friends. She refuses to speak in case The It is heard. Then the It tries to escape from her body. She can’t let that happen. She cuts an isolated weird figure at school, trying to live her life normally; but battling to keep The It inside. But she can’t contain It forever, sooner or later something’s got to give... Presented in the style of a direct to camera documentary, this is a darkly comic state of the nation play exploring adolescent mental health and the rage within, written very specifically for today.
