04 MLE COLLABORATION REFLECTION :

Abstract During this pandemic, health and well-being topics are the talks of the town. For the past few years, all kinds of sickness and diseases are gradually increasing yearly in Malaysia and now the coronavirus had been added to the list which is causing the death rate in Malaysia to rise quickly. This issue is worried by many and so, for this project, we are split into different ministries to create and develop concept ideas representing the allegory of the issue and interpret the findings into narrative representation. I was assigned to the Ministry of Health and Well-being, we were asked to do research on trending issues/sickness/diseases as a problem statement as a guideline throughout our project. In a group of 6, we each selected the Top 6 sicknesses in Malaysia and split accordingly. I was assigned to Lung related sicknesses like Pneumonia, COPD, Asthma, etc. After the research, we were given a task to create an object & office space for our selected client.

Stay tuned to see what I've created----

Project 1 : NARRATIVE PROGRAMMING – ‘WORK-PLAY’ We are required to each design and create an Object that would be placed on the GF of our office building where users can interact with the object. The given space is 3m x 3m

t n e m e t a t S n g i s De Lung Foundation Of Malaysia(LFOM) is a place provided for doctors, researchers, patients, elderly, adults, children & students to learn more about lungs. This office consists of two different routes which serve a different purpose, Route-1 ( Serious Route ), you will be able to book yourself a one-to-one consultation slot and have a private session in the consultation pods provided. There are also standing consultation desk stations if you want a more casual approach during your appointment. During the consultation, if any discussion is taken place, you can head on to the ideation wall which allows you to scribble and list out your discussion on the wall. Route-2 ( Fun Route ), through this route you can experience different fun activities which help us to improve our lung condition. In the activity area, there is a bouncing net flooring that enables users to hop on the net to release essential oil scents which are scientifically proven to provide benefits to our lungs such as avoiding inflammation of the lungs and improving breathing issues. Besides, there is a hydroponic planting pod wall to encourage indoor plantation as it freshens and improves the indoor air quality. There is also a convertible table that works as an ideation board after turning it, as stated, LFOM is a foundation that encourages discussion and planning for more interesting and beneficial activities to help and serve people with lung issues in Malaysia which leads to the next space, the main event hall, the center of this office. In this event hall, it is a layered step sitting platform that allows users to sit and socialize with others comfortably when joining for a talk/workshop or any charity events being held. The back part of the office is the main work area, meeting area, and pantry for the workers of LFOM. The whole concept of the layout is inspired by lungs, 2 bronchus= 2 routes= 2 usages, besides that, I also incorporated an open office plan to ensure every space is connected and to avoid workers or users from feeling congested in a small area. Colors, materials, and step layering are used to differentiate and compliment each space. Structural elements such as PVC pipes, metal bars, etc are used to connect all the spaces like the veins in our lungs. The overall materials are wood, concrete, carpet, metal which gives out an industrial modern look.

REFLECTION MULTIPLE LEARNING EXPEREIENCE (MLE) My 14 weeks journey MLE collaboration with BAT & BQS students

Flip to see my feedback ----

My reflection... "Roller-coaster". That's the best description I could come up with if someone were to ask about my thoughts on my MLE experience. Like how a roller-coaster ride is being built, it will make the riders feel anxious, happy, thrilled, worried, scared, doubt, etc, but one thing for sure after every ride there's a smile on our face. The journey throughout my MLE experience was not smooth at all and I felt like that was the beauty of this learning process, learning from mistakes and dealing with all kinds of people throughout this collaboration. One main struggle that I believe most of us face is communication issue as there are 3 different groups of student groups involved BAT (Architecture), BQS (Quantity Surveyor) & BIA (Interior Architecture), all 3 of us have our own classes to attend daily, assignments & projects to rush on a different timeline, so it was quite hard to find time for discussion regularly but we at least will try to meet 1 time every week to update on progress works or have a discussion if there are some feedback needed. Another issue I faced would be regarding workload balance, as mentioned, this project invloves 3 groups of students and so each group must manage their workflow properly so that the next group gets to continue what is needed to be done on their part, this had taught me to manage my time properly and know how to balance my assignment & group assignments to avoid late submission for the next group. If I could improve one thing from my expereience, it would be regarding communication. Based on my experience, some people are shy or introvert, so they tend to stay silence throughout all the discussion, so I hope there are some ice-breaking games prepared by the lecturers to let us all know our group members more and have some warm up session to build our relationship before we start the project and get to know one another, beacause up till now, I only know less than 5 people from my BQS & BAT team eventhough all together there are around 23 of us, as usually only leaders are involve in disccusion and others remained silence even if we asked everyone to share their thoughts. Communication is very important throughout this project, so I hope this could be implemented at least we all could get to know one another and know everyone in the group in a fun and warm way before we start the project. But overall I would say I am satisfied with the collaboration despite the ups and downs, everything is a learning process and I am glad I had the opportunity to be part of this fun ride. If I had the chace to recommend friends from other schools, I would, this is a once in a lifetime experience and a chance for us to brush up our communication, ideation, and collaboration skills with other students from different fields before we enter the industry, so this is a very good chance for us to get a glimpse on how it is gonna be like in the industry. Struggle teaches you a lot of things, and I am happy that I witnessed a roller coaster ride. This MLE journey has improved me as a person and made me more mature as a student, designer & a future interior architect.

This video is a 100 second video compilation of my 14 weeks journey of Multiple Learning Experience (MLE) with BAT & BQS friends to complete our project. The video involves short footages of us having discussion on different platforms such as zoom, discord , miro etc. and some progress work videos on how our project develop.
