HELLO!

I’m Jesslyn Ariesta Johan, you can call me JAJ. I love Branding, Typography, and Packaging with strong and new concept. I enjoy working in a team and willing to learn something new. This is my por tfolio that I made before I graduated from my Graphic Deisgn BTEC HND program in U IC Design. My por tfolio book is consisted of my works and personal projects that showcased my strengths and design style. The stationer y and por tfolio book concept is about DN A. I used DN A because ever ybody has DN A but different. Just like me, I’m just a ‘graphic designer ’ but I’m ‘different’. DN A is ver y impor tant and help people to know the identity. I also want to be an ‘impor tant’ graphic designer and become a problem solver, just like a purpose of graphic designer.

Drawing Technique Black and White Image Mr. Angga Gumay

Charcoal is about black and white drawing. The challege is we have to make it looks like the reference an d belivable. I chose this man and edited (high contrast) in photoshop to help me finish this project easier. Sometimes should be patient to use charcoal because it can be a magic and sometimes it can be a disaster in a paper. This man looks mysterious because of his pokerface. I like this artwork because I can feel the depth of field of this image, even though it just 2D.

Introduction to Digital Design Stamp Mr. Emanuel Pratalaharja

Cathedral is one of popular churchs in Jakarta. We can say it as a landmark too. Landmark is something (building-mostly) that help people to know where he/she is and find their destination. In this project i learn how to use Adobe Illustrator, tracing more precisely. Cathedral Church image challenged me to trace this image very neat because there are so many details and i want to finish this Cathedral perfectly. I traced them one by one slowly and neatly by using pen tool. The color also follow the example by using eyedropper tool.

HARP

Subject Title Lecture

Typographic Skill Music Instrument Poster Ms. Utari Syaukat

In the time of the Celtic Chieftains, those who played the harp were held in high esteem. Harpist would also be used to lead the troops into battle. But the harp was almost vanquished during the 16th century by an order of the British crown to end the rebellion. All harps were to be destroyed and their players killed. This order was successful until the late 18th century when there was a resurgence of the harp. Harp is one of classic music instruments, but only some people know about the story. The history very interesting and i want people not only know the sound from the harp, but also know about its history. I put the harp on the centre, neat and cream color as background to present the keywords calm, classy, and mysterious.

Inscrutable means impossible to understand or interpret, can not be investigated, unfathomable. There are few things in life that we can not interpret, one of them is love. Love is closely related to a mate, people never know who is the future mate. Winding lines that make up the face of a woman and a man are symbolize of long, uncertain, and mysterious love story. Two different colors between the right and left symbolize in love there are two people with two minds, two hearts and two souls are united. Pink arouses interest and exciment, but in a softer and quiter way (interest and exciment in love). While blue is classic (people want to live happily ever after with his/her mate).

Digital Design Intermediate Image Manipulation (Surrealism) Mr. Emanuel Pratalaharja

Surrealism is something not real and hard to understand. This project requires me to manipulate and combine images. I combined between my dream and advertising (children madicine - the children face with flower pattern that see everything beautiful, but the environment is not as good as she thought, and the her pet is not that cute, although the body is cat, but the head is lion). My dream is pretty simple, about a girl run away from her big beautiful castle with her pet (LIOT = Lion + Cat) this girl really innocent and see the pet is cute, in fact the pet is wild. She and her pet are lost in the creepy forest. I added some images to support my story, i added some wild baboons, some weird creatures, and creepy trees. I also added some tone layer and light effects.

Kreasi Sampah Rezeki Nambah is a new program from ministry of environment in Indonesia. The concept is “trash is not 100% trash” because if we think more, we can make it something from trash. The name of this program is “Kreasi Sampah Rezeki Nambah is to make people dont think this is dirty but creative and they will get money. The program seperates into 2 events, first is recycle tutoring which will start in Jakarta on 10th - 20th July. The purpose is to guide the public (class C) to be creative and use the objects we already had and to give economic value. Then they will make their own projects and we will provide with bazaar that held on 10th - 15th August with the buyer is class A.

Eh Ibu Wati, kenapa kok barangnya berantakan gini?

Ibu Wati :

Iya nih tiap hari sampah numpuk jadi harus buang keluar setiap hari. Eh Ibu Lusi, ngomong-ngomong kok sampahnya dikit banget?

Ibu Lusi :

Oh iya dong, saya kan ikut program Kreasi Sampah Rezeki Nambah, emang Ibu Wati gak tau?

Ibu Wati :

Kreasi Sampah Rezeki Nambah? Apaan tuh?

Ibu Lusi :

Jadi nanti tanggal 10 sampai 20 Juli bakal ada mobil yang keliling Jakarta buat ngajarin kita cara mendaur ulang barang bekas jadi barang yang bisa kita jual, jadi sampah dirumah kita bukan sekedar sampah.

Ibu Wati :

Oh gitu, terus kalo udah di ajarin ngedaur, barangnya buat apa?

Ibu Lusi :

Nah, setelah di ajarin, kita ada waktu buat berkreasi sendiri. Setelah itu tanggal 10 sampai 15 Agustus akan diadakan bazaar karya daur ulang, disana kita bisa pamerin dan jual karya daur ulang kita, Bu Wati. Ayo ikutan!

Ibu Wati :

Ohh gitu, emang dimana lokasi bazaarnya, Bu?

Ibu Lusi :

Bazaarnya akan diadakan di Gelora Bung Karno, Jalan Pintu Satu Senayan, Jakarta Pusat, Bu.

Visual Communication Infographic Mr. Angga Gumay

Indonesia is an archipelago with so many people live in there. It also brings some problems, such as unemployment, crime, education, and all of them can called as social inequality. Lately people act just like forget about this problem, maybe they tired of the problem unsolved. and i want to remind the people we still have this problem to solve and make indonesia become a better country. The target audience is young generation between 25 - 35 years old, which is open minded, mature and not emotional anymore. The concept is about piggy bank. I want to focus on

economy because the roots of this problem is economy with education behind it. I choose piggy bank because in majapahit era, they called ‘celengan’ which in javanese means boar (pig) another symbol is just present each part. Mostly red orange yellow, because when i heard Indonesia, i imagine these 3 colours, red as brave, orange as spirit, and yellow as creative/innovative. I use Museo font because it still readable and still give Indonesia look and feel. I got the informations from internet, articles, news, then i format them all into percentage to make the target audience read it easily.

Typographic Skill Type Specimen Promotional Tools Ms. Utari Syaukat

Type specimen promotional tools is a way to promote new typeface. I chose Quicksand because it is a new typeface that has been released in 2008, but the designer, Andre Panglinawan got some positive feedbacks and he redesigned some parts of the letters. Then he released again in 2013. The concept is about sewing because sewing is make something from something (make fabrics or clothes from thread) just like the history (from 2008 and 2013), and this is the time for Quicksand to “sew“ its career in typeface indutry. The color pastel present the calmness because we have to be calm when we are sewing. The challange of this project is I have to make this all by Quicksand letters and make up the story from informationi I got because there is not much history, information, and reference.

Quicksand Jesslyn A Johan

Quicksand is a redesign of Quicksand family originally made in 2008 using geometric shapes as it’s core foundation. Received a fair amount of positive feedback and felt so highly about it but started to realize the sheer amount of mistakes and issues Quicksand’s development started to address those issues. Quicksand currently have four weights which are dash, light, regular, and bold including true italics for each weight. It is planned to be released as a free “libre“ font under SIL Open Font License before the end of 2013.

are some people that starting to consume low sugar as healthy lifestyles. For the example they change to wheat bread but they don’t realize about the high jam.

Zlei is from Indonesian “selai“ or “selei“ and I change the S to Z to make it more interesting if you pronounce it. Zlei is fruit jams which is made by natural ingredient.There are 3 flavours, Strawberry, Pineapple, and Blueberry. The fruit is 100% natural that planted by Zlei’s farmers. The sweet is from natural honey which is base the jam and Zlei’s point of sale. The jar is small because Zlei is without preservative, and a jar for 2 weeks. There is also a family pack which is 3 jams in 1 box for 2 weeks.

Kartini is a women’s magazine founded by Lukman Umar. Kartini magazine first published in 1974 and is very popular in Indonesia. Indonesian language edition published by Kartini Group. In addition to its print edition, there is also its online edition. Kartini magazine is quite old and for this redesigning magazine, i chose December edition. The concept is sophisticated. The purpose is to increase its class to high class. It will make women read this magazine comfortably because of the look and feel to not tense while reading serious informations. It will give you informations about daily news, serial short stories, tips and tricks, health, a bit of fashion, and recipes. This magazine will look cozy and welcome. You can see that from the majority soft or pastel color as background. Neat margin and grids have become a necessity. We will use high resolution images and illustrations to support some articles to make the reader little bit relax. We will use warm and serious colors to support informative and cozy feel. Sans serif typeface will be dominant for body text in this magazine. The keywords are cozy or warm, welcome,trustworthy, and serious.

LIMA ANAK SEHAT

Corporate Identity Health and Care Mr. Reza Arbain

Indonesia is a developing country with high birth rate, but it is not supported with sufficient education and the economy as well. This had a negative impact, especially health care for newborns. Thus the a charitable foundation that was built specifically with toddlers in Indonesia, namely Lima Anak Sehat - located in Jakarta. The foundation is addressing some dangerous disease that affects infants in Indonesia such as Hydrocephalus, Meningitis, Siamese twins, Autism, and HIV / Aids. Lima Anak Sehat Foundation has a 3 phase service, namely education (education for pregnant women), Prevention (Immunization for pregnant women), and handling (Surgery, immunization, treatment, and rehabilitation of sick child). The whole service is intended for poor people. The logo is made of mom and baby’s faces, hand, and fingerprint. The face with smile represent the positif suggestion, while hand represent the warmth of a mom because weak baby always try to find his/her mom. The finger print is use for something important and we all have different finger print, it also represent all babies we care also our priority, they all have different needs but they all important for us.
