2ND ANNUAL CHARITY CHASE

With the year winding down fast, Marina KIWIN’S decided to end it on a good note with one of the most eventful months we’ve ever seen! One event that really stood out was our 2nd annual Charity Chase, an original event, that was held on Sunday, December 17th, from 8:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M at our own school’s track. Volunteers arrived at 7 A.M to help set up the event, which included putting up canopies, setting up the concessions and checking runners in. During this time, we were given tasks to do during the event itself, one of which was timing the runners to determine the winner. The pressure was on for volunteers knowing that they had to start and stop the timers perfectly! As the time neared 8 A.M, and people arrived, we all ran to our designated spots and prepared to started the event. Throughout the day, we helped time and prepare the racers in events like the 100m sprint and long jump. At the long jump location, volunteers worked hard to make sure that the sand was smooth every time someone had finished doing their jump by using their rakes to go over the top layer of the sand. One of the last events that day, but definitely one of the most memorable, was hurdling. Using almost every volunteer we had, we set up the hurdles all along the track. We all stood at the sidelines cheering on our friends that took place in the race and motivated them to keep going when they fell down! In the end, we packed up the gear, folded up the tables and canopies, and awarded the winners of the races with medals. A success with our concessions, we counted up the total to be $321.82! This original event was a great addition to our final month in 2017.
CHRISTMAS GAZEBO CALVIN TRAN - FOUTAIN VALLEY HS
On Saturday December 9, members from FV KIWIN’S volunteered at the annual Christmas in the Gazebo event at Heritage Park in the FV Library. Members helped set up prior to the event by arranging tables and chairs, helping vendors set up their booths, setting up Christmas trees. The event coordinators were also kind enough to give everyone free Santa hats to take up. Throughout the event, members were in charge of selling hot dogs and distributing free hot chocolate, hot cider, and cookies. After the event, our members broke down the tables and chairs and cleaned up the trash around the park.
