OC FAIR R U N 5K M I CH A E L N G U Y E N | E DI S I ON H S

On August 6th, Edison KIWIN’S had a service event at the OC Fairgrounds. We all woke up around 5:30am and arrived at OC Fairgrounds at 6:30am. 10 members arrived that day to volunteer for the Fun Run and once we arrived, we were split up into groups for course management. We were all stationed at specific point of the Fun Run and directed the runners towards the correct paths. As runners passed by, we cheered on

5

cheered on the runners and encouraged them to keep on going and congratulated them on their hard work. They ran with cute little stuffed pigs that were different colors and a young girl gave a pink stuffed pig to me. At approximately 8am, the Fun Run was finished and all the volunteers gathered around at the finish line and were assigned jobs for clean up. We carried tables and chairs back to where they needed to be and rolled up the tape put around the entire Fair. We also packed up all the markers into a huge truck that Johnny Kwok our President of Edison KIWIN’S got the opportunity to drive. The overall experience was extremely enjoyable and the workers there were all helpful in guiding us. Everybody got rides home and had an enjoyable time. Edison KIWIN’S will definitely come back another time to help out managing other events at the OC Fairgrounds!

1, 2, 3, THROW! Clouds of rainbow filled the sky and shouts of excitement rang through the park, marking the first color throw of the day and commencing the Color Vibe Run. Hundreds of runners and volunteers gathered at Mile Square Park to participate in this vibrant event. KIWIN’S volunteers were split up into two groups, with one working at the starting line to cheer

7

on runners as they began, and the other group stationed further along the route where they threw hot pink powder at the runners coming through. Member Vivian Le describes, “We cheered on the runners with KIWIN’S cheers and tried to hype them up as they continued their 5K run. Children who also participated looked like they were having a lot of fun because there was music playing, and they were covered in powder from head to toe! After the run was completed, volunteers were able to explore the many booths and even join in on the after-party full of music and even more color throws. Members later assisted by picking up trash, removing barriers, and disassembling flags as the event came to an end. All in all, volunteers and runners alike ended the day in a different color and in higher
