the rhythm of life
The Rhythm of Life: Moving through the Challenges of Childhood, Adolescence, Adulthood and Senior Adulthood A Sermon Series Based on the Life of David – by Dr. Martin Thielen August 25/26..............Part 3: Adulthood September 1/2...........Part 4: Senior Adulthood
Sunday, August 26 Moving through The Challenges of Adulthood ‘A Balancing Act’ -- People to Walk Along With You As our sermon series looks at King David as an adult we’re hit with a major question – “How do we find balance in our lives?” The demands seem endless and yet we know that God’s desire for us is something more… Here’s your invitation – David didn’t always get it right either (to say the least) but Jesus teaches us something about this balance. Become a part of a group who can help you grow or if you’re feeling so led start one. What me? Yeah, because a couple stepped forward we’ve got a new small group for parent’s forming on Sunday nights at 5:30 while their kids are taking part in our student ministries. Come to an information session on September 9th in room BH102 to find out more. In addition, a new 9:45 am Sunday School class is forming -“Connections” -- which will begin with an Open House on Sunday, September 16 at 9:45 in Room BH101. Connections welcomes adults of all ages & stages of life -- married or single. The class will alternate between book studies and Bible studies. For information, contact Pat Ralls, patralls@comcast.net or Carol Bumbalough, bumbalough@comcast.net. Imagine how David’s life might have been different as he grew and even messed up (Shepherd, Warrior, King, Adulterer, Poet…) if he was a part of a group that offered him accountability and support? How might the same be true for you? (cont. on page 2) Real Life Ahead . . . It’s Coming! Beginning September 22/23 – a sermon series by Dr. Martin Thielen Being a United Methodist means knowing that God is helping us grow into Christ’s image throughout our whole lives. Starting September 22/23 we’ll launch into a new sermon series by Dr. Martin Thielen on what it looks like to live knowing that there is Real Life Ahead for each of us as we grow closer to God. Over 8 weeks we’ll be reminded of the practices that Jesus taught us to keep us on this journey -- an invite you to rediscover the Real Life that lies Ahead. New Time for Tuesday Morning Worship Beginning Tuesday, September 4, Tuesday Morning Worship will begin at 7 am in the sanctuary. Join others to begin your day with quiet time, reflection, and prayer. Come as you are – on your way to work, before your workout, or just as you start your day.

Moving through The Challenges of Adulthood: ‘A Balancing Act’ (continued) Support for When the Journey is Hard Life also is full of unexpected times when we loose our balance or need a helping hand, even if just for a season. BUMC offers another form of community through issue-specific support groups, life skills workshops, and programs. We’re here for you and for each other and want you to know that. See the back of the Beam for a complete list of ways we can help you regain your balance. This might include pastoral care and counseling services or a Stephen Minister who will walk alongside you as a hand to hold through the challenges you face. Whether it is grief, loneliness, addiction, illness, or faith concerns, we need you to know that you’re not alone and we follow the example of Christ as we hold one another up in these seasons of life. Really – be in touch with us so that we can better walk with you. Judith Bone, Director of Adult Discipleship; 324-7258 or jbone@bumc.net Rev.
