Get To Know our New Senior Pastor, Martin Thielen • Martin’s Box You will notice that Martin is preaching on the orchestra director’s stand. This is to help people better see him during the sermon. A professional cabinet maker will soon build a portable platform for the sermons, so please be patient with the ugly box until it’s completed! • Listening Sessions are planned for Wednesday nights, August through October. Sessions are designed so Martin can learn more about who we are as a community and to hear our hope and dreams for our church. They are organized around age and stage of life, although anyone is invited to attend any session. A schedule is available at www.bumc.net. upcoming activities Red Cross Blood Drive Sunday, August 14, 7:30 am - 12:30 pm Two buses will be available with a goal of 50 units. BUMC blood donations have significantly dropped this year and we are in danger of losing one of the buses and having our donation hours reduced. Please find the time to donate on August 14. Results of June 12 drive: 35 donated units and two first-time donors. Men’s White Water Rafting Trip 2011 Saturday, August 20 – Noon, Sunday, August 21 Join us as we go white water rafting on the Ocoee River in beautiful Ocoee, TN! Limited to the first 25 participants. Cost is $115 per person and includes a day of rafting, lodging, food, raft gear, instruction, tips, and t-shirt. Must be 16 years or older to attend. A Rewarding Volunteer Opportunity for Women: September 18-November 6 Serve as a mentor to an inmate at the TN Prison for Women through Better Decisions, an 8-week program which teaches decision-making skills. Commitment: attend volunteer training weekend September 10-11, meet with your inmate partner for one hour weekly, and attend graduation (November 14). Calling all Women for Habitat for Humanity!! Habitat for Humanity of Williamson County is hosting their 2nd Women’s Build to begin August 20/21 and continue each Saturday through October 15. This is the perfect opportunity for women to make an impact on affordable housing in Williamson County by sponsoring and building a home for a hard working single mother and her daughter. Be a part of BUMC’s 14th Mission Trip to Mexico September 9 – 18, 2011. BUMC will send a group to Mexico to serve with the Give Ye Them to Eat (GYTTE) Program (www.gytte.org ). The GYTTE Tree of Life Center is located in South Central Mexico, near the village of Tlancualpican, and serves the very poor rural population in the areas of community development, agriculture, healthcare, livestock, housing, and worship.
