The task of this project was to create and unify 6 blocks, located in a privileged ground of the city of Quito. Creating a high density-housing complex that will allow people to live near the commercial heart of the metropolis. It combines 6 mat buildings well organized that share the same public spaces and roads.

Meander The volumes that surround the plaza had to be of service to the people of the town and to the visitors of the whole project, that is why in addition to the public library it was suggested an outdoor cinema/theater and a market that completes the already existing one. The Cinema as a link and a barrier between the Library and the market. This building is situated above a platform for shows. The outdoor furniture is located facing the structure for this reason. The market was conceived as a piece that could dialogue with the plaza, the student residence and the town surroundings. A link with the city was created this way. To solve the chaos that takes place in this conjunction point of the city, particular roads and an underground bus station where created. You can access this station from the plaza. The spatial figure created by the volumes guide you visually to the exit points out of the project.

To understand this project we have to analyze the urban surrounding of the last part of the meander, as we have called our urban plan. It was needed to develop a limit for the project and at the same time a link to the city. Since, in this part of Cumbaya converge various roads of different kinds: pedestrian flow, recreational pads, public transportation, and regular traffic. As a result three main volumes where conceived which in conjunction with the urban matrix develop a plaza useful to distribute pedestrian transit or for leisure purposes. This Plaza has a vanishing point, created by its shape, pointing out the library (main building) and leading you to the exit and converging point of the town. This project tried to weave itself in to the existing patron by connecting the main places of Cumbaya with pedestrian roads and an opening that let the city in.

Mixed-use building The intention of this project was not to interfere with the pure and beautiful landscape around the site. Therefore, an elevated volume was designed taking advantage of the uneven levels presented by the terrain in order to place some elements underground. As a result and since the element has been concealed, the city of Cumbaya, already crowded, can enjoy and save its essential view, air and green landscape. Zone classification: The lot is surrounded by building of diverse use making it an ideal spot to locate a building of this nature.

Observatory The project integrates the mountain like environment, beginning from the observatory with a radial axis for the disposition of the elements of the program. These elements are connected by a path that makes you travel around the mountain and the project at the same time. Alloying you to engage with nature and live a sensorial experience while in you occupy the facilities. The intention is to lead a person through a path where he can sense the space while communicating with the nature and other elements.

Tesis The project’s purpose is to highlight the space concept understood as the place created by means of the human activities performed within. The concepts of fluency, integration, flexibility and versatility were incorporated in order to categorize the space without necessarily dividing it. Urban situation The park “Gabriela Mistral” is a strategic urban spot with great development potential, regretfully it has been neglected mainly because people don’t find any reason to go and feel the place as theirs. This is why this project suggests a mix use building creating a facility that holds an Architecture Faculty that will bring life to the place and elements of public use that interact with the urban weave. Having protected houses and trees in this space was an advantage since they became an essential part of the project. In this intervention the concept of crossprograming has been referenced by adapting existing buildings to new developments and society trends. To accomplish this expansion of the urban space a study of the existing pedestrian and vehicle paths was conducted. As a result, the street Juan Rodriguez was meant to be just for pedestrians use due to its unique characteristics and historical value. Consecuently, a megablock of public use was born.

PROJECT Our group was in charge of creating a new cultural center for the city of Cartagena in front of the biggest bastion of the old city. We knew that the first task was to find a way to incorporate the project in the existing dynamic of the place. With this in mind we elaborated a building with an organic form that let people in the building with out leaving the city. This was accomplish by having no establish limits between the out side and the inside. Diagonals invite you in, you could see the city from almost every place of the project and enter and exit ways were no explicit.
