Benevilla Surprise Community Gardens

Gayle Grogan

Did you know that Surprise, Arizona has a secret? Yes, Surprise has a community garden where you can grow your own organic veggies. All the plant beds are raised, so you don’t have to bend over (like we did when we were younger). You can rent a spot for the year and grow to your heart’s content. The plots are $40 for a small plot (4 ft. by 7 ft.) and $100 for a large plot (6 ft. by 20 ft.). The garden is surrounded by a fence so no two- or four-legged animals can get in and take what they would like. The garden location is right beside Rio Salado Community College on Greasewood Street and behind the Benevilla campus. The garden’s address is 1652 N Greasewood St, Surprise. This community garden opened in 2012 and is a partnership between the City of Surprise, Rio Salado College, and Benevilla. Benevillais a nonprofit organization offering a variety of services to including an adult daycare, a preschool and child care center. If you have any questions about the community garden, give me a call at 520-450-3030.
