Introduction I often travel and photograph around the world during my holidays. When I return to a place after many years, I find that everything has changed and the city is losing its cultural style. I discovered that during the urbanization process, many cities’ traditional landmarks were replaced by commercial towers or high-rise residential buildings, and cities had lost their cultural identities. Such a loss made me realize that urban designers are obligated to protect these heritages. To find out a way to sustain our city growth while reasonably preserving local culture is the reason why I choose to study Urban Design.

CITY OF GRASSLANDS

The intention formed by the historical elements of farming and animal husbandry is extracted to carry out the urban design of grassland

After researching the situation of modern Chinese cities in grassland regions and the development history of Chinese agriculture and animal husbandry, I think the ideal Grassland City should integrate modern life with traditional production and living activities. I extract elements from the traditional society and transform them into new city structure and building shapes. I created a city that is run through by green belts and can be integrated with grassland life perfectly.

1.Agricultural Style and Features

From the agricultural settlement sites that have been found, no matter the individual house or the whole yard, each other is an independent living or production unit. It reflect the individual small-scale peasant economy in the Han Dynasty.

The layout of residential buildings in the plan continues the structure of the historic village.

The ancient agricultural settlements usually have fixed locations. They have concentrated living areas surrounded by farmlands. A few green belts extend into the centers of the villages.

I extracted the structure of roads and green belts in the traditional village and formulated a new urban structure.

Mongolian yurt is a kind of house that Mongolian herdsmen live in.Both construction and relocation are convenient for pastoral production and nomadic life.

I refined the forms of yurt groups and applied the shapes on the public buildings in my plan.

2.Animal Husbandry Style and Features

The ancient nomadic culture community has strong group The public building groups in my consciousness and close organizational relationship. plan have the similar layout of During migration, these people absorbed other cultures. Their traditional yurt groups. houses showed a variety forms of arrangement.

MASTERPLAN I plan central green belt to connect Daheishan Mountain in the north and the Mineral Spring Park in the south. The green belt also connects the agricultural lands in the east. There are factory clusters on the east of the site. So I planned the residential areas in the west.

In the current function distribution of the buildings, the functions of the three buildings are very single, and there is no connection. This design will update and subdivide the functions. Starting from the relationship between the use of people and functions, it will connect the interactive parts, promote its own development, and encourage people to interact with the designer at the same time.

Plan The building block of the site is too large, which leads to the lack of daylighting. I demolished part of the area, so that the three buildings were enclosed to form a small square to enrich people's walking lines. Considering that its commercial functions require a large number of people, the business district is arranged on the lower level, and the exhibition area is arranged in the atrium. The livestreaming is relatively independent, parallel with learning, and connected with the design area.

Functional Partition As the plot is close to the viaduct, in order to promote the evacuation of people along the street, part of the first floor and the second floor are used as a semiopen space. Considering the density of people, leisure Spaces such as creative bookstore and coffee are added into the functions of the ground floor. Functionally, designers' studios are used to connect buildings, promote communication among designers and encourage personalized design. On the top floor, a screening hall is arranged to bring visitors into the atmosphere of design and personally feel the charm of costume design.

After the Qing Dynasty established Beijing as its capital, officials from other provinces came to the capital and lived nearby outside Xuanwu Gate. Therefore, the vicinity of Liulichang gradually became a gathering place for literati. Booksellers from all over the country also set up booths, built rooms and sold a large number of books here.

The transfer of Liulichang is said to have occurred in the 33rd year of Kangxi (1694).It began as an open-air market for various sundries, forming the rudimentary form of Liulichang today.

1722

During the reign of Emperor Qianlong, the compilers of the <Book of Four Kushiquan >often went to Liulichang to read the books, and scholars from all over the world also set up stalls here to sell a large number of books. In this period, in addition to the bookshops, antiques, calligraphy and culture-related industries also developed.

To guide the neighborhood committees in the communities where the historic districts are located to give full play to their autonomous role and maintain the features of the historic districts:

(1) To establish community housing files and report any illegal construction to the competent departments in time. (2) Strengthen supervision and administration over the stacking of materials, cleaning up and transporting of dregs in the process of house repair. (3) To master the vehicle situation of community residents and explore the new parking management mode of historic districts.

Street The site belongs to the traditional historical block, and the unreasonable planning leads to many dead-end roads in the hutong. This causes low regional activity. In this conservation and renewal scheme, the original spatial shape and scale are extracted, and new capillary streets and lanes are extended. Considering that there are three schools in the plot, on the premise of retaining the original scale of streets and alleys, the one-way road for vehicles is planned, and the weaving network mechanism is used to improve the accessibility.

Placing green small landscape, on the basis of maintaining the normal pedestrian flow line, increase the street greening, create a pleasant street environment, improve the walking comfort of pedestrians.

Public Furniture

Due to the narrow width of the street, public facilities should be installed while vertical greening is added to encourage people to communicate and interact, thus forming an active and diverse block.

Building

The ancient buildings in the site should retain their original structural features and demolish the illegal construction. The tour function can be properly introduced to help visitors better understand the hutong culture of old Beijing.

Street

This location is a crowded area, so the plan will change it into a one-way street, and prohibit motor vehicles from entering Nanliu Lane, so as to make the walking experience of pedestrians safer and reduce the probability of vehicle disturbance to the people.
