The History of Ice Skating

Modern figure skating has four Olympic disciplines: men's singles, Indies singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. The competitive figure skating season may run from August to April. Levels include senior, junior, novice, and various pre-novice levels. In 2009, the world team trophy was introduced. The team event will make its Olympic debut at the 2014 Winter Olympics. Since 2000, there is also a world championships for synchronized skating. Solo ice dance has grown in popularity while four skating has disappeared.

Clothing

Right now, settle for "costumes" with a little less glitter and find some clothes with a lot more practicality. Here's a place you don't need to spend a fortune. Training clothes should be safe, (I recommend helmets for toddlers), comfortable, lightweight, stretchy, and warm. Bear in mind that many rinks are not heated, so choose layers that can be easily shed once you've warmed up. On your upper body, put cotton next to your skin. It allows your skin to breathe. Maybe a long sleeved T-shirt, then something a bit heavier, such as a sweatshirt, and finish off with a toasty warm sweater or warmup jacket.

To Sharpen Or Not to Sharpen

When done right, a good sharpening will last from several weeks to several months, depending on how often you skate and how well you look after your blades. It's definitely time to resharpen if your blades are slipping or sticking, or not carving forcefully into the ice. (if you are feeling frustrated because skating feels like trying to cut into a piece of meat with a dull knife you probably need a sharpening.)

Footwork

Footwork is a term used to describe any series of steps, turns, hops and edges. It may be used to connect all other elements on its own (it's so important). Any footwork sequence is composed of basic moves from figures, free skating and dance that are combined in a variety of unique ways.
