GOD’S House 1 Corinthians 6:12-20 (NASB) Read the passage and answer the following questions:
1.In today’s culture, we are accustomed to getting whatever we want, whenever we want it. Have you ever splurged? What was the biggest splurge you’ve given to yourself recently? Why did you splurge (on that)? 2. In 1 Corinthians 6:12a, Paul states that “all things” are lawful for him, but not all things are profitable. In your own words, explain what he means. 3. Paul goes on to say that he will not be “mastered” by anything. This word ’mastered’ in the Greek is exousiazo and it means “exercise authority upon.” What does Paul mean?
1 Corinthians 6:12-20 4. Fill in the blanks. In 1 Cor. 6:13, Paul says, “____ is for the ______ and the _____ is for ____, but God will do away with both of them. He goes on to say, “Yet the _____ is not for ______ but for the ________ and the ____ is for the _______.” Explain what Paul means with the analogy that he uses. 5. What happens when a per son doesn’t use an item for its intended purpose? If you’ve ever done this, share what happened. 6. In verse 15a, Paul goes on to say that our ‘bodies’ are ‘members’ of Christ. How is this possible?
“ . . . Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you . . .” 1 Cor. 6:19. 7. In verses 16 and 17 Paul uses the word “join.” First in his analogy of a person ‘joining’ himself to a prostitute—becoming ‘one body’ with her (v 16). And second, he uses the word ‘join’ in his statement that, “one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him (v 17). That word join means “to glue together,” “to bind.” RE-WRITE verses 16 and 17, inserting the definitions for the word “join” and explain in what Paul is saying. 8. What impact does being “joined” to the Lord and being one spirit with Him have on you (in your life)? 9. In 1 Cor. 6:18, Paul says FLEE immorality! That word flee in Greek is pheugo, meaning “avoid” and “elude.” Paul states, Avoid! Elude! Immorality (sexual) . He then goes on to show an interesting contrast stating that “every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, BUT the immoral man sins against his own body.” How does one sin “outside” his or her body? How is that different than sexual immorality according to Paul (which is sinning against one’s own body)? 10. In our busy day-to-day, we go in and out of buildings and places all the time (most of the time without paying any notice to our surroundings). What attributes make buildings or offices or spaces more inviting to you? Share about any special buildings that you like and why you like them.
