You can borrow a “book club in a bag” from the library for your next book discussion meeting. Each Book Club Kit includes a tote bag with 10 copies of a book plus discussion questions and background information, such as author biographies, book reviews, and more.

FALL LIBRARY NEWS FALL FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY BOOK SALE November 4-12 at 10am-7pm Gordon Avenue Library Members only pre-sale: November 3 at 5-7pm Half-price days: November 11 & 12 Fabulous books, recordings, games and puzzles, and ephemera of all types will be available. As in past years, the public is invited to jump start your holiday shopping, with a wide selection of great books at great prices for a great cause. No scanners or other electronic devices are permitted during the first three hours (10am to 1pm) of the first day of the book sale on November 4. THE GIVING TREE
November 6 - December 4 Share your love of reading with a child enrolled in the local Head Start, YMCA or Virginia Preschool Initiative preschool program. Select a name at a participating library beginning November 6 and buy a gift picture book to return unwrapped to the library by December 4. Available at the Central, Crozet, Gordon Avenue, Greene, Nelson, Northside, and Scottsville branches.

The most important thing you can do to help your child be ready for Kindergarten is reading aloud to them. JMRL’s new 1000 Books Before Kindergarten can help you “Build A Reader.” Stop by any branch to pick up your first sheet for 50 books. After 50 books, turn in your sheet to receive a folder and be officially registered for the program. After 100 books, you’ll receive a tote bag. Tuesday, November 14 at 6:30pm or Saturday, December 2 at 1pm (Both seminars will cover identical material) In this 1-hour seminar with writer, editor, and writing coach, Lisa Ellison, you’ll learn the 3 questions every writer must ask before submitting their work and how to navigate the crossroads each question presents. Participants will receive a discount toward the WriterHouse seminar “Publish or Bust: Choosing the Right Publication Path for Your Work,” scheduled for mid-January (date TBA). Registration for either seminar is required beginning October 24.
STRAWBEE BUILDING CHALLENGE Thursday, November 16 at 4pm Strawbees are a fantastic building toy that lets you connect straws to each other. What will you build? Ages 5-12. Registration begins November 2.

TINKERCAD WORKSHOP
Monday, December 11 at 6:30pm Interested in designing your own 3D-printable objects? Get started with this workshop on TinkerCAD, a free and easy-to-use CAD program. Participants will be able to have their designs printed for free with Northside’s 3D printer. Ages 10-18. Required registration begins two weeks before event date.
FAMILY ART DROP-IN
Thursday, December 14 at 3:30-5:30pm Families are invited to make a non-edible gingerbread house. Great art can be messy, so come dressed to create at the library. We’ll pull out all the glitter and glue for loads of fun. Ages 0-12.

Heather Stertzer, Beekeeper and Co-Owner of the Scottsville Supply Company, will discuss the basics of the honeybee, what it takes to get started with one hive, and show you the hive components, tools, and equipment you need to become a beekeeper. This workshop is for those that have never managed a honeybee hive or first year beekeepers looking for a refresher course. Registration begins September 26.
