CHRONICLES - BUKET ÖZATAY Buket Ozatay is a Turkish Cypriot photographer based in Nicosia, Cyprus. Photography is an obsessive passion for her. She is passionate about documenting current events but also life in all corners of the world. Her passion is to explore and capture images from around the world. She was able to take photographs of different faces, colors and all the richness pertaining to human beings and nature wherever she visited. Although her work process is mainly focused on capturing people in their natural environment, she enjoys creative photography as well. Photography is the way she views the world and how she responds to it through her camera. She was born into photography. She believes that her love to her late father who was also a professional photographer made her love photography. He was her inspiration. After her business administration and marketing studies at the university she worked in her late father’s photography business many years until 2020. Currently she is working freelance. She has been teaching basic photography and photoshop in the municipality social activities center and privately for many years. She is the first Cypriot women photographer and second Cypriot photographer to receive the distinction EFIAP/d1 in 2020 from FIAP which is recognized by Unesco. She earned her EPSA title from PSA in 2021. She has been a member of International Federation of Art Photography FIAP, Photographic Society of America PSA, and Image Sans Frontier ISF for many years.

CHRONICLES - BUKET ÖZATAY She has opened several solo and duo exhibitions. She participated in many group exhibitions both in Cyprus and abroad. Her work has been shown in over 80 countries on five continents; in many international photo competition exhibitions, festivals, fairs, galleries and biennials and have received many awards. Her work has been featured in many publications. In recognition of her photography skills, her support on worldwide photography and her contribution to photographic art she was awarded with Honorary Fellowship of many major renowned photography organizations. She has been yearly organizing a national photo competition and exhibition since 2009 in memory of her late father. It is the biggest photography contest in Northern Cyprus. Her aim is not only to commemorate her father but also to promote photography in her home country. She has been in judging panel of many PSA & FIAP competitions for the last couple of years. Since 2020 she has started to organize PSA licenced competitions of her own photo club, Nicosia Photographic Society NPS.

CHRONICLES - FRANK LASSAK Dream Control – When Freedom Ends
An art book and exhibition with staged photographs and illuminating essays: a rollercoaster ride through a virtual entertainment park for sleepwalkers, set in the near future; visually and literary compelling. Conceived, designed and produced by Frank Lassak, Efacts Photography, Berlin In cooperation with Musée de cinéma et miniatures, Lyon Director of Photography: Frank Lassak Creative Director: Lena Naomi Krebs Text and book design: Frank Lassak Essay: Julius Deutschbauer, Sina Klein The photographic series “Dream Control – When Freedom Ends” describes and visualizes the fascinating and terrifying aspects of a future entertainment park for sleepwalkers: the so-called Somniverse. Viewers of the series are invited to scrutinize the value and integrity of allegedly lifeenhancing services, whose primary aim is to jeopardize the clients’ ability to lead a self-determined,sovereign life. In addition to the photography (20 color prints, 160 x 100 cm) and texts from the 88-page hardcover book, the exhibition includes a soundscape, written by Russian composer Sasha Pushkin.

CHRONICLES - FRANK LASSAK The project “Dream Control” began in November 2017, while researching a story about the nature of hyper-commercialized social media. Inspired by Neal Stephenson’s iconic novel „Snow Crash“, the idea of a saturnine corporation emerged that drew its power from sophisticated behavior control in disguise of social media. “DC Corp., the fictional company that runs the Somniverse, is loosely based on the model of today’s multinational enterprises and an example for scrupulous business models in the age of surveillance capitalism,” says Berlin-based artist Frank Lassak, who created the series in cooperation with Musée de cinéma et miniatures, Lyon.
“While the entertainment industry has conquered almost all areas of life but the realm of the subconscious, it is quite likely it will expand into that field in the near future”. Says Frank: “That is just one reason, why Dream Control should trigger a debate about the future of our society”.
The staged photographs of the series were produced using artistic miniatures (1/12th scale) from the museum as backdrops. Actors and actresses, including Oscar-winner Christian Harting („Son of Saul“, 2016) were photographed separately in a studio. In total, the production team consisted of more than 50 specialists, led by creative director Lena Naomi Krebs. All pictures were recorded on film and digitally post-produced.
About the artist: Frank Lassak lives and works in Berlin, Germany, where he runs his atelier Efacts Photography since 2009. His works focus on staged cinematic scenes, narrative photography and portraits of actors and actresses. Frank became internationally known with his body of works related to the movies of David Lynch (Welcome to Twin Peaks, 2017, True Velvet, 2011). His works were shown in exhibitions all over Europe, for example in London, Rome, Barcelona – and of course in Berlin.

Born 59 years ago in Angola, a land where Light has smell and taste. Lives in the Algarve where the Sea and the Light combine in an inspiring symphony. About Photography: "I have always looked at photography as a form of language, of interpretation of the real world, ultimately, an artistic expression. In this sense, photography appeared in my life as a necessity, something as natural as the air I breathe. Photography is above all, to express my feeling by looking at what surrounds me. In the beginning, I photographed almost everything I saw: doors, windows, boats, people, in short, I photographed without direction, as if my gaze lived in chaos. As my critical and demanding sense grew, I felt the need to have an "identity" in the photography I did. Street photography then appears in my life as the place where I can communicate with others, even through the silence of a moment captured by my camera.

Most of my portfolio is composed by "Street Photography". However, due to the need to get out of my comfort zone and break new ground, I am currently working on a photographic project that I have dubbed "The Body and Language of Silence". This project aims essentially to show the body in its essence and aesthetics, whatever the age or sex, breaking taboos and prejudices. Intimate and very personal "The Body and the Language of Silence" is a homage to the senses and to what we uncover from them. I feel Photography as an intimate and solitary act; a process of dialectic subjectivity where the "I" merges into the "Other", in a perfect symbiosis.
