CHRONICLES - MÁRIO BARRELA My name is Mário Barrela, I was born in a Lisbon neighbourhood called Graça in July 1971. Since I was young I always liked photography, perhaps because I am much more visual than auditory. At the beginning it was almost like everybody else , with a compact on holidays and with the family. With the advent of mobile phones I started to photograph more regularly, but about 3 or 4 years ago I went on a trip to London and it awakened in me an immense desire to photograph. I discovered street photography and started to study this form of photography. Cartier-Bresson, Fan Ho, Vivian Maier, Susan Santag, etc were my reading companions. For me photography is to show the world as I see it, to tell stories, especially in Lisbon which is the city I love. Since then I make many visits to my city and each time it seems like the first, always with stories to tell. I'm not a professional photographer, but it was because of photography that I became much more creative, waking up thinking about photography and lying down thinking about what to photograph. My way of photography does not aim to personalize, but to introduce the human factor in the urban jungle. Many people ask me why I photograph almost always in black and white, because first I think that colour in some cases causes distraction and second I am colour blind. When you come to my Lisbon, let me know and I'll be here for a coffee

CHRONICLES - LUCIANO ZAMPORLINI My name is Luciano Zamporlini. I have been a photographer since 2010 and I have exhibited various photographic events in the Marche region. I am a teacher of Street Photography at the Free University "I cinque castelli" of Agugliano at the photography club "Amici di Carlo" of Ancona (I). I became ill on the 26th of February 2020 before being hospitalized for Covid 19 at the Torrette Hospital of Ancona for five weeks, from the 11th of March to the 17th of April. During this period of time, I used my Smartphone to document my stay in the various Covid units, taking pictures of the most intense moments of my recovery, as well as those of my roommates and the work done by the medical personnel, in order to show everyone the consequences of this virus. I truly believe that this is a unique reportage from within the "Red Zone", reflecting the strong experience we had to go through during the illness and acknowledging the dedication of the doctors, nurses and health workers in helping us to recover from this pandemic. Finding myself isolated from everyone during this long period and watching my roommates pass away makes this experience even more tragic and makes me grateful to those who allowed me to survive this disease. The medical staff was our family and together with the roommates we supported each other and gave each other hope and heart. Today we are still in daily contact. Friends from the trenches will never be forgotten.

CHRONICLES - LUCIANO ZAMPORLINI It all started like this... I have had a cold for fifteen days now and even though I have been taking antibiotics the cough is still bad. So I start thinking: 'Better this way. Having this virus I won't get Covid'. My wife hands me back the thermometer, I have a temperature of 40 °C, my breathing is bad, I am feeling worse and worse. I hear the siren of the ambulance, the door opens, some people dressed like martians walk in and take me away. I try to convince myself that I'll be right back... I only have a cold. After all, over the last week, the doctor on the phone told me this many times.... The next day my wife also contracted Covid. She still can't smell or taste anything after almost one year.

AUTHOR OF THE MONTH - TREVOR COLE Capturing inimitable moments today to reflect upon tomorrow. My own 'take' as a geographer photographer! I was born in the City of Derry, but have lived most of my life outside the bounds of Ireland; in England, Singapore, Togo, Italy, Ethiopia and Brazil. I returned to Ireland (Donegal) in 2012. My photography, together with travel, have become two of my life’s passions. My photography focuses predominantly on culture and landscapes; images which reflect a spatial and temporal journey through life and which try to convey a need to live in a more sustainable world. I seek the moment and the light in whatever context I find myself and endeavour to use my photographic acumen to turn the ordinary into the extraordinary. I lead small photo tours in my 'own Donegal’ and Ireland but also to other destinations. I lived in Ethiopia from 2006-2010 and since then have returned to take photographers to the Western and Eastern Omo, Harar, the Danakil desert and the highlands of Ethiopia. Additionally I take photo tours to Iceland, Namibia, Chad, South Sudan, Eritrea and India as well as travelling myself to discover and capture in new locations.

AUTHOR OF THE MONTH - TREVOR COLE I have been published by National Geographic (online), a number of British and European digital photography magazines and newspapers and the Survival International calendar in 2016. I won Wanderlust photographer of the year (professional portfolio category) in 2016, Monochrome awards photographer of the year in 2019, All About Photo Portrait category winner 2020 and have been a finalist in Travel Photographer of the Year 6 times achieving a special mention in 2017 and in 2019 a special mention and commended in the ‘Art of Travel’ and winner of the ‘People and Cultures’ portfolio. My images were exhibited (Oct 2020) as part of the TPOTY exhibition in London. I am a major contributor to the Atlas of Humanity project and have had exhibitions throughout Europe, including ‘Scarred’ (African tribal traits and traditions in London in November ’19).I have also presented to the Royal Geographic Society, using images to convey an image of Ethiopia which contrasts with widely held perceptions.
