My credit is in pretty bad shape, so we’ve decided to work on getting his credit in better shape in order to qualify for a mortgage loan. I have $104,000 in debt, and $92,000 of that is in student loans. He has $13,000 in debt, with $7,000 of that a repossession on a car for which he was a co-signer. Can I ﬁle bankruptcy on my debts only?

The biggest ﬂuctuation you may see is in your utilities. I heat my house with natural gas, so the bill is much higher during the winter months. It’s just the opposite during the summer. We burn electricity to run the air conditioner, so the electric bill is higher in summer. This is part of the reason I urge people to do a budget on paper, on purpose before the next month begins. You may look at the upcoming month and realize the kids have soccer pictures scheduled. There may be a school trip planned, or they may need back-to-school clothes and supplies. When it comes to a budget, there’s no easy out. Things change from month to month, and you need to think, plan ahead, and itemize so your budget is an accurate reﬂection of your life! —Dave

Hi there, I have a fairly specific question I’m hoping you’ll help me with. I graduated law school in May 2012 and passed the bar October 2012. I got an opportunity to “intern” at the prosecutors’ oﬃce. I basically have a caseload with lots of responsibility. They treat me like a full attorney, which I am, and I am responsible for doing all aspects of my cases. However, I am being paid very, very little and for only 20 hours even if I work 30-40. Some friends/family are saying to give them an ultimatum--say I need to get more to stay or otherwise I need to look elsewhere. Although I feel a little taken advantage of, I mostly feel grateful for the opportunity. Not sure if I should be bold here or sit back and see what happens. I really need to be paid more, but at the same time don’t want to jeopardize something that could

Would you believe that some interns are suing companies for more pay and consideration? It’s a slippery path. Ask one or several of them how you can make your internship turn into a job. As a side note, my cousin interned at a prosecutors’ oﬃce in another state and became the Security Exchange Commissioner because of his great contacts. I’ve been working in retail for a little over 5 years and I’m trying to find another job involving animal care or

something clerical like a receptionist because almost a year ago my grandfather passed away and I was trying to get more hours at my job and I’m a part time sales associate. I have been on many job sites looking for receptionist jobs because I’m trying to find other work other than retail, but most of them require years of experience in an oﬃce setting, proficient use of Microsoft Oﬃce, and switchboard experience. I was wondering if you have some advice on how I can find jobs like these that provide some kind of training.

Tradesmen Shortage Looms (NewsUSA) – Most Americans know the U.S. job market is improving. They may not realize, however, that there is a critical need for skilled tradesmen. America doesn’t have a jobs shortage. America has a skills shortage. For the fourth year in a row, the workforce solutions company ManpowerGroup reports that skilled trades remain the most diﬃcult jobs to fill in the U.S. According to the employers who participated in Manpower’s Talent Shortage Survey, the primary reason companies are unable to fill open positions is a lack of technical and trades skills. Yet, the demand for skilled trade positions continues to grow. The American Society of Civil Engineers recently graded American infrastructure at a D+. That means our roads and bridges across the country need vast repairs. Equally important, America needs the workers qualified to repair them. As fewer students and college graduates see the value of work-

ing with their hands, the scarcity of trades skills only grows worse.
