A minimum 3-year industrial manufacturing experience required. Responsibilities include: ability to rebuild mechanical systems, hydraulic valves, pneumatic valves, centrifugal pumps, hydraulic pumps, gear reducers, overhead cranes and other material handling equipment. Requires strong mechanical, electrical, and troubleshooting skills to be successful. Must be skilled in all aspects of plant maintenance. Must possess personal tools. Must be willing to work 1st, 2nd and 3rd shifts.

A minimum 3-year industrial manufacturing experience required. Inspect, diagnose, maintain or repair machinery, such as motors, pumps, conveyor belts, fans, variable speed drives, induction heating, etc. Understand machine relay control logic and PLCs. Read and understand electrical schematics. Requires strong electrical and troubleshooting skills to be successful. Must be willing to work 1st, 2nd and 3rd shifts.

Requires formal training and previous experience. Must be skilled in the operation of engine lathes, milling machines and drill press. Must possess the ability to read mechanical drawings and machine parts per specifications. Must be willing to work 1st, 2nd and 3rd shifts and 8-12 hour shifts with mandatory overtime.

All positions require the ability to lift 30lbs consistently, able to work in hot and cold environments, flexibility to work 1st, 2nd or 3rd shift, pushing/pulling over 30lbs of force, standing and physical labor. Previous industrial experience preferred. All candidates must satisfactorily complete a background and drug screen.

SHOULD YOU NEGOTIATE A RAISE WHEN YOU GET A PROMOTION? Picture it: You were tapped as THE candidate for an internal job. You interviewed with senior people, jumped ropes and hoops and got the job. You PROVED you are the right person for this new role. But you are not sure whether to ask for the raise.

You are not alone. Many of us feel as though the company will “do the right thing” and let us know if - and when - a raise will be associated with the promotion. But the longer we wait to have the discussions, the less control we have over the outcome. If you want a raise with a promotion, then ask for it. Because - if you are being given the promotion - you deserve the raise. Here’s how: Discuss the compensation with your current manager. When interviewing for an internal job, you will (or at least you should) meet with many individuals. But your closest relationship should be with your manager. And, your manager should be your advocate - selling you internally as the right candidate for the promotion. If your manager believes you are the right candidate, then your manager should believe you deserve a raise. During the interviewing process, ask your manager about the salary level associated with the new job. Discuss your expectations for the salary level. If the job is in a new grade/pay level, there should be a new bonus structure and other incentives/ benefits associated with the job. Find out about this during the process - don’t wait until afterwards. Discuss the compensation with your new manager. If you receive the promotion, you may end up with a new manager. Great. Here is an opportunity to start your working relationship on a positive note. Before asking about money, sit down with your new manager and discuss his/her expectations for you and this role. Ask how your performance will be measured. Once you have a discussion about how you will meet expectations and contribute to the group, ask your new manager what the compensation will be for this new role. Having the conversation in the context of overall performance sets the stage for being paid for your value and contributions. How to ask for more money if the pay level is lower than what you expected: Throughout the course of these discussions and interviews, you may determine

that the pay raise is appropriate and you are pleased with your new salary. But what if you were expecting more? Then you need to have the discussion NOW before the decision is final. Sit down with your manager and ask about the salary. Politely say “Based on my contributions and expectations for this new role, I would like to be paid $X for this new role.” Rather than say “I would like more money”, state would you would like. Exactly. Saying what you would like in actual terms takes the discussion away from sounding ungrateful or that you are greedy. Saying what you like in actual amounts is clear, concise and you are more likely to get it. If your manager responds with a list of constraints, listen. Then respond by saying again that you anticipate exceeding his/her expectations, was given the role because the company believes you can deliver and want to be valued by the company. If your manager continues to hem and haw, ask about how you can both work together to improve your compensation. Should you talk with HR? Most likely, your manager will ask for time. And that is OK. Your manager may return with the dollar value you asked for, a little less or none. Then you need to decide whether you will accept the promotion without the raise you expected. You can also ask for a review and raise in 6 months, to get you to where you expect to be paid. Most importantly, don’t leave the responsibility for your pay up to anyone else at the firm but you. You should get a car you can aﬀord and get rid of all the car payments. And, I’m sorry, but you are being arrogant when you think that you are too good to drive a Nissan. That’s one of those “get over it” things. Most people would be happy to have a nice car – no matter what brand it is. Now let’s think about Dear Abby. If you plan to leave your husband, shouldn’t you go for counseling or do something to repair the relationship instead of just deciding to put your family through such a horrible, life-changing event? You must have had a good relationship at one time, and it might be possible to regain that happiness if you both work on it. However, if there are too many diﬀerences to be bridged, you need to find someone who can counsel you in your next moves.

This will be a time for budgeting and making sure that you are not over- spending. Since you have no work experience, it might be best to get some more education so that you can get a better paying job. Actually saving money is a much better plan than some of the ideas people dream up in the name of saving money. When it comes to things like this, you need to sit down and do the math. Crunch some hard, cold ﬁgures and see what happens. “Well, if we got this kind of gas mileage, instead of what we’re getting now, how much money would we save?” But if you spend $5,000 more to save $50 it will take forever to get back the money you’ve already spent. Getting better gas mileage is good thing, but I wouldn’t recommend spending any more than the value of the car you’re currently driving to make it happen. Moving down in car but up in mileage is a great plan. If you do that, you’ll really start making headway with your money. This kind of scenario is a simple math thing, Trey. The problem is lots of times people’s emotions get caught up in stuff, and next thing you know they think they have a real reason to buy an expensive, new piece of automotive technology. I call that car fever, and it’ll wreck your ﬁnances in a hurry! —Dave
