Don't Be An
Interview Idiot! As a recruiter in the restaurant industry, I see candidates or job seekers do stupid things in the interview all day long. Obviously, we all have an idiot gene hidden in our bodies waiting to emerge somewhere down the road. If you really want to be an idiot and NOT get that new position or career opportunity you dream of follow these actions.
Nothing says you're an idiot like bad language in an interview. Make sure you trash talk or beat up your old boss in every response. In the seventh step you want to concentrate on how bad you hated that guy and why.
The first step in being a complete idiot is to arrive late. This could be 5 minutes or an hour just make sure you're late. Nothing says, "I don't care about this position", like being late.
This will surely tell them that you have no bounds when it comes to revealing things to complete outsiders and you are basically a very negative person.
Step two is to be rude to everyone at the interview. This could be the host or server who greets you as you enter or anyone else employed by the company. To be effective just be mean to everyone, which will really tell them that you're a complete idiot who can't get along with anyone!
Then in the eighth step beg them to not contact your previous employer about the funds you embezzled or the food you stole. Nothing says you're an idiot more than implying a guilty conscious that is hiding something critical to them hiring you.
Third, please make sure you answer all interview questions with very short and abrupt responses. Don't take anytime to go into your answers. Pretend you are on Jeopardy and answer all questions with questions. That could be fun and that will surely tell them you are an idiot who always runs with the pack and has no leadership potential whatsoever. Fourth, for the sake of being an idiot, make sure you don't ask any questions about the position or the company. Don't bring up goals or plans in the future because you will have plenty of time to think about those things later. Really show them you don't care about their company by saying you dined at a competitor the other day and loved it! In the fifth step, when they ask about yourself pretend you're in a holding cell and stone wall them until your lawyer gets there. Whatever you do don't be forthcoming about anything or discuss your abilities. If you absolutely have to be an idiot tell them about childhood experiences and your first pet.

Be sure to pepper your conversation with a few f-bombs to complete your idiot tendencies.
The sixth is all NOVEMBER 15,about 2019 cussing and using inappropriate language.
Make sure you lie about your accomplishments in the ninth step. An idiot lies about all of them! Tell them how you cured cancer and invented the Internet or anything else they want to hear. A complete idiot doesn't care about credibility or reference checks anyway. Even better tell them you didn't have any labor costs because you paid everyone with cash. Finally when the interview gets up and is ready to shake hands, don't bother! Storm out of there like a bat out of hell and never look back. Nothing says you're an idiot like being impolite and displaying no manners. Mission accomplished! Now obviously, this was written to assist you in the pursuit of happiness and to find that next great career. By doing the exact opposite of these actions, you will find yourself at the beginning of the road to preparation to land that dream job. Just remember be kind and courteous to others, be formal and professional, be on time, be honest and open with your answers and market your abilities whenever you can in an interview. Does the amount you advise saving for a beginner emergency fund in Baby Step 1 double for a couple, or does it stay the same?
Dear Dave,
Charlie Dear Charlie, Whether you’re single or married, Baby Step 1 of my plan is to save $1,000 as quickly as possible for a starter emergency fund. This may not sound like a lot of cash to have on-hand in the event of an emergency, but you need to remember the $1,000 figure is a temporary thing. Baby Step 1 is saving up $1,000 for a beginner emergency fund. Baby Step 2 is paying off all debt, except your home. The vast majority of folks working my plan are debt-free, except for their mortgage, in two years or less. Then, you move to Baby Step 3, which is increasing your emergency fund from $1,000 to three-to-six months of household expenses. In reality, we’re talking about a pretty short period of time where you’d have just $1,000 in emergency savings. Plus, it serves as an exercise in financial discipline. A lot of people have nothing saved before beginning the Baby Steps.
We recently started following your plan, and it has made a huge difference in our financial outlook and our marriage. When it comes to the Baby Steps, when do you recommend setting aside money for a wedding? We have a daughter, and we want to be able to do as much as possible for her when the time comes. Jim Dear Jim, That’s a good question. There’s not really a Baby Step specifically for weddings. In my mind, it should probably come after Baby Step 5— setting aside a college fund for your kids. Maybe part of this is the dad in me, but in prioritizing these things I think a good education is more important than a big wedding. Don’t get me wrong, a wedding is a wonderful event and cause for lots of joy and celebration. But it’s also a one-day event. Plenty of people have inexpensive, beautiful weddings, and enjoy long, wonderful lives together! —Dave
If that makes things seem a little scary at the start, it’s not necessarily a bad thing. A healthy level of fear can be a fantastic motivator. I don’t want anyone constantly living their lives in fear, but that added push—that sense of urgency—can make you work harder to get out of debt, and move on the Baby Step 3, as quickly as possible! —Dave

In my Job Search class full of Baby Boomers looking to land that new job, there were many questions about creating a compelling LinkedIn Profile. One Boomer asked me what was the most significant misstep people make on LinkedIn. To be clear, LinkedIn is a recruiting and networking tool. Ninety-four percent of recruiters say they are using LinkedIn daily to look for talent. Employers use LinkedIn’s extensive database with 154 million U.S. members, and more people adding a profile each day. The great advantage of this network is that it has the capability for employers to find you and email you immediately to determine any interest you may have in their job opening. It is a slick recruiting tool for employers. Unfortunately, so many job hunters have no clue how to write their LinkedIn profile. I see so many profiles that are poorly written –they certainly don’t advertise your skills or abilities, and you miss a vital opportunity to attract employers.
So what is the biggest mistake that people make on LinkedIn? Is it not having a photo? No, though, employers say they are seven times more likely to reach out to someone with a friendly, smiling face using a plain background photo of themselves. Could it be not having a background picture instead of the default blue? While adding a background has a positive impact on your profile and shows you have tech skills, it’s not the critical mistake if you don’t have one. Is it comprehensive job descriptions under each position you’ve had? No, but shorter descriptions that highlight only significant accomplishments achieved do work better.

Does skipping volunteer work matter? Employers like to see you give back to the community. What about skills and recommendations, are they the big mistake? No, although employers love to see recommendations from former bosses, clients, and coworkers. You want to have these on your profile. If they aren’t recent, add a few more So what is the #1 Mistake people make on LinkedIn? They are ineffective in creating their headline. The headline is the most searched piece of all of LinkedIn, especially by HR and recruiters. By default, LinkedIn populates this field with your job title. Yet, the headline is the most searched field by recruiters. The strategic way to use these two lines is to place keywords about your desired job title, your specialty area of interest, and the critical skills you have to offer. Here is an example from what my client had done and how I changed it to put the more effective keywords in the Headline field. Client Headline: Attorney @Smith & Brown This above was Julie’s Headline. She worked for a local firm and did not have anything a recruiter might search. During our Career Counseling session, I learned that she was specialized in employment law and wanted a job as an HR attorney. I rewrote her headline to say: NEW HEADLINE: Employment Law I Attorney I HR Attorney l Human Resource Lawyer This latest headline allowed recruiters to find her if they wanted an employment or HR lawyer. Notice we use HR, and the words spelled out “Human Resource’” as you never know how the recruiter will type for the search. Improving the keywords in your headline is the most powerful thing you can do to make yourself standout.
Analyze Your Headline Review what you have listed in the “headline” area. If it is the default of just your job title, you need to improve it. You have two lines. Maximize them by advertising your top skill, job titles sought, and note any industry or specialty areas. Notice that we use the lower case L “l” to separate the keywords or phrases. This is important to allow for the appropriate words to come up in the recruiter or potential customer search. These changes will have the most impact on your Profile. Next, be sure to use keywords that may include short results-orientated phrases to allow a recruiter, potential customer, or would-be-connection to find you. I am confident that I would quickly coordinate the project team to achieve the company objectives.
After your job interview follow up with a thank you letter within two days. This is always recommended, but the majority of candidates do not take the time to write. Here are some of the top reasons why it is important to write a thank you letter to your interviewer: •
It puts you in mind of the person who interviewed you. It's like advertising you, the candidate, to your interviewer.

It tells the interviewer that you follow through and follow up.
•

Thank you again for your time and considering me for this opportunity.
It shows the interviewer that you have written communication skills. This is especially important when that is listed as a job requirement in the job description. It tells the interviewer that you are courteous and take time to say thank you.
What you write in your interview follow up thank you letter should be specific and not general. You do not want to write a generic thank you that could be sent to any company and could be from any candidate. Here is a generic sample thank you letter:
Dear Mr. Hirem: I enjoyed meeting you yesterday and hearing about your opportunity. I am very interested in joining your company. Thank you for your time interviewing me. Sincerely, Jane Generick

At least a thank you letter was sent, but you can see this fits any company and any job. This is not the best note to send. There is also nothing in this thank you about your abilities. Remember that the thank you letter is a reminder advertisement about you.
Start with talking about the company, not about you. Review the job description and relate your words to that. Think of what caused you to apply. What was it that said, "I can do that job," and then refer to those words. In the sample letter below the candidate uses the words in the job description that said, "Experience in branding product lines."

It is clear that he is very interested in this job. Should you mail your interview thank you letter, or email it? I prefer the postal service. Here's why: •
Emails can be easily deleted by mistake, often before they are read.
•
Executives can easily get 75-100 emails per day, and your interviewer may not get to yours for days.
•
Executives do not receive as many pieces of mail at work, since email is so widely used, so your letter will stand out.
There are some exceptions to mailing. Let's say your interviewer mentioned that he would be in your city, away from the home office for the rest of the week. Your interview was Monday. You always want to send your thank you letter within two days of your interview. In this case, I recommend sending an email, but still mailing your interview follow up thank you letter. You can word the two letters slightly differently, so they are not the same. This way you are covered. You emailed a thank you letter for timely reasons, since the interviewer was away from his office. You mailed the thank you letter within 48 hours after the interview. You have a back up plan, if the email is either deleted, or not read. If both letters are read, it emphasis to your interviewer that you are interested in the job and that you follow through. It is important to take the time, write your interviewer a thank you letter and send it. You will stand out from the crowd of candidates in a postive way. What about skills and recommendations, are they the big mistake? No, although employers love to see recommendations from former bosses, clients, and coworkers. You want to have these on your profile. If they aren’t recent, add a few more So what is the #1 Mistake people make on LinkedIn? They are ineffective in creating their headline. The headline is the most searched piece of all of LinkedIn, especially by HR and recruiters. By default, LinkedIn populates this field with your job title. Yet, the headline is the most searched field by recruiters. The strategic way to use these two lines is to place keywords about your desired job title, your specialty area of interest, and the critical skills you have to offer. Here is an example from what my client had done and how I changed it to put the more effective keywords in the Headline field. Client Headline: Attorney @Smith & Brown This above was Julie’s Headline. She worked for a local firm and did not have anything a recruiter might search. During our Career Counseling session, I learned that she was specialized in employment law and wanted a job as an HR attorney. I rewrote her headline to say:

Analyze Your Headline Review what you have listed in the “headline” area. If it is the default of just your job title, you need to improve it. You have two lines. Maximize them by advertising your top skill, job titles sought, and note any industry or specialty areas. Notice that we use the lower case L “l” to separate the keywords or phrases. This is important to allow for the appropriate words to come up in the recruiter or potential customer search. These changes will have the most impact on your Profile.
