'What's Your Greatest Weakness?'
How To Handle The
Interview Question
BY Robin Ryan, #1 Wall Street Journal Besting Author of 60 Seconds & You’re Hired During a recent class I taught on interviewing, this Baby Boomer came up and asked me how to deal with nervousness. She knew it was the reason why she failed at interviews. Alan Carniol owns a job search training company, called Interviewsuccessformula.com. He said he has personally dealt with this issue. Carniol is a five foot six, freckled, quiet guy who made all the mistakes possible when he went into job interviews. His stomach was doing somersaults and he got tongue-tied because he was so nervous. “I excelled at my job,” note Carniol, “but I assumed if I’m good at something so is everybody else. I never saw my unique strengths, and when I went to a job interview, I just was so very nervous I could not promote myself effectively.” Carniol had a career as a Finance consultant who worked with governments. He got an M.B.A. from Yale and “I completely bombed all my jobs interviews because of my nervousness,” he revealed. He realized that he needed to do something significant with his life, and his solution was his own business helping other people find meaningful work. In 2011, he started working with Baby Boomer clients, most of whom had not interviewed in quite a while. In 2012, he created an excellent animated video on how job seekers could overcome nervousness, and answer some of the more difficult interview questions. He addressed what typically goes wrong in the interview, identifying three big mistakes that people make. Those included: #1. You can’t articulate about yourself and why you’re the perfect fit for the job #2 You are unprepared and can’t give the right answers to the tough behavioral interview questions #3 You’re too nervous “I created some solutions to being nervous, which was to think of yourself as if you were a superhero. Stand tall and think about projecting back that superhero self-confidence when you go into the interview. Realize that nervousness is something everybody feels a little bit or a lot. Don’t let it debilitate you. Instead, tell yourself this is just my extra energy. Bruce Springsteen said he gets nervous before every performance and he just called it performance juice.” To control your nerves, according to Harvard research, this one step can decrease the stress of the hormones in your body by 25% and boost confidence by 20%. All you do is strike a pose like a superhero, park your hands above your head in a victory stance. This pose will help you trick your body into feeling like you are a champion, he suggested.

Dave Says BY DAV E R A M S E Y
Dave Ramsey is America’s trusted voice on money & business. He has authored five New York Times best-selling books, including The Total Money Makeover. The Dave Ramsey Show is heard by more than 8.5 million listeners each week on more than 550 radio stations. Follow Dave on Twitter at @DaveRamsey & on the web at daveramsey.com.
HONESTY AND TOGETHERNESS Dear Dave, I’ve never hidden debt from my husband, but I do hide money from him on occasion. I don’t hide it for my personal use, but I have been setting money aside for emergencies without his knowledge. He’s not terrible with money, and he works very hard, but he always seems to find something to spend it on. We were never able to save much of anything before I started doing this, but recently I’ve begun to feel bad about doing it. Can you give me some advice? Penny Dear Penny, I’m glad you seem to be re-thinking this strategy. I believe in saving up for emergencies and having an emergency fund of three to six months of expenses in place. But deception in any form is never a positive thing in a relationship—especially a marriage. I know it won’t be easy, but you have to let him know what you’ve been doing. You also need to make sure you tell him in the right way. Even though your intentions may have been good—getting into better financial shape— you’ve deceived him by doing it the way you did. Make some time for just the two of you. Sit down with him, and let him know what has happened and that you’re sorry for not being completely honest about it all. Explain that the reason you hid the money was that you didn’t want to speak up about how it was being handled in your marriage. Ask him to forgive you, and let him know you won’t do it again, but explain, too, how important it is that the two of you work together on saving more, spending less, and getting control of your finances. Managing money in a marriage is a “we” thing. Decisions should always be made—here’s that word again—together. It means you each have a vote, and it also means you should stand up and vote “no” if he wants to spend money on something silly when you don’t have your financial house in order! —Dave

Safety & Health of Welders
- Do Not Forget It
By Jennifer L. Jenkins Welding and Cutting can be a very dangerous occupation or past time. With this said, I intend to give you some of my professional advice, and a special heart-felt plea! Please! Before starting any kind of welding or cutting operation, you are responsible for your safety and also the safety of others in the vicinity of the operation. So, what should you do first in order to maintain safety? First things first, make sure your welding equipment is installed properly according to the National Electrical Code and any state and local codes that apply. Make sure its grounded properly and in good working condition. A good resource for a welder to have is a copy of the NEC code book.
Now, before doing any welding, what is the first thing you should do? Answer: Always search out the area at least 35 ft. looking for flammable, volatile, or explosive materials. Make sure the work area is clean and free of hazards. If it is necessary to splice lengths of welding cable together, make sure all electrical connections are tight and insulated. Do not use cables with frayed, cracked or bare spots in the insulation. Wire stubs on the floor are safety hazards. Therefore, always discard of electrode stubs in proper containers. When welding, keep your head out of the fumes. Use mechanical exhaust at the point of welding whenever welding brass, bronze, lead, cadmium, chromium, manganese, zinc, or galvanized steel. When the electrode holder or torch is not being used, hang it up on brackets. Never let it come in contact with a compressed gas cylinder. Speaking of compressed gas cylinders, always handle them with extreme care. keep caps on when not in use. Make sure compressed gas cylinders are always secured to the wall or to other structural supports. When transporting compressed gas cylinders they should always be in the vertical position and secured, not lying down horizontal in the back of a pick up truck. When a compressed gas cylinder is empty, close the valve and mark the cylinder "EMPTY". Obviously, there are a lot of hazards when welding. Confined spaces are especially dangerous, so take special precautions, have someone ready to pull you out if you get overcome. Do not weld on containers that have held combustibles without taking special precautions. Do not weld on sealed containers or compartments without providing vents and taking special precautions. Never weld around degreasing operations. When your working above ground, make sure that scaffold, ladder, or work surface is solid and properly secured. If you are working in high places without railings, always use a safety belt or lifeline. Another concern is electricity and water in the same area is a potential hazard. When using water-cooled equipment, always check for leakage. If you are welding in a damp or wet area, wear rubber boots and stand on a platform. Make sure you always read and understand all applicable Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) that may be used in any welding application. Make sure you use the appropriate shade lens in your welding helmet with a clear lens on the outside to protect the shaded lens. The American Welding Society has a number system for lenses that's based on the amount of amperage you are welding with.
30
JULY 12, 2019
The higher the amperage the higher the number, for instance, 8,9,10, 11, 12, 13, 14, etc. An 8 or 9 lens would be a lot lighter than a 12. Make sure to have your eyes checked at least once a year and if you need prescription glasses, wear them. Arc burn is no fun so make sure your eyes are protected and all skin is covered up. It only takes about 15 - 20 minutes from an arc that is approximately 10,000 degrees F, on exposed skin, to produce a severe burn. So always be careful. It's important to remember to shield others from the light rays produced by the welding arc. People who are not use to being around welding do not understand that staring at the arc with unprotected eyes can hurt them, they tend to be fascinated by the extremely bright light associated with welding. Always follow lockout/tagout procedures and if your on the job and you have a supervisor, notify him immediately of any problems or potential hazards. These are some of the life threatening situations you may encounter as a welder, so always, always, be educated and prepared. If you add welding into an industrial or manufacturing type setting, now it becomes even more dangerous and there are even more hazards to consider. So, as you all can see welding is dangerous, but, if you follow the rules, you should have a safe and enjoyable career or hobby.
If you are interested in welding, and would like more free information resources about welding, like videos, articles, tips, and more, then Jennifer L. Jenkins would like you to visit her blog at [http://www.welding-inform.free9fastcashvideos.com] VOL. 24 ISSUE 1200
Article Source: https://EzineArticles.com/expert/Jennifer_L._Jenkins/890030
Next, you must dress for success. Unlike some of the popular cable shows, you should always wear protective clothing suitable for the welding to be done. Never weld, grind, or cut without proper safety glasses that are approved by ANSI Z49.1, even under your hood while welding. You only get 1 pair of eyes, so its especially important to take care of them.

How To Become A
Diesel Mechanic And Get The Proper Training There are definitely a couple different roads you can take that will lead you in the right direction on your journey to becoming a diesel mechanic, and surprisingly very few requirements, which are: •
•
• •
You will need to have a high school diploma, or one of the equivalents, such as a HSED or a GED. You must have the capabilities to problemsolve and troubleshoot as well as have strong maintenance and mechanical skills. You will need to finish the fundamental training required. You will need to complete the necessary certification required.
Article Source: https://EzineArticles.com/expert/Brad_W_Davidson/1543028
The necessary certification to become a diesel mechanic can differ from state to state. States like Michigan, Hawaii, New York and California require each individual shop must have repair certificates, and in some cases may require the individual mechanic to be certified as well. This certification comes from the state itself and not from an outside governing body such as the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE).
42
You will be required to pass tests before you can own or possibly even work in a shop, depending on the state. While becoming certified through ASE testing is still the recommended course to advancing your career and knowledge as a diesel mechanic, states like Hawaii require that you register for, take and pass a separate exam they deliver form the University of Hawaii. Michigan is another state with unique requirements for anyone looking to become a diesel mechanic, and if you want to be compensated as a mechanic there, you will need to pass the states test and earn your certificate. Where Do You Apply? While each state may be a little different in where you can actually apply, you can get help from the Secretary of State branches in Michigan or in Hawaii you can find the forms online at the States' website. All of the important information, including printable applications that include more detailed instructions and step by step walk-through on how to proceed can also be found online through each respective State's websites. JULY 12, 2019
Where Do You Find Training? You are going to have multiple avenues in which you can follow to get trained to help you in your career as a diesel service technician. You can also find training through apprenticeship programs offered through many of the major freight trucking companies, and even within your home town, through any company that offers this type of on the job training. You can find offerings for diesel engine repair and diesel mechanic training at most community and technical colleges in your area, and it's even possible to find these programs at larger colleges and universities. Some states allow for existing experience and even high school training to count towards any requirement in regards to time actually spent working on vehicles, and ASE certification can also help towards gaining your states required certification. Finding the necessary training that you will need to be successful in your diesel technician training is as easy as heading down to your local diesel repair shop and inquiring about a job and training there. Also, enrolling in one of the postsecondary schools mentioned before is another really great way for you to find the training you will need to become a diesel mechanic, as you'll be able to learn inside a classroom as well as receive the hands-on training necessary for success in these diesel mechanic courses. VOL. 24 ISSUE 1200
Become an
Aircraft Mechanic
Aircraft and avionics technicians and mechanics perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on aircraft and helicopters. In 2010 there were 142,300 employed mechanics. By 2020 the forecast is 6% growth rate of aviation maintenance jobs, about 9,000 positions. This growth rate is a slower rate of growth than the overall growth rate projected for all jobs till 2020. How does one become an aircraft mechanic or technician? It is not required to have a college degree but it may be helpful to have a degree to obtain your first job. Most mechanics and technicians learn their trade at an FAA-Approved Aviation Maintenance Technician School. Course work may last 18-24 months. About 30% of all aviation schools offer college degrees. The student may obtain a two (2) or four (4) year degree at selected schools. Recently employers are considering candidates for aviation maintenance positions more favorably on those applicants with a four (4) year degree. Other aviation schools offer technical academic and practical courses. Aircraft trade schools offer an emphasis in airframe composite, avionics, jet engines, wiring, aircraft systems and much more. Additional courses are required in mathematics, electronics, computer science, mechanical drawing, F.A.A. regulations and much more. To obtain certification as a mechanic the FAA offers separate certifications, one for airframe mechanics and one for engine mechanics, (A&P) certificate. The minimum qualifications to become a mechanic is; be at least 18 years of age, be fluent in English, and have 30 months of experience working on airframes and engines. The completion of a certified school program at an approved FAA Aviation Maintenance Technician School can substitute for the experience requirement.
Article Source: https://EzineArticles.com/expert/Norwood_A_McDaniel/1226418
Applicants must pass oral and practical tests administered by an FAA Designated Mechanic Examiner. To obtain the certification all tests must be passed within two (2) years of the initial application date of testing. Testing may be taken at designated testing facilities around the world. Mechanics must inspect or repair aircraft every 90 days and attend a refresher course every 24 months to maintain license certification. The daily job of an A&P mechanic may at times be stressful. They must meet aircraft flight schedule departure times, maintain aircraft safety and repair aircraft in difficult work environments. Occasionally mechanics are asked to work numerous hours beyond the standard work day and more than five days per week. In North America wages in the profession may range from $33,000 to $72,000. The median wage in 2010 was $53,000.

Continued from page 6
Being unprepared and not being able to come up with the right answers to the tough interview questions will detour anyone. A hard question is, What’s your biggest weakness? You may have heard employers ask this question but how prepared are you to answer it? Having been the person asking the interview questions, I found many people gave me a good reason not to hire them for the job. I always recommend you offer a moot point that doesn’t impact how you do the job, or, shows what you’ve learned and how you are improving that weakness. Carniol said he advises job hunters to say something like this. “I’m someone who keeps a busy schedule and enjoys getting a lot done but at times it’s hard for me to take a step back and get perspective I’ve learned that I need to push myself to look around for more efficient solutions and be sure that I delegate work to others to be as effective as possible.” This answer points out that the applicant is someone who keeps her schedule busy and enjoys getting a lot done. She addressed her weakness by saying, at times, it’s hard for me to take a step back and gain perspective – note her correction. I’ve learned that I need to push myself to look around for more efficient solutions and be sure that I delegate work to others to be as effective as possible. Another good example is to say, “I consider myself to be creative and imaginative and I enjoy developing new approaches to solving problems, but I needed to recognize that a new approach may be less effective than the tried-and-true. I am careful not to always push for the new way and to learn how others have been successfully doing it before.” Carniol offered a breakdown of why this works. Lead with a strength, I consider myself to be creative and imaginative, and I enjoy developing new approaches to solving problems. Great then the weakness, but I needed to recognize that a new approach may be less useful than the tried-and-true. Ending with his correction, I am careful not to always push for the new way and to learn how others have been successful before me. You need to develop an honest but effective answer you can use before the interview starts. You’re not going to get a second chance, and you must be genuine and authentic in your response. I always advise my interview coaching clients to write out answers to the common questions you’ll likely be asked, especially the hard ones. Then, rehearse them with a friend playing the interviewer. Practice until you feel confident, and you have your nervousness under control. The more prepared you are, the better you’ll do when you sit across from the employer.
