The traditional mode of education is still the most popular and the most expensive among all. Distance learning is not very popular as it doesn't give the best mode of education for the students and also lacks in the provision of knowledge. Online courses is however, getting more and more popular with each passing day and is also less expensive and, in some cases, even is free. Neglecting distance learning for this post only, we can compare the traditional and the online mode of education. A student enrolled in an online mode of education can get education from short courses to degree programs, whereas a traditional mode of education, for sure will provide every type of education to every class of student. There are online universities, colleges and other institutes providing online courses and then there are regular institutes providing education to both the traditional and the online students. Would it be a good idea to transfer the balance from my credit card to another one that has a much lower interest rate? Tammi Dear Tammi, Lots of people who find themselves in your shoes make the switch to low-interest rate credit cards. A lower interest rate will help you save a little money in the short-term, but the drawback is it can also make you feel like you’ve addressed your problem with debt when you really haven’t. You’ve got to change the behavior and the mindset that put you in that situation in the first place. Besides, most lowinterest, or no-interest, credit card offers are only good for a short period of time. There’s always a catch! I discovered long ago that personal finance is only about 20 percent head knowledge and 80 percent behavior. Emotion is a key element to getting out of debt and staying out of debt. You’ve got to get really mad at debt, the impact it has on your financial life, and attack it with a vengeance. Think about how many times debt has been a negative influence on your life. My guess is there were many occasions in the past when you could have done great stuff—I’m talking about meaningful, important things—if you hadn’t had to send a bunch of money to those bozos at the credit card company every month. I want you to really think about it. How about this? First, cut up your credit card and close the account. Then, sell some stuff and take a part-time job nights or weekends for just a little while. You could wipe out all your debt in less than a year by doing that and starting to live on a strict, written, monthly budget. If you don’t get mad about it and take a stand against debt, and become determined you’re never going to fall into that trap again, you’re liable to find yourself back in the same situation or worse! —Dave

HOW TO KEEP BACK TO SCHOOL TIME FROM BUSTING YOUR BUDGET BY RACHEL CRUZE I remember as I was growing up, I always thought school was free. I mean, I understood that private school costs money, but I went to public school, and I didn’t think a whole lot about the expenses associated with it. Now that I’m older, I realize how much parents actually spend on their kids when they go back to school. In fact, the National Retail Federation reports parents plan to spend $696 on back-to-school supplies this year. Isn’t that crazy? There are the obvious school supplies like notebooks, markers (my favorite!), and backpacks. And as a kid, I always needed new clothes and shoes. But there’s not-so-obvious ones that nickeland-dime you to death. One of my coworkers told me that he had to buy football gear for his son that totaled $260. Understandably, it gave him a bit of sticker shock. There’s nothing wrong with paying for this kind of thing if you have the money, but you still need to have a plan for how you’re going to pay for it. As the school year is gearing back up, it’s important to make a list of things you need to budget for. So, think about these categories and come up with a dollar amount you plan to spend in each one: • • • • •

School supplies Uniforms Sports equipment Fall clothes and shoes Meal plans

Fees for clubs, sports, band, and other extracurricular activities I’d like to point out that this is a great time of year to teach your kids that money isn’t in infinite supply. Going Back to College? Eight Advantages You Have That May Surprise You By Dr. Sandra Gibson Are you going back to college after some time -maybe yearsaway? Or, is this your first time in college? Are you worried because you're an older student who has been out of school for a few years? Every year, thousands of older students enroll in colleges across the country. It's a growing trend, and it's a good thing. College offers the chance to prepare for advancement at work or an entirely new career. Or, perhaps you finally have the time to just enjoy learning for its own sake. Whatever your reasons for returning to campus, you are not alone. When you look around the class, you'll see plenty of folks who have been out in the work force, have had families, or who are retired. You'll see lots of white hair and bald heads mixed in with the recent high-school grads-and you'll see every generation in between.

College is not just for eighteen-year-olds any more. But if you're an adult returning to college (or going for the first time), you almost certainly are worried about it. You may be concerned about keeping up with younger students. Your study skills may be rusty--or nonexistent). You may be stressed out about balancing your time between school and other responsibilities. Success in college can mean a lot to your future, especially if you are changing job directions or preparing for a new career. And that adds anxiety, too.

Real Advantages of Being an Older Student You may be surprised to hear that older students actually have many advantages over your younger classmates. But it's true. If you take advantage of your experience and knowledge, and spend a little time sharpening your study skills with resources like on-campus workshops or books by study experts, you may find yourself (to your surprise) at the top of the class. It happens every day, in every college. It's true. Older students have real advantages in college. Here are eight stress-busting points to consider as you prepare to return to school:

1. Older students are much more focused on their goals.

Whatever your particular reasons for going back to school, you're likely quite clear about what they are. You have no intention of wasting time, because you don't have time to waste. Younger students, especially those just out of high school, often test the limits of their new freedoms; they may be much more focused on partying and friends than you are. They are much more likely to stay out late, sleep in, and miss classes and assignments. You won't be doing that, because you know the value of your time. Clear focus is a tremendous advantage for any college student. And you probably have it.

Since you are more focused, you are almost certainly more motivated. You know where you are going, why you are in school, and you will work steadily toward reaching your goals. As you'll see when you look around, some younger students don't seem motivated at all. Your goal may be simply graduation so you will have the diploma you need for the next step in your life. Or you may have more specific objectives. Either way, you know where you are going, and you see college as your route to get there On many campuses there is a continuing competition among Greek organizations for the highest GPA each semester. During the years I taught at Georgia State University, this honor almost always went to Mu Rho Sigma, the sorority for married (and formerly married) women students. Even though these women were often far busier then their younger classmates, they made better grades. This is not accidental. It's an advantage that older students have.

You are much more likely than your younger classmates to be a good time manager because of your life experiences. If you have a family, and a job as well, you know that you have to be adept at managing your time. In fact, your time is probably your most precious resource and you won't be inclined to waste it. Good time-management skills are a huge advantage for older students. VOL. 24 ISSUE 1206

You can, in fact, save yourself a lot of time by learning (or brushing up) on vital college study skills (including timemanagement). You don't have to reinvent the wheel because lots of good study-skills resources are easily available for you, both on your campus and in excellent books and DVDs. A little time spent now to sharpen your skills will pay off in multiple ways.

Older students have usually been in the workforce and understand how to act in business and social situations, so you won't be inclined to wear your baseball hat in class, or chew gum, talk during a lecture, or sit in front of the professor texting or surfing the web. You understand that behaving this way is rude, and you are much more likely to treat your teachers as you'd treat any professional.

4. Since you have had more experiences in your life,

This seems like a simple thing, doesn't it? Treat other people with respect and consideration. But you'll be surprised to discover that all students aren't polite-and you'll stand out because you are.

you'll usually bring more understanding and perspective to classes. If you're studying history, or marketing, or almost any subject, you will be able to put it in a more personal context because you've lived longer and experienced more. Younger students can't help it that they are young, but they won't remember the Beatles, Viet Nam, the Berlin Wall-or life before computers and smartphones. You have the huge advantage of knowing more about the world because you've lived in it longer.

5. You will doubtlessly understand, in a way younger

students cannot, the value of your money. Chances are that you are paying for college yourself, so you will work hard to get your money's worth. This starts with simply going to class. Do the math and you can easily figure out how much each class session costs-and if you are writing the checks, you won't allow yourself to waste money by skipping classes.

Research clearly shows that the single best predictor of success in college is simply going to class. While some of your younger classmates may be casual about attendance, older students usually make a big effort to go to class and get their money's worth from the experience.

6. Since you are aware of costs and are working to

manage your time well, you're more likely to take advantage of all the resources and help that colleges offer today. You may feel that you need some assistance, and it is common for older students to take advantage of tutors, reference librarians, study-skills classes, the university counseling center, the job-placement center, and other services on campus. Resources offered by your school probably also include lots of non-academic things that are available free or at greatly reduced price to students. These may include gyms, pools, tracks, movies, concerts, plays, lectures, exhibits and many other activities and services. Since most older students are very aware of costs, they are also more likely to take advantage of all the things included in fees.

7. Because you are older, you will have had much more

experience with all kinds of people, and you probably will naturally understand how to interact with professors and instructors. College teachers often complain that younger students are rude, sometimes astoundingly so. Since professors are human, they notice such behavior. Who wouldn't? VOL. 24 ISSUE 1206

And it does make a difference.

8. You are likely to make connections with other adult

students, and these friendships can be very supportive. Other students who have jobs, or families, or both, will be struggling just as you are with time management issues, for example, and you can often exchange helpful tips and strategies. And, when older students work on group projects, you are less likely to let the group meetings turn into strictly social events. You don't have time to waste, so you will stay focused on the assignment. When you look around your classes, you'll see plenty of older students. You'll be surprised at the size and value of this peer group, and you will enjoy their company because you'll have so much in common.

With All These Advantages, Older Students Can Excel In College So, now, when you walk into a classroom and see lots of students who are right out of high school, you won't be stressed out because they have more youthful energy than you do. Just realize, instead, that you have all the advantages we've discussed because you are older. When you think about all you've done in life, the places you've been, and the things you know, you might be surprised at all the advantages you bring to college--just because you are an older student. Learn to use these advantages and you'll enjoy college more. You'll be a lot less stressed out. And your grades will probably show it, too.

Students are unable to get the facility of any recreational and sports activities, a traditional student can get. As this mode requires an internet connection and a computer system, and these are meant to be effected by any natural or unnatural cause, their education can be affected badly.
