WELCOME I would like to welcome the Glasgow Rocks, to the Sir David Wallace Arena here at the Loughborough University, for tonight’s BBL Championship game. The Rocks are becoming familiar opponents for us this season as the team will look to seal the season series over our visitors with a victory tonight.
Congratulations to our Women’s team who were named as Team of the Year at the Charnwood Sports Award this past week. As well, Head Coach Matthew Harber was named as Coach of the Year. Both are great achievements for the club and shows how much great work the Women’s side of the programme does.
We have a new face in the team this week. I would like to welcome TrayVonn Wright to the Leicester Riders and I am sure that you will do the same at tonight’s game. TrayVonn joins the team having graduated from North Dakota State this summer and we are all really excited to see him take the floor with our team.

FAMILIAR FACES This is the fourth time we have played this season so both teams should have no trouble with the scouting report! Each time we have played it has been a very competitive game so we expect nothing less today. Last week we won one and lost one. Saturday we had moments where we looked very good, I thought we ran the floor very well and at times really moved the basketball. We also had periods of play where we were ineffective and sloppy, but we certainly did enough to come away with the win. Sunday was always going to be tough, a quick turnaround and a tough opponent but early we showed some life and went into halftime in good position. Second half we struggled to get things going on both ends of the floor, they did a good job of stopping us on defence , we really struggled to score. It reminded me of our only other loss in the league at Glasgow, long droughts where we were unable to put the ball in the basket and unfortunately we couldn’t get enough stops on defence to stay in the game. The league is going to be very challenging for everyone, every game will be a grind. We are now in a good position at 8-2 and look forward to getting back on to the court this evening. Glasgow Rocks are quickly becoming the most familiar opponent of the Leicester Riders. This will be the fourth time the two sides have faced off this season. The Rocks currently lead the season series 2-1 following victories at home and in the BBL Cup. The Riders will look to event the season series and avenge the last second defeat dealt to the Leicester team by a clutch three point heave from Kieron Achara which gracefully glanced off the backboard and into net for the win to stun the home crowd into silence.

Sterling Davies remains sidelined following knee surgery that will keep him there until after the Christmas break so the Rocks will look to import player, JJ Smith as well as home grown talent in Tayo Ogedengbe and Great Britain Olympian Kieron Achara to come up big once more for the Scottish side.

LAMBLE’S RAMBLE Last weekend started off so well with a strong win over Surrey United. I thought we played quite well, especially on the offensive end, putting up over 100 points.
were the better team on the night but I still left that game extremely annoyed knowing that we had come all the way back to have a chance to win it.
Defensively I thought we gave up too many points but at the same time Surrey are a good team and have a lot of offensive threats especially with the addition of Downing who I thought added a lot to that team.
This game is even more important as this will decide who wins the ‘head to head’ in the league for the season as it stands it’s 1-1 at the moment.
Sunday last week was a different story though, we started off well in the first half but in the second half we let ourselves down and stopped playing ‘our’ game, instead playing into the hands of the Lions. It is tough to lose to to ex-players in Drew and Ziare, I like seeing ex-players doing well at other clubs just not when playing us! Anyway, onwards and upwards with another game against Glasgow and if there is any team I feel that we owe already this season it is them. Once again, I give them credit for their last win against us and I feel they

Even with David Wallace being a lot bigger a venue than the John Sandford at times last week the atmosphere rivalled that of the JSSC. If I could personally thank every single one of you fans for that I would, but because I can’t do that, I hope that you accept my thanks here. I hope you accept by making just as much, if not more, noise tonight. #RidersFamily

WELCOME
TRAYVONN WRIGHT TrayVonn Wright will join the Leicester Riders out of North Dakota State University for the remainder of the 2014/15 season. The 22 year old, 6’7” forward will provide the Riders with additional length and athleticism on the wing and a great shot blocking presence inside for the team. The Iowa native opted to attend North Dakota State University where, he averaged an awesome 12 points, 5 rebounds and 2 blocks per game for the NDSU Bison in his senior year. Wright also lead the team in blocked shots for a fourth consecutive season. TrayVonn started all games as a Senior, helping to lead his team to a very successful NCAA Division One season and to a number 12 seed in the NCAA Tournament. NDSU knocked of the number five seed Oklahoma in overtime of the opening round of the tournament behind Wright’s 14 points and 5 rebound performance before losing out to San Diego State in the second round. TrayVonn is no doubt an exciting addition to the Riders roster so look out for him in today’s game and check back next week when we will feature a full length interview with the newest member of the team.

IMS 3x3
LOUGHBOROUGH IMS
3X3 Loughborough’s IMS programme, in partnership with the Leicester Riders, hosted their annual one day 3x3 tournament. This year’s tournament featured yet more teams battling it out across the three courts of the Sir David Wallace building. The 64 Men’s and Women’s teams makes the tournament one of the biggest in the UK. The teams competed throughout the day to be named IMS 3x3 Champion of 2014. In the Women’s Division, Falk Egg took the Championship following an undefeated run to the final, knocking off Towers in the final. On the Men’s side, Royce were named Champions. Following an overtime victory in the semi-final of the event, Royce cruised to victory in the final.

U18 NATIONAL LEAGUE
WINNING WAYS Charnwood College continued their great start to their first ever U18 National League season. The team captures first and second year A-Level aged students of Charnwood College part of the Leicester Riders Basketball Academy. Following a opening 105-21 victory to open the season the team have opened a four game winning streak in the competition as part of their undefeated start to the 2014/15 season. Head Coach Josh Merrington’s team continue to impress and develop as big man Henri Langton and athletic guard Andre Arissol were both named to the England U18 team. Both Langton and Arissol excelled at the camp progressing through to the camp with the England U18 squad. The teams most recent victory featured a huge six threes from freshman David Issekya as the team cruised to a 98-54 win against the Northants Thunder. Next up the team face local competition Leicester Dynamite on December 13th at Fullhurst Community College as they aim to continue their perfect start to the year.

U18 NATIONAL TEAM CAMP
Charnwood College’s Holly Wilkes recently returned to Lougborough following her first National Team Camp. The Birmingham native joined the Leicester Riders Academy programme in September, moving away from the West Midlands to pursue development in basketball alongside continuing education at Charnwood College. The Student Riders forward spoke with Riders Magazine following her first time at National Team camp. “England camp was great, I enjoyed every minute of it and really enjoyed getting pushed. The coaches were great aswell and really helped me to be stronger under the basket. The biggest thing I will take away from this experience was playing with the best players my age group in the country and also comparing them to myself to know what I need to work on in the position I play. Charnwood has been fantastic so far! The coaches are so supportive and really try and push you to see how far you can go. I love our individual workouts because they really help me understand what I need to do as a post player and all the different techniques.” Holly Wilkes will remain with the U18 National Team squad as the team enters it’s second camp at the Christmas period ahead of competition next summer. Wilkes returns to Loughborough to continue her season with the Student Riders Women’s Team alongside her studies and basketball development at Charnwood College under Coach Krumesh Patel.
