Known as the sunrise camp, Little Chem Chem lies on the eastern side of the concession and was only opened in autum 2013. This intimate camp offers five elegantly decorated vintage tents, each with a large bedroom with a rocking chair and study desk, a vanity area with dressing room and an en suite bathroom with a shower and flushing toilet. Embracing an ‘Outof-Africa’ atmosphere, each tent also offers a private fire pit with flames that seduce you as the sounds of an African night come to life all around to you.

Riesige Giraffenherden bevölkern das Marschland und wenn die Tarangire ihre magische Transformation von einer dichten bronzenfarbenen Savanne in der Trockenperiode zu einer Oase von sattem Grün während der Regenperiode untergeht, rennen Herden von Elefanten, Gnus, Zebras, Büffel, Gazellen, Impalas und weitere Säugetiere über die Ebene. Besucher können zudem auch die Massaikultur hautnah miterleben. Sie können ein lokales Dorf besuchen oder einen von Massai geführten Spaziergang am Ufer des Manyara Sees erleben.

The concession offers a rich mix of wildlife, culture and history. It is home to over 400 species of birdlife including storks, pelicans and elegant blush-coloured flamingos that hover gracefully above the lake. Large herds of Giraffes populate the marshland and as the Tarangire undergoes a magical transformation from a baked, bronzed savannah during the dry season, to an oasis of lush greenery in the wet season, herds of elephants, wildebeest, zebras, buffalo, impalas, gazelles and other mammals roam the plains. Guests are also able to experience Maasai culture first-hand on a tour to a local village, or on a gentle Maasai-guided walk along the shores of Lake Manyara. â

The next edition of the Opera Festival at the Arena in Verona will start on 20th June and finish on 7th September. For the 2014 Festival 6 different opera titles and 3 special events will be presented, for a total of 54 performances.

The 2014 Festival will open on 20th June at 9 p.m. with a new production of Verdi’s Un ballo in maschera (A Masked Ball). The opera, which has not been performed in the Arena since 1998, will be directed by Pier Luigi Pizzi. For all 7 performances, the Veronese conductor Andrea Battistoni will direct the orchestra. (Further performances of this title: 27 June, 11, 19, 24, 31 July, 8 August).

Georges Bizet’s Carmen which in 2014 celebrates 100 years since its first performance in

the Arena, will open on 21st June at 9 p.m. The director and scenographer will be Franco Zeffirelli, the costume designer Anna Anni. Two conductors will alternate: Hungarian Henrik Nánási (21/06 – 4, 8, 25/07 – 1, 7, 14/08), who will be making his début in the Arena, and Julian Kovatchev (26/06 – 10/07 – 29/08 – 3/09).

Turandot by Giacomo Puccini will go on stage under the skillful direction of Franco Zeffirelli, widely appreciated for his extravagant scenography and ably assisted by Oscar winner for costumes, Emi Wada. Am 22. Juli, wiederum um 22.00 Uhr, ein von allen Ballettbegeisterten erwarteter grandioser Ballettabend in der Arena mit dem Event Roberto Bolle and friends; im Mittelpunkt die Etoile Roberto Bolle zusammen mit internationalen Ballettstars. Julian Kovatchev dirigiert das Orchester der Arena di Verona.

At 10 p.m. on 22nd July an eagerly anticipated evening dedicated to dance: ballet returns to the Arena with the show Roberto Bolle and friends. The protagonist of the evening will be leading dancer Roberto Bolle, joined by international stars of classical dance. The Arena’s Orchestra will be conducted by Julian Kovatchev.

At 10 p.m. on 9th August Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana will be performed under the direction of Andrea Battistoni. At 8.45 p.m. on 15thAugust Puccini’s Madama Butterfly (Madame Butterfly) will make its début for the season. This edition, using the successful set design of Franco Zeffirelli will run for 6 evenings. The orchestra will be conducted by Marco Armiliato. The Tsar’s Bride.

The Bolshoi Theatre On 28 March (17 according to the old style) 1776, Catherine II granted the prosecutor, Prince Pyotr Urusov, the »privilege« of »maintaining« theatre performances of all kinds, including masquerades, balls and other forms of entertainment, for a period of ten years. And it is from this date that Moscow’s Bolshoi Theatre traces its history.

The Bolshoi building, which for many years now has been regarded as one of Moscow’s main sights, was opened on 20 October 1856, on Tsar Alexander II’s coronation day.

On 29 October 2002 the Bolshoi was given a New Stage and it was here it presented its performances during the years the Historic Stage was undergoing massive reconstruction and refurbishment.

The reconstruction project lasted from l July 2005 to 28 October 2011. As a result of this reconstruction, many lost features of the historic building were reinstated and, at the same time, it has joined the ranks of most technically equipped theatre buildings in the world.

The Bolshoi Theatre is a symbol of Russia for all time. It was awarded this honor due to the major contribution it made to the history of the Russian performing arts. This history is ongoing and today Bolshoi Theatre artists continue to contribute to it many bright pages. â

Die Aufführungen fanden zuerst noch in einem Privathaus statt, erst im Jahr 1780 entstand der Theaterbau am heutigen Standort. Das Bauwerk steht auf Holzpfählen in einem ursprünglich sumpfigen Teil des Moskauer Zentrums.

Restaurant »Evropeisky«: Zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts war es ein Kaffeehaus, eines der besten in Moskau, versteht sich. Nach der Restauration des Hotels in den 1980er Jahren wurde es zum Restaurant umgestaltet, ohne den Splendour der Vergangeheit zu verlieren. Längst gilt es wieder als eines der besten Restaurants in Moskau.

Das Theater ist auch die Heimat des BolschoiBalletts. 1805 brannte das Theatergebäude ab und wurde 20 Jahre später durch den Architekten Joseph Bové (auch: Ossip Bowe) neu errichtet. Erst damals erhielt es den Namen Bolschoi-Theater. 1853 zerstörte erneut ein Brand die Inneneinrichtung des Theaters.

Daraufhin stattete der italienische Architekt Alberto Camillo Cavos (1800-1863), Sohn des Komponisten Catterino Cavos (1775–1840), das Gebäude noch kostbarer aus. Bis heute ist bis auf kleinere Veränderungen diese Einrichtung erhalten geblieben. Durch seine außergewöhnliche Architektur im Stil des russischen Klassizismus gehört das Gebäude des Bolschoi-Theaters heute zu den schönsten Theaterbauten der Welt.

Für die meisten Russen ist das Hotel Metropol eine feste Instanz und viele Russen identifizieren sich mit ihm. 1905 eröffnete der imposanteste Jugendstilbau Moskaus. Der Gesamtentwurf stammte vom Engländer William Walcott, dessen Schaffenszeit in Russland stilprägend wurde. Nur wenige Tage nach der Eröffnung nahm die Aufbruchstimmung in Russland ein jähes Ende. 1917 übernahm die Bolschewistische Regierung die Führung und das Metropol wurde zur Residenz der RCEC. Lenin, Chickerin, Sverdlov und Bukharin lebten und arbeiteten im Metropol. In den 1930-er Jahren zog das Metropol dann wieder grosse Künstler wie George Bernard Shaw und Bertolt Brecht an. Die Galerie im ersten Stock ist gleichsam ein Whois-Who der internationalen VIPs aus über 100 Jahren. Man trifft sich in der imposanten Lobby für angeregte Geschäftsbesprechnungen oder entspannt im intimeren Barbereich bei einer original russischen Teezeremonie.

Restaurant »Evropeisky«: At the beginning of the 20th century this was a coffee-hall, one of the best in Moscow. After reconstruction of the hotel at the end of the 1980s the hall recovered its original splendour, acquired the status as one of Moscow’s finest restaurants, cities in the world. The economy is booming, and the mayor has set himself an ambitious target: »Together we will make Moscow the most beautiful city in the world!« Once you arrive in the Russian capital, few places immerse you in its rich history the way the Hotel Metropol does. The historic building commands a regal setting, right opposite the famous Bolshoi Ballet and with a direct line of sight to Red Square.

The new owners have set themselves the goal of once again establishing the Metropol as the

It brought together a kaleidoscopic mix of people who, thanks to culinary delights and new encounters around the ‘long table’, get to enjoy at least a taste of la dolce vita here in Zurich.« Although some of the events are held in the city’s top hotels, the gourmet festival is intended first and foremost to appeal to a wider audience. Less expensive events are therefore organized for the whole family, one example being breakfast at the Swiss National Museum – at a 400 meter-long table. The chefs involved in the festival add up to a veritable who’s who of Zurich’s culinary scene. They include Maurice Marro and Olivier Rais, representing the Baur au Lac and the Rive Gauche respectively. From April 6 to May 11 the visitors could enjoy regional, national and international Haute Cuisine. Each participating Chef from the Ticino was asked to invite a colleague from a Swiss Deluxe Hotel in order to create a special Festival menu for the guests. Lots of happenings and culinary highlights awaited the guests in the Southern part of Switzerland. Visitors had the choice between the Opening Party at the Ristorante La Perla in Lugano with host René Nagy, the Final Party at the Hotel Splendide Royal hosted by Domenico Ruberto, eight glamourous Soirées, a »Déjeuner au Château« at the Castello di Morcote or a Surprise Dinner hosted by Lorenzo Albrici. 25g Venere-Reis weich kochen und mit Eigelb und Parmesan schlagen. Zu Kugeln formen und im 180° heissen Erdnussöl ausbacken.

Das Rindsentrecôte fein hacken und mit Rauchsalz und Olivenöl abschmecken. Mit dem Speck umwickeln. Die Karottencreme auf den Teller geben und mit einem Kamm abstreichen. Die gekochten Linsen mit Zitronenöl marinieren und den Teller mit Salat garnieren.

Was anderswo als Werbefloskel interpretiert werden könnte, bringt das Wesen der Villa Castagnola genau auf den Punkt. Denn die Villa Castagnola wurde 1880 als Wohnsitz der russischen Adelsfamilie Von Ritter am Fusse des Monte Brè direkt am Luganersee erbaut, im Jahr 1885 an eine der ältesten Schweizer Familien verkauft und dann in ein Hotel umgewandelt.

This statement could be interpreted as a pure marketing phrase but in this case it goes back to the history of the hotel. Villa Castagnola was built in 1880 as home to a noble Russian aristocratic family named Von Ritter.

In 1885 the Villa was sold to the Schnyder von Wartensee family. They transformed it into a hotel.

Das Hotel wurde vor über 10 Jahren als Teil der nationalen Expo 2002 errichtet und versetzte Besucher aus der ganzen Welt in Erstaunen.

Das Hotel ist das Resultat aus der Zusammenarbeit zwischen dem Architekten Kurt Hoffmann (Planung und Konstruktion) und den Studenten von der Lausanne Catering School (Dienstleistungskonzept). Die Idee der Stelzenkonstruktion greift auf archäologische Funde zurück: in der Nähe des heutigen Hotels wurden Überreste der ältesten Pfahlbaukonstrutionen der Schweiz gefunden.

Das Interieur harmoniert hervorragend mit dem architektonischen Stil des Hotels. Auch das Restaurant erstrahlt seit Ende März 2014 in neuem Glanz. Es wurde umbenannt zu »La Table de Palafitte« und bietet eine traumhafte Sicht über den See und die Alpen – eingerahmt durch riesige französische Fenster. Franck Paget schwingt das Zepter in der Küche. Er favorisiert lokale und saisonale Marktprodukte.

Auf der Weinkarte findet man lokale aber auch edle internationale Weine. »La Table de Palafitte« ist ein äusserst beliebter Treffpunkt auch bei

Im »Downton Palace« wird diese verbotene Substanz am 5. Juli 2014 in Form eines Absinth Afternoon Teas serviert.

Als Einstimmung auf die Belle Époque findet begleitend eine Modenschau mit überraschenden Einblicken statt. So erfährt der Zuschauer unter anderem, was die Damen von damals unter ihren Reifröcken trugen. Einige der weiblichen Gäste haben zudem die Möglichkeit, sich mit den handgeschneiderten Outfits für das »Downton Palace Historical Dinner« stilecht einzukleiden. Bei der nicht ganz alltäglichen Anprobe erhalten sie die notwendige Assistenz beim Anlegen der Korsage und hilfreiche Tipps, wie sich die jeweilige Dame mit den entsprechenden Accessoires zu bewegen und zu verhalten hat, um schliesslich vollends in das Zeitgefühl der Belle Époque einzutauchen.

In the morning, there will be a »Royal Etiquette Class« at »Downton Palace« with international socialite and royal etiquette expert Liz Brewer for anyone interested in learning what to pay attention to in the rules of style and behaviour at court or any other social gathering. Participants will also find out more from the insider about daily life for members of the Royal household. The crowning glory of this informative morning is a culinary royal performance

from Executive Chef Mauro Taufer: together with his team, he will recreate and serve his guests a Palace menu rich in tradition from 1902. The historic dishes will be presented on original serving plates from the late 1900s, now part of the hotel archive. The lunch will be hosted by Liz Brewer, sharing more etiquette tips and anecdotes from her dazzling career.

Continuing the fun into the afternoon, an Absinthe afternoon tea will be served in ›Le Grand Hall‹. In the late 1900s, Absinthe, the drink of choice amongst artists and bohemians, would have been forbidden in upper social circles and for Palace guests. To evoke the atmosphere of the Belle Époque the tea is also accompanied by a fashion show with entertaining commentary. For several centuries, the estate (Quinta) focused almost entirely on the production of Port wine. Some small quantities of red and white wine were also made but only for family consumption.

Restored by the Agha Khan award-winning Turkish architect Han Tßmertekin, the structure retains original features such as marble staircases and fireplaces, intricate stenciled 5m-high ceilings, ceramictiles and crown moldings. The luxurious modern interiors were designed by Sinan Kafadar of the Metex Group who was inspired by its imposing bank vaults, which also gave rise to the hotel’s name. Auf der Suche nach ultimativen Ferien-Destinationen wird man auf den Philippinen mit Sicherheit fündig. Wir waren zu Besuch in Manila im Makati Shangri-La Hotel, im Mandarin Oriental und im Shangri-La Resort & Spa auf Boracay Island – gefangen von der Schönheit des Lebens am Meer. Reisen heisst doppelt leben.

Vor einigen Jahren erzählte mir ein Pilot von Air Macau, dass es die schönsten Strände der Welt auf den Philippinen gibt und hier findet man tatsächlich einzigartige Buchten, weißen Sand, vom Winde gebeugte Kokospalmen und Sonnenuntergänge, die verzaubern. Es sind vor allem diese Puderzucker-Strände, die die Philippinen mit ihren 7000 Inseln im Pazifischen Ozean zu einem fantastischen Reiseziel machen. Direkt bei der Ankunft am Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila, einem der meist frequentierten Flughäfen der Welt, empfangen uns 30 Grad und ein erfrischender Wind. Die Winterflucht war geglückt.

Wir wohnen im Mandarin Oriental Makati. Das exzellente 5-Sterne Hotel, besticht mit grossartigem Service des warmherzigen Personals.

Man fühlt sich direkt nach der Ankunft als umsorgter VIP. In der Halle präsentiert sich asiatischer Luxus und koloniale Reminiszenzen. Die hervorragende Küche ist berühmt, und auch wir konnten einen kulinarischen Höhepunkt geniessen bei unserem Dinner im chinesischen Restaurant Tin Hau. Das Mandarin Oriental Manila hat 442 Zimmer, darunter 29 stilvoll-elegante Suiten. Die harmonische Einrichtung in den Zimmern bietet eine neutrale und beruhigende Farbpalette. Dunkles Holz dominiert das Ambiente. Die Gäste haben die Wahl zwischen Kingsize-Bett oder zwei Doppelbetten und Raucher- oder Nichtraucher-Zimmern.

Wir genossen die exklusive Mandarin Oriental Club Lounge um dem Jetlag zu entkommen.

If you look for a real special destination you should travel to the Philippines. Going here means much more than just having a good time, in fact it was a spiritual awakening.

Travel means living twice. We spend some quality time at three luxury places in Manila at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel, at the Mandarin Oriental and at the great Shangri-La Resort & Spa on Boracay Island. A few years ago, a pilot of Air Macau and friend of mine told me to go to Philippines if I would like to see the world nicest beaches. Great tip. Indeed he was right, here you will find perfect beaches, white sand, coconut trees, crystal blue water and beautiful lagoons.

Well, when we arrived on Ninoy International Airport in Manila, one of the world biggest airports, we were welcomed with 30 degrees and a nice wind. Obviously it was the right decision to escape the European winter.

First we spend some nights in the Mandarin Oriental. It is located in Makati, the central business district. Entering the lobby the sophisticated city domicile already reveals its elegant

ambience. The Mandarin Oriental is one of the top places of the Manila hotel scene. The Mandarin is the »grand dame« of the 5* star Manila hotels, it is home to 442 elegant rooms including 29 luxury suites. The rooms are not extremely stylish but each guestroom completing the warm staff attention to detail and refined personalized service. It starts in the hotel lobby and ends in every room which is designed to reflect the hotel’s simple yet elegant style. Exclusive in every respect, the harmonious décor features a soothing colour palette. Natural elements can be seen in the polished dark-wood furnishings that include armchairs and beautiful dressers.

We had a great king-size double bed, enjoyed the warm welcome on the Philippines and later on the exclusive Mandarin Club lounge. From our room we had a spectacular view of the pulsating metropolis. After a day in delightful Manila you will find perfect relaxation at the excellent spa, with a wide range of classic, holistic and alternative treatments. Renowned for its outstanding cuisine the hotel features four restaurants, we enjoyed only one the »Tin Hau«. It was a great c c m a g # 2 / 2 01 4

Täglich frisches Obst und Blumen sind selbstverständlich. Auch die Bäder sind ein Erlebnis wegen ihrer Grösse und der edlen Marmorausstattung. Am Morgen erwartet uns ein grossartiges Frühstücksbuffet, mit vielen asiatischen Leckereien bei schönem Blick in den Garten und auf den Hotelpool. Dem Gast gilt höchste Aufmerksamkeit, alles auf 5 Sterne Niveau. Ein grossartiges Flair berauschte unsere Sinne in diesem Grand Hotel, bevor wir dem Ruf der Insel folgten. Boracay liegt eine knappe Flugstunde von Manila entfernt in der Inselgruppe

des Visayas, mit einer ATR 42 der Philippine Airways nach Caticlan ein stürmisches Erlebnis.

Es brachte mir erneut meinen portugiesischen Pilotenfreund in Erinnerung, der einige Jahre mit kleinen Propellermaschinen Fluggäste nach Palawan und Cebu geflogen hatte. Von Caticlan bringen bunte Boote die Reisenden und Locals direkt zum White Beach, einem der schönsten Strände der Welt. Der weiße Sand mit dem türkisschimmernden Meer bietet ein wunderschönes Farbenspiel und ist ein klassisches Postkartenmotiv. Unsere Insel ist nur 8 km lang, sie war lange Zeit ein Geheimntipp. Dies hat sich geändert, Boracay ist aber immer noch ein magischer Ort für Traveller und wurde schon einige Mal zur schönsten Insel der Welt gewählt. Die spektakulären Sonnenuntergänge haben das ihre zur besonderen Magie der Insel beigetragen. Zudem herrscht ein angenehmes Klima mit häufig frischem Wind und angenehmen Temperaturen von 28°C bis 32°C. Der White Beach mit einer Länge von mehr als 4 Kilometern und das warme tropische Meer machen das Baden in Boracay zu einem herrlichen Erlebnis.

Wir wohnen in einem der exklusivsten Luxusresorts der Philippinen, dem etwas abgeschieden gelegenen Shangri-La Boracay Resort & Spa. Die Hotelgäste werden aber von allen erdenklichen Orten abgeholt, um die Luft, Land-und Wassertransfers zu einem unvergleichlichen Erlebnis von Komfort und Exklusivität zu machen.

Nach der Landung auf dem Flughafen wird der Gast von einem Portier empfangen und dann per Van direkt zu einer privaten Lounge eskortiert, wo Erfrischungen warten. Im Resort gibt es verschiedene Zimmerkategorien von Deluxe, Deluxe Seaview, Premier Seaview Familie mit Suite und Meerblick. Die Gäste können die Aussicht auf grüne Landschaftsgärten von einer privaten Veranda aus genießen. Das Hotel liegt in der Nähe von Punta Bunga Beach, es sind nur ein paar Treppen bis zum weißen Sand und kristallklarem Wasser. Ich habe im Shangri La Boracy, zum hauseigenen Schnorchelequipment gegriffen, sofort entdeckte ich hunderte bunte

fine dining dinner at a great illustrious Chinese restaurant and a haven for gourmands. Named after the Chinese goddess of the sea, the restaurant offers innovative dishes of the Orient.

The culinary team, headed by Executive Chinese Chef Hann Furn Chen, presents an abundance of tempting dishes. We had mandarin fish, chicken, soft shell crabs, hot and sour soup and Chinese vegetables. It was yummy and just great. The restaurants stylish look and vibrant coloured table linens, white bone china is extraordinary beautiful. The ambience is continued in the antique brick work and the parquet flooring – and above all, in the exciting asian menus.

We went to bed early, had the next morning an Asian breakfast leave no gourmet wish unfulfilled and traveled to Boracay island. We took a small Philippine Airways aircraft and it made me straight away think of my friend working for Air Macau. He was flying with small aircrafts like ours frequently to Cebu and Caticlan. In brief: Boracay is a »Robinson Crusoe« island, only 8 kilometers long, the »White Beach« on the island was voted several times to be the world best beach. A tropical paradise about an hour's flight from Manila. Boracay is not very big, but it knows how to impress. We checked in at Shangri-La's Boracay Resort & Spa. It is a quiet, luxurious home base for travellers in search of that special c c m a g # 2 / 2 01 4

something. Besides easy access to the island's major attraction like the »White Beach« you will find it here. One thing common to all Shangri-La residences is the desire to bring the guest closer to the country. Each of Shangri-La's restaurants for example is thoughtfully placed to emphasize the hotel's best sea views. That’s what we enjoyed and it was great. The resort provides everything required to pamper you back to life after spending the day exploring the island and ocean. Holistic relaxation is to be found in Shangri-La’s enormous spa features a wide array of slow, careful treatments based on Chinese and native Philippines healing concepts. The luxury of first-class facilities and conveniences goes beyond the resort and is extended to guests on their journey to the Island.

Upon landing at the Caticlan Airport, the guest is at once received by a representative and escorted to the van and directly to a private lounge where refreshments and other welcome amenities await before the private boat taxi starts to the resort. At Shangri-La room categories range from Deluxe, Deluxe Seaview and Privat villa. All guestrooms and suites have a flat-screen television, a DVD player, an iPod dock, a writing desk and complimentary wi-fi. The bathrooms are marble-floored with two sinks, a separate rain shower and bath, and premium toiletries. The territory houses some of the most stylish accommodations eg. the Treehouse villas, sit atop the resort’s highest grounds, a perfect venue to revel in the spectacular view of the sea in the horizon.

Each tree house villa is a two-storey structure measuring, the master’s bedroom is located at the lower floor and it is surrounded by glass windows that provide a panoramic seascape.

The living room is on the upper level with an outdoor deck that has an al fresco Jacuzzi tub and daybeds for lounging and sun bathing. From this private balcony, you have the best views of Boracay’s breathtaking sunset. They blend with the overall architectural form and allow views of the gardens and the ocean. Many stylistic flavors and trades were injected into the design, drawing inspiration from the rich heritage of the

Philippines, from Spanish to tribal traditions. The inspiration for the arrival experience was the sea. The ocean view beyond the lobby evokes grandeur as guests walk into the main entrance.

Design elements such as the chandeliers inspired

by Spanish ironworks flank the lobby, creating a eye-catching feature and reinforcing a strong sense of arrival. We liked the artwork from various regions of the Philippines, eg. a 3-meter- high tribal drums from the South, Gado jars, carved wooden sculptures ad more local trades.

Decorative lamps add to the feel of the resort.

The natural environment was a direct influence on the color scheme and textural qualities of the space. The Lobby Lounge can be found a few steps away from the front desk at the main lobby. Its wide open interiors make it an amazing place to take in the view of the sea. Furthermore culinary experiences of the highest standard are revealed at the restaurants. Wir genossen unser Diner im Sirena, malerisch am Meer gelegen mit allen erdenklichen Meeresspezialitäten wie Schalentiere, Riesengarnelen, Muscheln, Lobster und schönen Fischgerichten.

The seafood was freshest catch from the sea, cooked by the Scottish chefs of the resort. The cuisine leaves no wishes unfilled we tried lobster, octopus and mussels, everything was fine.

Pairing a richer Cabernet Sauvignon wine with a richer fish, or seafood is the way to go, that’s what we did, we had a great evening. The experience was a particular delight when enjoyed with

the smell of the sea in a unique dining area.

We slept perfectly and enjoyed a unbelievable good breakfast in the morning.

During the day the perfect location at which to relax and to do nothing is the stylish pool, which seems to bled in the horizon. Recuperative luxury for body and soul is delivered in the Spa. The elegant Spa offers a first class service, guests can enjoy bathing landscape, nice steam room, sauna, whirlpool and a private garden. Philippine Airways flew us back to Manila. Happy landing and there is a chauffeur, with a freindly smile, talking about the city, this is how it should be by Shanri-La. We enjoyed our VIP pickup.

This is how elegant perfect relaxation can be: the sophisticated Makati Shangri-La with a jawdropping main entrance was waiting for us. It is the jewel of the Manila hotel scene. I have stayed in several Shangri-La hotels and each times it surprises you with something special. Something totally unique, like the nice flowers, Zen energy, exotic surrounding, that’s why the beautifully done Shangri-La may very well win the award for Makati’s most aesthetically stunning interior.

Entering the lobby and lounge you feel great, our paradise for two days. The world-class Asian restaurants and mini-waterfalls on every floor greatly contribute to the overall Zen energy.

This is a oasis in downtown. The door to the big room opens, we felt instantly at home. On the table a welcome card and fresh fruits. The well-

laid-out, spacious, and comfortable guest rooms have domed ceilings and Asian-inspired decor.

Downstairs the Circles Event Café offers an unbelievably breakfast buffet that caters to every nationality. We tried from Sashimi, Indian cuisine, french food everything was fine. At the Lobby Lounge, a pianist tickles the ivories each afternoon. Staff go the extra mile perfect hospitality, personally greeting each guest by name. They are passionate about giving great service. The beautiful hotel has received international accolades for its distinct services and facilities. So the 696 guestrooms and suites provide luxurious, spacious accommodations with a contemporary Asian touch, our room on 21floor offered breathtaking views of the cosmopolitan skyline. For guests who prefer a higher level of personalized attention, the Horizon Club provides exclusive benefits such as a personal concierge and full access to the Horizon Club Lounge on the 24th floor. We enjoyed that very much. Each hotel room is tastefully designed with sleek blondewood paneling and modern elegant accents and inter. The bathroom was large and luxury, my wife enjoyed the L’Occitane amenities.

We tried the »Sage Restaurant and Bar«, the hotels latest dining destination with a tapas bar that serves originally crafted concoctions.

A culinary experience of the highest standard.

We tried all kind of tapas, fish, crabs, later on we went up the winding staircase that leads to the main restaurant which offers modern European cuisine in an intimate setting on the second level.

Do you feel good? Certainly, right at home and just perfect. We enjoyed fantastic tenderloin steaks, many of fresh ingredients and a delicious passion fruit soup for dessert. Later on we had a final gin tonic in the lobby. We were in paradiese.

The grand space of the lobby is the ideal setting for an intimate tête-à-tête, in the afternoons, a 14-piece orchestra plays amidst a backdrop of lush greenery and cascading waterfalls. As fabulous as the hotel is, guests should neverless leave it from time to time the spectacular city, we did that and went to the great Makati »Art in the Park« festival which was very nice. The Philippines are obviously a paradise for lovers of culture and art. It brought us back to James Hilton and his novel »Lost Horizon (Shangri-La)« Shangri-La had been all that I could have wished – certainly more than I have expected«.

It encapsulates the serenity and hospitality for which the brand is renowned worldwide. A fantastic journey in a magical country. See you there one day maybe or better for sure.

An innovative project is the teaming up of the hotel with Europcar, the leader in car rental services in Europe, to offer its guests a cool, environmentally friendly alternative to taxis and public transport. Effective immediately, two electric-powered supermini-sized cars are available for hire at the andel’s Hotel Berlin.

The electric cars are recharged with guaranteed electricity from renewable sources via a remote-controlled charging station from RWE.
