Arthur Brouwer, CEO of Heesen Yachts, with Espen Oeino, Yacht Designer, received two trophies for Galactica Super Nova at the 2016 Monaco Yacht Show Superyacht Award Ceremony.

Awards come in handy on the charter market, too, especially if the prize is in the realm of design and space planning. “The publicity and ability to include the award in the charter brochure certainly helps,” says the owner of 38m Claasen Atalante, which won a WSA in 2016. “We have had a lot of charter interest since she launched.” Charter guests and owners can enjoy other benefits of a well-known yacht, such as preferential treatment in port. The Captain and Owner’s Representative of the Heesen award winning-yacht Satori recalls that when he called a marina and said the name Satori they were more likely to give him a berth to a famous, award-winning boat even if the m arina was "full". Crichton didn’t set out to build an award-winning or iconic yacht. His brief was to produce a vessel that was different and ahead of its time. Renowned Designer Terence Disdale says it’s nearly impossible to strategise building an award-winning yacht as neither client nor designer can entirely predict what competition they face in their size category, once the yacht launched. But that hasn’t stopped some owners, says Foggia: “I’ve had clients where one goal was to build an award-winning yacht – this happened with Odessa.” The 48m Christensen Odessa won the 2010 ShowBoats Design Award for 'Best I nterior

Duker has been a fan of the Monaco Yacht Show for a great many years and attending year after year has been an essential step at every stage of the next stage in Duker’s yacht-owning journey from concept, to build. It was a voyage that saw her scoop the 2016 Monaco Yacht Show Interior Design Award. He told us how it came about that he decided to build Sybaris and in doing so he highlighted the important part the show played while he did so. “It was on the trips in Shanakee sailing with (his son) West, that the idea to own a really big boat began to take shape,” he told us. “West and I would sit in the cockpit in the

MONACO YACHT SHOW 2017 A made-to-measure superyachting experience

This

September, meet the world superyachting

community for four days on the quays of the Port Hercules to visit yachts, discover the latest market trends and promote business activity and public relations within the Show and in Monaco's top hotels and venues.

Now in its 27th year, the Monaco Yacht Show has become the world’s leading superyacht event thanks to the quality of the exhibition itself and the 600 participating. By April 2017, the MYS had registered 87% of exhibiting companies that return each year (NB: a record not matched since 2008). From 125 vessels exhibited in Port Hercules, approximately forty superyachts, delivered in 2017, have been registered and will make their thrilling debut in Monaco. The willingness of the exhibiting companies to display their expertise at the MYS is matched by the efforts made by the organising team. Over the last four years, the MYS organising team has developed strategies to attract and initiate new attendees from around the globe into the superyacht industry.

REGATTA Getting off to a good start. This is precisely the purpose of this groundbreaking regatta chronograph – with a patent to prove it – equipped with a sweep countdown timer that can be set from 1 to 10 minutes. Victory comes down to those crucial minutes before the starting gun goes off while maneuvering to cross starting line with o ptimal positioning and perfect timing. Following the countdown, the bi-directional seconds’ hand starts moving in a clockwise direction and begins timing the race. Clear, intuitive and accurate functionality from Ulysse Nardin, with the support of Artemis Racing, the company’s official partner for the 35th America’s Cup. With its distinctive appearance, the Regatta timepiece recalls the nautical roots of the company.

MARINE TOURBILLON In one magnificent timekeeping instrument, the Marine Tourbillon unites the three fundamentals so essential to Ulysse Nardin’s identity: in-house production, technical avant-garde and rare artistry. Produced in-house at Le Locle, Switzerland, the self-winding UN128 caliber harnesses the properties of silicium technology, with a 60-hour power reserve and a magnificent flying tourbillon. The tourbillon is the central focus of this highly desirable timepiece and celebrates the watchmaker’s continued pursuit of the technical cutting-edge. And in this particular high-precision timepiece, the cage, wheels, screws and hairspring of the flying tourbillon are produced entirely in-house by Ulysse Nardin. The Marine Tourbillon combines functionality with enduring style. At its heart, a Grand Feu white enamel dial, made in-house by Ulysse Nardin enamel specialists Donzé Cadrans. Its lovely pale milky colour is a direct result of the process of this challenging art.

THE PRINCE ALBERT II OF MONACO FOUNDATION SUPPORTS

MARINE PROTECTION AREAS T

here is a tenuous link between the world of Yachting and the Marine

Protected Areas (MPAs). The latter represent an effective approach to nature conservation. They are refuges for marine fauna and flora and also a fundamental tool helping to preserve biodiversity and promoting the resilience of marine ecosystems. Yacht owners are now fully aware of the need to preserve the marine environment and a fruitful collaboration is under way. Moreover during the Ocean Conference held in New York from June 5 to 9, 2017, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres quoted a study recently published in the Proceedings of the American Academy of Sciences showing that the existence of more protected areas in the oceans would be an important factor in the fight against climate change.

Guest, Crew, Suppliers and Service providers can all be managed in a safe and secure method of digital information gathering. Fingerprint and a full biography can easily be categorized in the palm of your hand when committing to Safran Biometrics.

VFlat Ku/Ka Dual-Band Phased Array - So now, are you paying attention? Skytech combines client essentials for higher speed and larger area of coverage, through an approach that may prove to be another big step in advancing the Superyacht communications and tracking platform. Essentially speaking, Skyteck’s Dual-Band Phased Array has both Ku and Ka VSAT bands effectively integrated into a single high-performance antenna.

The Raymarine Axiom MFD products feature lifelike imagery via Raymarine’s exclusive RealVision 3D for superior underwater fish and structure identification. The new rugged, all-glass touch screens are available in 7-, 9-, and 12.1-inch display sizes and come pre-installed with Raymarine’s new LightHouse 3 operating system. Combined with Axiom’s fast quad-core processor, LightHouse 3 delivers an intuitive and powerful navigation experience through a redesigned interface that is quick to learn and easy to personalize.

Safran will continue committing to new sensory solutions as information gathering and processing technologies are becoming widely embedded in every area of the Super yacht market. The advanced developments foreseen in sensory technologies may very well surpass the boom of microprocessors. • STAND QL2 • safran-electronics-defense.com

raymarine.com

With a very low profile, competitive tracking capabilities and high durability, the Skytech high-performance antenna can be specified as the perfect solution to high-speed light-weight craft. With an invisible antenna designers and builders can now replace bulky domes with a more visually streamlined solution. Skytech’s phased array technologies also combine a single chassis mount into two individually separated, yet highly maneuverable mechanical panels. For all elevation angle and latitude, the Skytech’s phased array panels are ready for current as well as future high throughput KU/KA-bands. In addition, a smart screen application will manage all security, coverage and network preferences and features. • STAND QL10 • skytech-research.com
