An Introduction to Waterberg Wave Bringing Community Radio to the Region
Four Years Ago Having A Locally Run Radio Station In The Town Of Vaalwater Supporting The Township Of Leseding Was A Big Vision We always knew this was a good thing to do and thanks to a Special Event Broadcasting license that allowed us to do some internal broadcasting trials and a number of Community Consultation Meetings we were able to prove just how popular this would be. For four weeks the Waterberg Waves station broadcast to an excited audience. The streets were full of people holding the phones to their ears listening to music and local news. Support was unanimous. Now we have been granted our license, we have permission to operate our station and to develop it so that it serves everyone in our community. That means we will be concentrating on programmes where we can learn about the Waterberg, its people, conservation and nature.
All of our work at WWS shares some common and important themes, one of them being the empowerment of the people in our community.
We work primarily with people affected in some way by HIV/AIDs and other life threatening conditions. The services that we deliver are dedicated to giving people opportunities to engage, to develop and to live more responsible and rewarding lives.
Waterberg Wave Is Going To Play A Critical Role In Our Work Our Vision is to create a voice for healthy communities through edutainment. Our Mission is to serve the community by providing a high quality and trusted community radio station that informs, educates and entertains. Radio in a small rural community is a lifeline. We have big plans for our station. It will inform, entertain and unite people. It will create a platform of positive and constructive interaction between communities and government. And it will create opportunities that would have been hard to imagine a few years ago. Through this project a team of young people will gain precious skills, skills that will serve them way beyond this project. Our team is already highly talented, over the years they have been learning the art of broadcasting and combining that with their natural talents and love of music.
The result is authentic local content – music created by this team, produced in their own makeshift studio and programmes that link up to community events and that are relevant to local people.
We will be Broadcasting on 92.8FM as soon as we complete the final infrastructure setup – covering a number of local municipalities in the Waterberg:
