This is a common condition in which a healthy baby displays symptoms of distress through crying. Colic is linked to the buildup of gas from the baby swallowing too much air or having sensitivities to certain foods. Colic typically starts within a few weeks after birth and ends when the baby is 3-4 months old. To reduce colic, try feeding with small amounts of hypoallergenic formula milk or breast milk every 2-3 hours. Sit your baby up whilst feeding and frequently burp your child. A gentle tummy massage or warm bath provides relief as well. Do check with your pharmacist on the use of colic drops.
