LA TRINIDAD CELEBRATES STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL

La Trinidad, Benguet - The much-awaited Strawberry Festival was celebrated on March 6 -31, 2023, for this year’s celebration with the theme, “A Festival for recovery: Building a Brighter Future from Adversities.”

Strawberry Festival has made a comeback after three years of hiatus as caused by the pandemic.

This year’s celebration featured multiple events for the community to showcase talents, skills, local products, and the highlight of the festival – the strawberries. The theme is all about reviving the economy of the municipality from the lockdowns caused by the Coronavirus.

“Daytoy apo ti first time after the pandemic that we would celebrate the Strawberry

Festival and daytuy metlang iti kasla nga aramiden tayu so that we could now open up the economy in the Municipality of La Trinidad. So in some way nga we are celebrating this special Strawberry Festival because for the last three years, we don’t have any activities,” said Roderick Awingan, La Trinidad Vice Mayor.

This year marks a special celebration for Strawberry Festival’s revival.

“We came from a threeyear pandemic. From zero tourists, zero activities. It’s very

unique because we are trying to start again. Restart tourism, restart economy, sung, basically this is a very unique activity which is the largest activity in the municipality of La Trinidad,” added Awingan

Chinese Snowhite Variety

This year is also the first year where the ‘Chinese Snow White’ variety of strawberry is featured in the festival.

The Baguio Anti-Squatting and Illegal Structures (BASIS) movement demolished houses in Teachers Camp on April 9th to inspect and stop unauthorized constructions. BASIS aims to combat illegal structures in the area and ensure compliance with local regulations.

The said movement was started when personnel of Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) Station 3 discovered unauthorized buildings while on foot patrol at the Forbes Forest Reservation along South Drive Road.

On March 3rd, La Trinidad Mayor Benjamin

Magalong, ordered an enhanced campaign against ongoing illegal structures. The core group named BASIS was also organized to undertake inspections and stop structural developments not covered by necessary permits.

BSU signs partnership with Rex Education

Benguet State University (BSU) has partnered with Rex Education to bring Outcome-Based Education to its programs. The five-year agreement was signed by BSU President Felipe Comila, CTE dean Dr. Divina Yango, and VPAA Mr. Samuel Poliden at a ceremony held at the DSG Hall on April 4, 2023.

The partnership aims to publish instructional books and improve the quality of education.

On Outcome-Based Education

Benguet State University and Rex Education is the first partnership the

University did with regard to Outcome-based Education.
