Improvement It seems the design focus more on the horizontal expansion rather the vertical establishment. In my point of view, as a landmark, it is also important to let the travellers being informed of far away. In addition, the presentation will be better if isometric drawing can be presented to link the overall form with the functions, as it is quite difficult to point out which space in section belongs to which part in the plan.

Critique Strengths The design shows a monumental and clear gesture pointing to the topic of globalization. The treatment of exaggarated scale and symmetric purism shows the designer‘s understanding of “landmark” in a logical way, showing a sense of surrealism at the same time. The metaphor of the globe has a tight relationship with the inner functions, for example, in the upper part of the globe an “ante-room” in daytime through the North Polar ice-cap, with refreshment facilitates and with access to and from a small viewing platform “at the North Pole“. In the vertical shaft in and from the unit described in 2 above, an elevator and stair providing means of access to the interior of the globe and the “cute-room“ and serving the base unit as required, together with the necessary services. Weaknesses The consideration of the landscape is ignored. The whole design looks like a government sculpture belongs to the post-Soviet states rather than Melbourne at present.
Improvement The designer can refer to Cenotaph for Newton, focusing more on an immutable and totalizing architecture, neoclassicism and romanticism.

Description The whole design is very simple, easy-to-built plastic architecture. When comparing to Eiffel Tower, the building shows nothing of the machine, shows nothing of construction. The building itself is its own destiny, it is even without meaning. It is an electrical clock, if Eiffel Tower is a mechanical clock.
Critique Strengths The design seems too casual, even meaningless to the designer him/herself. But maybe through this way, the design talking about something beyond, linking to philosophy, the state and destiny of being. Weaknesses The gesture is simple but pessimistic. It is never shows any evidence of creativeness or innovation, but an emptiness of thinking. Although the falling building as a bridge is not too bad somehow. The consideration of the landscape and the context of Melbourne City is totally ignored.
Improvement The best solution is to redesign as the metaphor of the buildings is pessimistic. It is suitable for an experimental architecture but not a landmark.
